Violet | 7 comments This month I've read Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch, The Book of Five Rings, The Final Empire and The Well of Ascension.
I really want to continue with the third book in Mistborn, but I needed a change so I'm currently reading The Three-Body Problem.

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 275 comments I like the Three-Body Problem. 🙂

Andrew Hall (andrew_in_space) | 1 comments I've been reading Annihilation and Skyward, and I'll be following that up with a cheeky bit of The Gormenghast Trilogy: Titus Groan/Gormenghast/Titus Alone I reckon.

This far I've been truly enjoying it.

NekroRider | 497 comments Finished The Great King today, Book 4 in Christian Cameron's Long War historical fiction series on the Greco-Persian Wars. I rated it 4/5 stars. My favourite part was by far the fist 1/3 of the book and especially when they're at the Olympics with all the politicking. What detracted somewhat from this one was a similar issue as with the last 1/4 of Poseidon's Spear, namely feeling rushed. A lot of different events were packed into this book and felt not enough pages spent on them to flesh them out. Still had a lot of fun with it though.

Am now on Book 5, Salamis

Andrea | 3548 comments Of my dead tree books, finished The City of Lost Souls, still not a big fan of the main characters but I'm liking the rest of the characters and their stories that are starting to evolve. One more book to finish that series.

On my eReader finished The Ghosts of Tristan Basin which completes the Powder Mage novellas and completes that series. There is of course the new trilogy and related novellas but still waiting for the third novel to come out in paperback first before getting into that. Love this series though! Great characters, worldbuilding and very creative idea with the whole powder mage thing.

My new dead tree book will be Triplicity by Thomas M. Disch as it was a book that the library was giving away free, a discard from their bookfair they were collecting for, so will fill my "free" BINGO slot. I know nothing at all about this author nor the three books included in this book, will see how it goes!

And on my eReader, my next book will be The Royal Book of Oz by Ruth Plumly Thompson. I had intended to read other things before coming back to Oz but was curious to see what a different author would do in Baum's world after having read all of his novels.

Tony Calder (tcsydney) | 1069 comments I finished the graphic novel Camelot 3000. The artwork is absolutely gorgeous and it's a nice mix of Arthurian mythology and sci-fi, although it needed to be longer to tell the story it wanted to - the ending was somewhat rushed.

Pierre Hofmann | 207 comments I finished Borders of Infinity and liked it a lot. Continuing with the saga, I shall start reading Brothers in Arms later today.

Andrea | 3548 comments Finished the first book in the Triplicity omnibus - Echo Round His Bones. That one really made your head work, keeping track of the levels of reality...I will never look at a transporter in Star Trek the same way again (though the premise is different but imagine if that is what happens...)

message 61: by [deleted user] (new)

Empress of Forever by Max Gladstone I finished Empress of Forever, which is totally wacko, so different from Max Gladstone's incredible 5-novel Craft Sequence that it's hard to believe it's the same author.

Tony Calder (tcsydney) | 1069 comments I took a break from SFF to read Tyrant: Dividing America, a book that postulates what might happen if Trump (in the book it's President Donald E Vil) loses the election and refuses to accept the result. An interesting area to explore but the book is poorly written, both from a wordcraft point-of-view and from a suspension of disbelief point-of-view.

Michael (mformichelli) | 3 comments Finally got around to reading Old Man's War. Enjoyed it, but not as much as I was expecting from the reviews. I'll definitely read the second at some point soon, though.
Currently reading Leviathan Wakes finally after watching the first season or so of the Expanse.

Sounds like one for my to-read list!

message 66: by Michael (new)

Michael (fisher_of_men) "Helmet For My Pillow" by Robert Lechie.

Tony Calder (tcsydney) | 1069 comments The announcement that the long-awaited Foundation series how has an air date of 2021 has inspired me to continue my reread of Asimov's future history. Having read the robot short stories, I have now started The Caves of Steel

Have to admit while I liked that first book, the second book in the Triplicity omnibus was not for me - The Genocides is a post-apocalyptic tale where giant trees are seeded from space and take over the world leaving only a handful of ruthless mean people alive. I guess those are the kind of people that survive these kinds of events but doesn't mean I like reading about them and their cruelties that go beyond the need to survive. Hopefully the third book will be good.

Yeah, I was only planning to read the first one, myself. Are they actually related in some way?

Other than being the same author, it's just an omnibus of three of his standalone books. Starting The Puppies of Terra today. This one seems pretty depressing too, but also an interesting concept, what if aliens came to earth and decided we made good pets?

message 72: by Emily (new)

Emily | 5 comments Currently finishing the Greatcoats series by Sebastian De Castell - on Tyrant's Throne now about 20% of the way through. Its been pretty good so far.

message 73: by NekroRider (new)

NekroRider | 497 comments I finished Salamis (Book 5 of Long War series) by Christian Cameron and rated 4/5 stars. Highly recommend this series to any military historical fiction fans.

Before I get into the 6th book, though, think I want to switch gears a little. Planning to start Dead Water by Ann Cleeves which is one of the Shetland mysteries.

message 74: by Andrea (new)

Andrea | 3548 comments Finished Triplicity (by reading the the third book Puppies of Terra in one day). It was the one that had the most plot to it, so that kept my interest. And the concept was interesting too. I wouldn't say I really enjoyed it, there was a kind of post-apocalyptic flavour to parts of it, but I probably enjoyed it the most out of the three though the first one, Echo Round His Bones made my brain work more. Genocides was just not my thing, ok premise but no likeable characters.

Now on to something requiring less brain power, I'm going to complete The Mortal Instruments series with City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare

message 75: by Kivrin (new)

Kivrin | 542 comments Reread Doomsday Book for the umpteenth time. Seemed a perfect fit for the world we live in today. I actually enjoyed the "modern" portions more this time around. Still one of my favorite all-time reads.

Next I'm starting Devolution: A Firsthand Account of the Rainier Sasquatch Massacre

Audrey (niceyackerman) | 618 comments Chris wrote: "I'm reading The Dagger and the Coin series, on book 3 of 5 so far. Really enjoying it."

I think that's on my list.

I finished Promise of Blood, finally. Imager went back to the library, but I will get it back. I'm also listening to Brief Cases, which will then make me all caught up in the Dresden Files.

message 77: by Scott (new)

Scott Neumann (scottneumann) | 7 comments Currently reading Spine of the Dragon and really enjoying it. I'm also reading From the Dust Returned, Where The Sun Goes to Die, and The Dragon's Path. I tend to read multiple books at once, usually a couple of short story compilations and a couple of novels.
