A Song of Ice and Fire - Book 1 A Game of Thrones
OH I love this book! This is a great series. I'm current on book 4, A Feast for Crows. My favorite book in the series is A Storm of Swords.Yay!
~~Poulomi Nymphadora Tonk$~~ wrote: "Someone please employ me... I want this so bad!!!! *wails*"its just 300 bucks on amazon.;) or you can also try tuebl for ebooks.:P
I want the whole set, Manju!!! Buying one after the other is a loss, everyone says. But I think I got no choice. :|Naaaa... no ebooks for something as good as this! :D :D
I got the five book set for a steal, when I purchased it. Try Flipkart, you might get an offer for the entire set.
Awesome! I have completed this whole series. [5 novels, 2 novellas, 1 companion book] and this is my favourite Fantasy series. I consider myself one of the biggest fan and an expert on this series :PAdditionally, I have also met George Martin and discussed his life, my life, his characters' life, his characters' death, his death etc :P

Plz tell us about your meeting with Martin. :D
have already read it. Can join in the discussion, at least for the incidents I remember. Now I am halfway through book 2.
Most definitely Smitha!! :) :) In fact, I insist that you join these discussions and don't use memory as an excuse not to! :P :P
Do join in Yesashwini and Natalia. Am sure someone will always be there to discuss the book at any point in time. :)@Ishi - read it after the exams. Am sure we will still be getting people who will start reading later this year (ahem.. most probably me, just don't tell my buddy:P) so don't worry! :)

I was too excited to ask him anything specific so I just spoke to him about general stuff. Surprisingly he wanted to know more about me and how I discovered this series, which was cool. But there was a highlight; I somehow found the guts to ask him something that bugs me(and each and every fan of this series, I sure):
Me: Why do you kill everyone?!?
GM: Valar Morghulis
Me: Valar Dohaeris
GM: That answers your question!
Ok, you won’t understand the above exchange until you are halfway past A Storm of Swords; but once you find what that means you’ll realise that his reply was awesome!

I saw that.;)
Vow! I'll be following this thread. Ive read only the first book of the series and it is my most fav book ever since I have started reading books. Period :))
Abhay wrote: "Hahah! Epic Reply! Where had you met him? Btw we can mention the English translations of those I guess, they won't give away any plot details.. Choice is urs :P"
It was during a promotional event for Season 2 of Game of Thrones.
And yes we could tell them the english translation which does not spoil anything but lets just let the 1st time readers discover everything by themselves; that's where the fun lies :P
Abhay wrote: "@Gordon - Yeah True. And I meant which place / city :)"Oh! that was in Santa Fe, his hometown. Literally had to ditch my parents for a day (was on holiday with them). :P

Hajarath Prasad wrote: "Anna -_- I stand on my word even when I can't stand on floor :/"LolxD
I will read it if I manage to get a physical copy :D :P
I love the direwolves in the book. Imagine if we could get pets like that! Has anyone else apart from Manju started reading yet?
Difficult in cities and towns. Imagine them attacking others, and we constantly paying re compensation.
PSmith wrote: "Difficult in cities and towns. Imagine them attacking others, and we constantly paying re compensation."Who is going to ask money from a guy who owns a vicious direwolf? :D
who is your favourite character?
My favourite - Tyrion. I feel pity for Sansa. Sort of overshadowed by her younger sister and having to bear the brunt of a slightly cowardly nature.
PSmith wrote: "My favourite - Tyrion. I feel pity for Sansa. Sort of overshadowed by her younger sister and having to bear the brunt of a slightly cowardly nature."She's annoying. Things happen to her because she is too lost in her own dream world.
I love many characters in this book. Tyrion, Ned, Arya, Jon
And why shouldn't a person be lost in dream world, especially if it is safer and better than the real world one is living in?Some are born with courage, some have to strive and be courageous. I have a nagging doubt that I may have more of Sansa in me than of Arya and the rest of the stalwarts. Hence I sympathise with her. :P
Lannisters are a glamorous lot, with lots of rotten apples among them. Daenerys -I initially liked her, but later somehow felt some repulsion. But can't say why...nothing specific, but she seems to be degrading from civilization to savagery.
I love the direwolves. Specially Ghost. Though end of Lady was sad.Well I just finished Tyrion's part in Lannistor and Starks battle.
PSmith wrote: "My favourite - Tyrion. I feel pity for Sansa. Sort of overshadowed by her younger sister and having to bear the brunt of a slightly cowardly nature."I don't like Sansa. She is so stupid, always dreaming.
PSmith wrote: "@Manju, no one likes. I neither dislike, nor like her . But I think I can understand her mindset."I too can understand her. She believed in fairy tales. She believed that she is to marry Joff and her world start revolving around it.
Martin has written her character that way but still I have noo sympathy for her.
