Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments Welcome to You'll Love This One! Please introduce yourself and tell us a bit about you.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments Welcome Stacy! You found the best group in GR!

message 3: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments Hi Stacy. Welcome! I'm glad you found your way to us, and I hope you enjoy the challenges as well as the other activities we have. One of the best is the chatting.

message 4: by Stacy (new)

Stacy (missmcstace) | 268 comments Nice to meet you both! What a lovely welcome! I am looking forward to taking part in this challenge, it stood out as a really interesting one. It should be fun finding the books too. I already have Patricia Cornwell's "Portrait Of A Killer - Jack the Ripper" so I think I'll start with that one :-)

message 5: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments Is that book part of a series, or a stand alone book? You may need to rethink it. What a perfect title for the Serial Killer challenge, though.

message 6: by Stacy (new)

Stacy (missmcstace) | 268 comments I have Patricia Cornwell's Kay Scarpetta series, there is over twenty in that set so I can still clear that shelf hopefully. Although the one I mentioned is a stand alone book, I will read it with the others. Is the series I've mentioned valid for the challenge? Thank you :-)

message 7: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments The series is valid, but the stand alone book won't count for points. Sorry. I hate to throw a pail of water on you like that. Don't forget to make your thread. We're all eager to see what series you have on your list. :)

message 8: by Stacy (new)

Stacy (missmcstace) | 268 comments No, thank you... And if I don't clear that shelf (series) then you have my permission to throw water at me! I've collected all of her books and haven't got round to reading them yet, some of them have been there for years! :-)

message 9: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments That's a year long challenge all in itself! Good luck, Stacy. We'll be sure to cheer you along.

message 12: by Susan (new)

Susan Hello, I'm Susan from Adelaide, Australia. I'm retired and I love to read and play computer games. I also like knitting and quilting. I'm married with two daughters and am eagerly looking forward to the arrival of two grandchildren this year.

I read mostly crime fiction and fantasy, but like to read from a wide variety of genres. Currently reading North and South by John Jakes.

message 13: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Welcome Susan! Lovely to have you along with us. Sounds like you'll fit right in, as there are many quilters and gamers here as well as readers!

Hope you are staying cool and safe today, and are no where near the madness up in the Hills at the moment.

message 14: by Susan (new)

Susan Hi Rusalka. Luckily I live near the sea, nowhere near the bushfires. My brother-in-law lives in the hills and left his home on Friday night. He has no idea whether he still he has a home to go to or not, so it's pretty bad.

On a lighter note I'm looking forward to participation in the challenges.

message 15: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments It looks like you've jumped right in!

Crossing fingers and toes for your family. Hopefully all is okay.

Stephanie Welcome Stacy and Susan!!

message 17: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments Welcome Susan! You will quickly feel at home here!
I enjoy knitting too, but due to lack of time is a relegated activity in my life right now.

Sorry to hear about your family. Sending positive thoughts from here!

message 18: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments Welcome Susan from a fellow quilter!

message 22: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Welcome Stacy and Susan! It sounds like you're both settling in nicely. Our challenges are about much more than reading - there's chatting, snacking, drinking tea, and more chatting. ☺

Susan - I hope your brother's home is spared. Rusalka - weren't you part of some kind of bush fire watch group?

message 23: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments No no. They are just all over the news when they happen here. We don't things by halves in this country, so bushfires are usually newsworthy, but Adelaide's had a BIG one this week.

message 24: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Welcome Stacy and Susan! :D

message 35: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (magickrhythm) Hello: My name is Amanda. I'm married and live in Texas. I've been reading since my teenage years. The first "adult" book I ever read was Second Child by John Saul at the age of 13! I have been hooked ever since.

During my college years, I would make a list of books to read when the summer arrived since I didn't have time to read for fun during the semesters. Then I discovered Cross Stitching and had to start making a choice, read or stitch in the summer.

That is when I found a love for audio books and realized I could do both at the same time! Now that is all I "read." Listening to them makes my 2-hour daily commute more tolerable.

I have never really been good at "discussing" books but I hope being a part of this group will help me past that hurdle.

message 36: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments Welcome Amanda. Great you found our group!
I used to cross stitching many years ago, but now if I have some time for this kind of activities I rather knit.

Any comment, thought or feeling you experience reading a book and you could share with us will add up to the discussion!

Sarah | 18550 comments Welcome to all the new members - what a great time to join us right at the beginning of the year. I hope you enjoy joining in the challenges and group reads.

message 38: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments Welcome Amanda! I won't tell you how many unfinished cross-stitch projects I have. I should pick them back up and do them while listening to audiobooks. I've wondered how much I would be able to concentrate on the audiobook when counting my place for the next stitches.

Thank you for the welcome!

I tried knitting once, it was a disaster! I wish I could have gotten hang of it because I see so many patterns that I want to make!

Thank you for the welcome!

It took me a bit to get the hang of it at first. I still sometimes have to hit the rewind button on the Audible app. But not as often as I do when I try to listen at work!

I used to cross stitch too, Amanda. I have not tried it while listening to an audio book, though.

message 42: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments I used to knit as well, and crochet. I think I've tried it all. I've even done pottery. But, quilting has held my attention for over 10 years.

message 43: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Hi Amanda! I've got a few cross stitch projects hiding around my house that I keep saying I'm going to finish one day.

You might find yourself following a discussion and end up participating before you know it :D

message 44: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments I never tried to quilt, Janice, but I have kind of admiration for the people who do it. It looks pretty complex. Same thing with crocheting. I've done very basic crocheting in the past, but things like Peggy does are a piece of art!

Amanda (magickrhythm) Janice wrote: "I used to knit as well, and crochet. I think I've tried it all. I've even done pottery. But, quilting has held my attention for over 10 years."

Maybe one day I will get into quilting, but right now I can only afford one hobby at a time! I've already told my husband he has permission to tell me "No!" when I asked him if I could take up scrapbooking. :)

message 46: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments Scrapbooking is something I never tried. I did the books for a scrapbooking store and worked in the store on their computer. I knew I'd be simply handing over my earnings (and more) to the owner if I ever started buying stuff.
