I am right about the same place you are, and feel the same way!

Anyone feel like Jamie and Claire have aged in this book?
How old do you think they are in Echo?
I'm guessing about 52 for Jamie and 57 for Claire?

Hey, did anyone catch the reference that Diana added to Echo about the dauchsund? I thought that appropriate with her owning two.

There will be an 8th book. But, it will probably be several years down the road. Plenty of time to reread the other seven books!

yes I am loving Ian in Echo.

Um, yes, Diana is something of a sadist, isn't she? There were a lot of unresolved events in the last 50 pages!! Moreso than any of the other books. This is definitely not the last book. I'd guess her publishers will take as many as she is willing to write, given her popularity.

You know, I wouldn't mind if there were five more books after this. However, these books are such an emotional roller coaster that they take their toll after a while. It's emotionally exhausting but I don't really mind. How long will it take the next book to come out? Does anyone know?

ANY AMOUNT OF TIME IS TO LONG FOR ME!

And where is Roger at the end?
Jaime and Claire will certainly work things out. If he could forgive her for the king when he was alive, he can surely forgive her for lord john when she thought he was dead.
I like the idea of Ian falling in love with a healer too.

And where is Roger at the end?
Jaime and Claire will ce..."
(Spoiler alert!)
There wasn't any real conclusion with the situation in the future. That particular sub-plot line was left unfinished, and is going to continue with it into the next book most likely.
The last time we saw Roger he was with William Buccleigh and I'm pretty sure they were on their way back to the past where they mistakenly thought Rob had taken Jemmy. But he was actually still in the future, locked in the same place where Brianna was locked when her male co-workers played that trick on her. She left it off where Jemmy was trying to get out because he remembers what Brianna told him about her own escape.

To be honest, I'm glad that part only lasted 20 pages because i seriously could not take anymore of what was happening with Claire. It was kind of disturbing and heart-breaking, so i'm glad she didn't give us more detail on that particular event.

And then I wouldn't be sitting here...finished the book....and wondering who in the name of all that is holy ARE these people? All these references to Lord John's past! I hate not knowing, and therefore not getting the full effect of shock when characters show up. Wish she would have warned us, honestly.
Och...weel, dinna fash meself, I s'pose. I'll just have to read them now, and then re-read echo. Won't have much else to do for the next 4 years...

I agree LJG has not been a fav of mine. And I have not read his books. Part of the reason why is that apart from his relationship with Jamie I don't really feel like I know him.

I might have taken it differently if she had slipped him in a bit later in the novel, but throwing him out there from the start was a bit of shock.

Jamie would NEVER do that! But it really isn't up to him would DG do that?

So, do we think Fergus is related to Claire after Percy's revelations? (I'm thinking I'll need to read the Lord John books to really figure out what all his stuff was about...Can anyone who has read them confirm that they make his story line more clear?)

I was dumbfounded at the way the lives of Roger, Jem, and Brianna were just left hanging in what seems to me a very abrupt and inartistic way. At first, I was positive I had purchased a defective book - one with several chapters missing. At the end of D.G.'s previous books there were often story lines that were obviously 'to be continued', but these were crafted gracefully, and did not leave the reader (at least not this reader) with the feeling of having been rudely ripped off. For half of the book, I carried the intense anticipation of discovering what what to happen with the 'modern time' Lallybroch family.
As perfect as I found every other book in the Outlander series, it feels almost sacreligious to criticize the author, but it seems like she might have felt the pressure of how long it was taking the finish the darn thing, and told out the last few chapters as fast as she could, (compressing by at least half what would have been wonderful reading, and then, at the last minute, also decided to heck with Roger and Jem, they can wait till the next book.
Well, at least I have vented.

I was thinking the same thing about Fergus! He's really a Beauchamp.

So, do we think Fergus is r..."
No, Beauchamp is Percy's assumed name. He was Percy Wainright in LJ and the Brotherhood of the Blade. (That LJ book would probably be the most helpful to read for Echo) I don't think Beauchamp is the name of the family that is claiming Fergus, either. His father is supposed to be the Comte St. Germain; remember the one that assaulted Claire and Mary in DIA? I suppose Diana might connect them to Claire somehow; her books certainly encompass a small, small world. I personally thought Jack Randall's adopted son would play a larger part in Echo.

I too am a little frustrated that she didn't tie things up nicely, but where is the fun in that? Now we have a lot of time to speculate about where all this will go.
I was really pleased that the book moved along so well. I felt in a couple of the other books that they moved so slowly. There seemed to be just the right amount of story and detail this time.

First of all I just can't believe Claire leaving Jamie in Scottland, they never have left each other willingly since she came back.
Second, I can maybe see why she had to marry LJ, but to sleep with him. Made me sick to my stomach! Just too sad.
Third, leaving Jamie and Claire like that was terrible. I know they will work it out, but...
And, to leave us hanging so with regards to Jem and Roger. I just can't stand it!
I truly hope Diana's going to get the 8th book written really soon. Like in a year, there is just too much left hanging to make us wait 3 or more years!

Ahhhhh....I totally forgot about that! I remember reading along and coming
to that and saying huh? Re-reading....finally moving on, like a first
grader with a big word! Thinking maybe it will make sense later?
Glad you brought that up.
