INTRODUCTIONS - 2015
Hi Brett, welcome to YLTO! We always have something going on - check out the June Toppler threads for some added fun. You'll also discover that there's a bunch of die-hard Stephen King fans here :)
Nicole wrote: "You've just intimidated me into silence. I always find it hard discussing my thoughts with teachers cause I either get a blank stare or a "you're dumb" look."The only blank stares allowed around here are those from people zoned out from reading. Don't be intimidated. We don't have any members who put on intellectual or academic airs. Just relax, be yourself, and have fun.
Welcome Brett. I see you've already jumped right in with the Series challenge. We all love to talk so I'm sure you'll find some thought provoking (and not quite so) discussions going on.
Welcome Brett! Look forward to many discussions, disagreements, and just general nonsense with you. Glad you found us.
Hi there! My name is Angel. Been looking for a group like this. I belong to a group challenge for getting a certain number of books from the library, and I have a year goal of 100. But I don't have a group that really recommends specific books or challenges beyond where to get the books from. Looking forward to the challenges and the discussions! (Although I admit, I don't quite get the point system yet...)
Hi Angel. Welcome to our group. The point system on our challenges just adds more "challenge". Some people try to get the highest score they can. Others aim for the lowest score in an attempt to win the glue stick. We award badges for most activities in the group. Everyone gets a "wall of fame" on which their badges are posted. One of the most coveted badges is the gluestick. We don't always do points. It just depends on Rusalka and my moods when we design them.

Mainly I'm looking for a creative way to tackle my ever-growing TBR. The serial killer idea is great, once I figure out how to report it. And choosing a book based on the challenge--like the transportation-based one--is going to be great. Sometimes the TBR list is so long, it's overwhelming. This is going to be great fun. Glad I found you.
Welcome, Angel! I'm sure you'll get more familiar with the group activities in a couple of days. This is a great place!
Thank you for all the kind comments! This is such a friendly group. I'm enjoying the challenges thus far!
Hello Everyone! looking forwarding to reading and talking with you. My name is Patti and it is going to be great fun reading with you! I live in Tulsa with my two puppies and cats. I love to read and have since I was 4. Hoping to have lots of fun discussing the books books thanks!
Angel wrote: "Mainly I'm looking for a creative way to tackle my ever-growing TBR."Yeah, we all say that at first. But we have creative ways of helping it grow. The term is enablers.

I love to re..."Welcome Patti! You've joined at a perfect time when all the new activities start. Don't miss out on the week long toppler (read-a-thon). We're in the planning stages now.
Angel and Brett, it's Toppler time. Come and join in on the fun, too. And Angel, there's a quick link thread in the Year Long Challenge folder that will take you to the participants' personal threads for examples. I highly recommend mine (of course). Hehehehe!
Hi everyone! I'm Kylie and I love all things books. I'm 19 so that means since college became my life I haven't had much time to do what I love and that's reading. I hope to rediscover my love for reading and books through groups! And also interact with people who share that love :) I mostly read contemporary fiction, classical fiction and some young adult books but I'm open to more! Looking forward to being apart of this group!
Hi Kylie. Welcome, you've come to the right place. We have lots of activities to help you rekindle your love of reading.
Welcome Angel, Patti, and Kylie! Our challenges are a fun way of tackling your tbr, and then adding even more books to it. ☺ We read a wide variety of genres, so you'll always something you like, and discover new ones as well. We're glad you found us.Check out the Toppler section and see if you'd be interested in joining. It can be confusing at first, but we're happy to answer questions.

