Hazel (hazelfizz) | 8 comments The book begins with a lone female forest botanist in a cabin/lab, researching tree growth somehow. She meditates under a tree. I learned the genus names for Oak and Maple from this book, so either she was making labels or the words were in an illustrated endpaper. Her meditation ends up communing with a Green Man, and I think that's where her story ends, although it may be she's impregnated here, possibly raising a small boy. His name is Robin.

The rest of the book is set some amount of time later. Robin is a teenager, though mostly off screen, and The Forest and/or foliage generally has gone into overdrive. Cities are getting overgrown while you watch, and Civilization is in danger? Something about cro-genetics of plants, so they are artificially evolving. The spoiler is that it's Robin's grief that his mom's died?

Main character is a teen/new-adult, I think she's raised on a wind farm, I remember a tall modern windmill. Maybe she moves away in the fight against the forest, and anyway she eventually meets Robin and solves the problem.
