October 2009 Reading Challenge
I have GOT to stop finding new series and reading them in order (meaning you guys need to stop with the recommendations already--NOT) I'm starting to burn out on the House of Night series. And I can't put off reading them, because I only have til the 14th before they have to go back. Someone else has them on reserve, so I can't renew them. Ah well, that's still 3 whole days off. I'm down to the last 2. And I DID take yesterday and most of today off and read 2 other books. :o) Plus I have like 8 programs recorded on the TiVO to watch. I lose control of the TV Thursday night, Friday, Sat. and Sun to the hubby. So I tape my programs and watch them after he goes to bed or during the day Mon-Thurs.

Carpe Corpus is book 6 in the YA Morganville Vampire series by Rachel Caine. It was a fun fast-paced read. This series of books usually end in a frustrating cliff hanger, so it's best to have the next book in the series handy. Will be looking forward to reading book 7 Fade Out when it comes out in Nov.
Also finished City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare today. It is book 2 in the Mortal Instruments series. There were some surprises in this book, it is an action packed read with vampires, warlocks, faeries, werewolves, shadow hunters, and tragic love lives. I will be checking out the next book this month.

I actually order them from the library--unless I just can't wait for a copy to become available. We have an awesome library system here--there are about 15 libraries in the area. I go on line and order what I want and if my library doesn't have it, they have a courier transport the books from another library to the library closest to my house.
So, to answer your question, I don't have copies to swap or I would be happy to. The Mona Lisa series is definitely worth reading!

Kelly--I saw your post to Looloo about Lucinda Darkly and I loved that series too--although there are only 2 so far. You may already be aware of this, but it is a spinoff of the Mona Lisa series. The Lucinda series references things that happen in the Mona Lisa books and it may spoil the first 3 books for you. Just thought I would let you know.

5. Black - Lover Avenged
6. Yellow - Kiss of Midnight
7. Purple - Slave to Sensation
8. Pink - Lover Awakened**** 10/12 - what can I say? Loving this series. This was the most intense of the books so far. Love Z's character although I thought his transformation was long coming, and then when it occurred it happened too quickly. Can't wait to read the continuing novella, but will wait til I finish the rest of the series first. Better writing, better book, but I think I'm still a Wrath & Beth fan. Some interesting plot developments I didn't see coming and look forward to the next installment.

***It was a good read. It wasn't easy to get into though.
In this first book of the Kate Daniels series we are introduced to a near future where the world (we get to see Atlanta) alternates between 'tech' and 'magic'. The authors' world is original and quite different from what we're used to (vampires are not sexy!). Despite elaborate descriptions of the surroundings, the world itself is hard to understand in the beginning. I couldn't keep up with it all: the Guild, the Order, the People, the Pack, what?!?!
The heroine is likeable, and eventhough we don't really get to know her as readers, she does show an occasional vulnerable side.
On other boards the names Kate&Curran have been frequently named as being a 'hot couple'. Their relationship (if we can call it that) apparently slowly evolves throughout the series. Just like I love it. Slow but deliberate tension :)
The book could have used better editing though. There were some minor and some major continuity mistakes.

And loving it. I love Karl Marsten. Who knew the sneaky bastard could have such a soft side?
I totally agree with you Mel. The first time I tried to read Magic Bites, I found the world so confusing I put the book down and didn't go back to it for a few weeks. Once I got a handle on it all though, I was completely sucked in. It's now one of my favorite series and Magic Strikes is my favorite new release of the year so far. =)
It was a major switch from Fantasy Lover, where the most obvious stuff are explained but there is little to no world building and descriptions of surroundings, to Magic Bites where the totally new world order gets explained little bit by little bit and every entered room, street or building gets described in every detail. Only like 60 pages in the book did we get to read more dialogues. But it did grab me after a certain point.I've read reviews of Magic Strikes and people have been raving about it. Apparently it's the best in the series and people can't wait for the 4th one to come out. And you too! And we have very similair taste so I know I'm going to like it too :) So I'm glad I found a new series to get hooked on :)

It seems with a lot of authors who write series that it takes to book 3-4 to really hit their stride. When I think of most series I've read and recommend I usually say hang with the first couple of books cause it gets really good at book 3 or 4. It's not always the case but with a lot, at least at lot of UF/PNR series.
I totally agree. It's the same with my favorite series: the Cassie Palmer series by Karen Chance. The first book wasn't that great, the second got much better but the last two were just wonderful. It's hard though: not to stop reading the series if the first book didn't turn out to be all that appealing...
8 of 9. Finished book 3 (Seduced by Moonlight) in the Meredith Gentry series. The first half had me wondering if anything was going to happen. Didn't seem to advance the plot. However, once they arrived back at the Unseelie court, it piqued my interest. Started book 4 at 2am last night. Couldn't help it ;)1.

I felt that she over explained a lot and reiterated and reiterated everything--IMO I thought the series could have been condensed. At the end of the day, I wanted to know what was gonna happen so I continued to read despite my irritation with the redundancy.

I'm new to GoodReads and just joined the group. This challenge is amazing. I'll have to see if I can dig up some books for this challenge.
Well, I'm only at 7 books down--but I've read 5 books from outside of the challenge. Things that I have GOT to get read and back to the library. Sigh, the one thing that computers are really GOOD at is sending out "form" letters and reminders. "Dear Ann, just a friendly reminder that you have books due back soon. Please hurry and finish them." "Dear Ann, just a reminder that XX is due back in 2 days, and that YY is due back in 4 days. You might want to think about hurrying up and finishing them." Etc. etc. etc.
9/9 done I FINISHED THE CHALLENGE!!!I am changing a couple of things on my list as I want to read a couple of books I got from the library before they are due to go back.

I completely agree about Blue Moon! Ever (which, by the way, is the dumbest name in all of history) should have at least told him what happened with Roman. Speaking of whom reminded me all together to much of an evil version of Bones from the Night Huntress series.
Arcadi, Im not sure im going to keep reading, the next one is (due out in Nov) the first one had real promise but if the next one is like this last i think im done. I hate reading a book and feeling like iv been cheated... can i get thos few hours back? :)