Welcome to all the recent new members. Definitely THE best time to join us at the beginning of the month with lots of exciting things to take part in. Looking forward to seeing you around.
Hello, everybody!I thought a good idea to re-introduce myself, not having posted anything for more than 2 weeks (give or take).
It was not absence of will, I was very busy at work (had to travel even)..., but here I m, again!
I will try to participate in the Toppler, but be warned Group of mine, I probably can read only 1 book (work will remain hard through june)
Glad to see you check in Mariab! Hope work calms down for you soon. Welcome back! And welcome Kylie! This is a great group for getting you back into reading. No real commitments, you can pick up things as they take your fancy. Then all of a sudden you realise you're reading 5 books a month for the group! Hope you enjoy.
Hey Everyone! I am Saumitra and am from India. I love reading books and my preference of Genre keeps changing. Some of my favorite books (there are many, but from my recent reads) are Azazeel (Youssef Zeidan), Foundation Series (Asimov), Crime & Punishment (Dostoevsky). So I read multiple genres. I am looking to getting know about newer books for my future reads. As for the challenges, might not be up for it, but will give it a try :)
Wellcome Saumitra!!!Do not be afraid to participate in challenges. They are a lot of fun!! And all the people here are very kind and helpful
Hi Saumitra, welcome! The challenges may sound more daunting than they actually are. As Mariab said, we're a helpful bunch so don't feel afraid to ask questions.
Thanks Mariab, Janice for the welcome! As long as i get a list of books for challenges for which the themes are unknown to me(I saw a lot of folks do share that), i can give it a go!
Saumitra wrote: "As for the challenges, might not be up for it, but will give it a try :)..."Just jump in and give it a go, we've all been a newbie asking a thousand questions and are happy to answer yours!!
Hi Saumitra, welcome to you and Angel, Patti, Kylie and others. What are your favorite genres? I think I split my reading 50-50 between fiction and non-fiction. Plus, I read poetry.
Welcome : )

Hi Tejas Janet, I spend almost 80% on Fiction. Within Fiction, 50% Would be modern fiction (Baldacci, Patterson, Koontz, Grisham etc), 20% SciFi, 20% Mythological Fiction (Started this recently as many Indian authors are coming out with good books on the same) 10% Classical Literature & Philosophy (Dostoevsky, Machiavelli etc).
Welcome Saumitra. As people have already said, don't be scared to have a go at the challenges - they are great fun. We all had our "first challenge" at some point so we are happy to point you in the right direction if you need it.
Hi, I'm Laura. I love reading but currently feel like I can't find anything that I absolutely adore, so I am after some great recommendations. I am currently putting together a reading list for a long trip that I am taking, but lacking in inspiration at the moment. Looking forward to looking through all of the recommendations on here!
Welcome, Laura! You are in the right place! I's sure your TBR shelf will be overload with great recommendations. We can not help it. :)
Hey, I'm Catherine. I'm an English Lit major and always reading to expand my TBR list. Looking forward to joining in with the challenges and discussions on here!
Welcome Laura and Catherine! Lots of recommendations floating around here, I'm willing to guarantee you both find something to read that floats your boat in this group. Lovely to have you with us.
Good morning all. Just joined Goodreads and found your group. I have wanted to belong to a book club for years, but my schedule doesn't allow it. Glad to have found an online forum. Looking forward to reading many new books with you.
Welcome to all the new members. I just joined a couple of months ago. It is an active and fun group. Word of warning: My TBR pile has tripled since joining this group.
Good morning and welcome Laura, Catherine and Tammyburger! We have several activities to keep everyone in books and chatter. The more the merrier, so jump right in and feel at home. :)
Thank you all for the warm welcome. I've already added some books to my TBR shelf that sound great, and I've suggested a theme for the July. This group is so much fun!
I'm Kandice. A GR friend told me about your group. It's certainly active, which is a good thing! I will read almost anything with the exception of non-fiction if I can help it.
Welcome Kandice. We're happy to have you join us. I'm not a huge non-fiction fan myself, but I will read them every now and again.

Welcome Tammy, Laura, and Catherine. Join in as your schedule allows - a little or a lot or something in between.
Amanda, my to read list is now around 1130. Yeah, like I'm going to be able to read all these books plus the books I keep adding. Next year, I might weed thru some of this list and assign a priority level. Maybe.
