Hi Stacy. Welcome! I'm glad you found your way to us, and I hope you enjoy the challenges as well as the other activities we have. One of the best is the chatting.
Nice to meet you both! What a lovely welcome! I am looking forward to taking part in this challenge, it stood out as a really interesting one. It should be fun finding the books too. I already have Patricia Cornwell's "Portrait Of A Killer - Jack the Ripper" so I think I'll start with that one :-)
Is that book part of a series, or a stand alone book? You may need to rethink it. What a perfect title for the Serial Killer challenge, though.
I have Patricia Cornwell's Kay Scarpetta series, there is over twenty in that set so I can still clear that shelf hopefully. Although the one I mentioned is a stand alone book, I will read it with the others. Is the series I've mentioned valid for the challenge? Thank you :-)
The series is valid, but the stand alone book won't count for points. Sorry. I hate to throw a pail of water on you like that. Don't forget to make your thread. We're all eager to see what series you have on your list. :)
No, thank you... And if I don't clear that shelf (series) then you have my permission to throw water at me! I've collected all of her books and haven't got round to reading them yet, some of them have been there for years! :-)
Hi Stacy! Welcome! Make sure you pop over to the January Challenge and check it out, it only started a few days ago.
Hello, I'm Susan from Adelaide, Australia. I'm retired and I love to read and play computer games. I also like knitting and quilting. I'm married with two daughters and am eagerly looking forward to the arrival of two grandchildren this year.I read mostly crime fiction and fantasy, but like to read from a wide variety of genres. Currently reading North and South by John Jakes.
Welcome Susan! Lovely to have you along with us. Sounds like you'll fit right in, as there are many quilters and gamers here as well as readers!Hope you are staying cool and safe today, and are no where near the madness up in the Hills at the moment.
Hi Rusalka. Luckily I live near the sea, nowhere near the bushfires. My brother-in-law lives in the hills and left his home on Friday night. He has no idea whether he still he has a home to go to or not, so it's pretty bad.On a lighter note I'm looking forward to participation in the challenges.
It looks like you've jumped right in! Crossing fingers and toes for your family. Hopefully all is okay.
Welcome Susan! You will quickly feel at home here!I enjoy knitting too, but due to lack of time is a relegated activity in my life right now.
Sorry to hear about your family. Sending positive thoughts from here!
Hi, Susan, we are thrilled to welcome you to our gang. Just be prepared for the unexpected and a good time!
Welcome Stacy and Susan! It sounds like you're both settling in nicely. Our challenges are about much more than reading - there's chatting, snacking, drinking tea, and more chatting. ☺Susan - I hope your brother's home is spared. Rusalka - weren't you part of some kind of bush fire watch group?
No no. They are just all over the news when they happen here. We don't things by halves in this country, so bushfires are usually newsworthy, but Adelaide's had a BIG one this week.
Hello! I am Isabel from Michigan, US. I love reading and just found this group. It is such a welcoming group and I am excited at being part of it. The challenges look very interesting and I am sure I will have fun.
Welcome Isabel. Any person with their kitty kat as their avatar will undoubtedly fit in. Enjoy, and be sure to ask any questions you may have.
Welcome to all the new members! I am sure you will all enjoy being a part of this group.Isabel, I love your cat!
Welcome Isabel! Our challenges are made for fun! You'll have to go to our Pets topic and tell us all about your cat - who is very beautiful.https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Welcome Isabel! Wonderful time to join. All our January activities have just started! Enjoy and let us know if you have any questions.
Hello: My name is Amanda. I'm married and live in Texas. I've been reading since my teenage years. The first "adult" book I ever read was Second Child by John Saul at the age of 13! I have been hooked ever since.During my college years, I would make a list of books to read when the summer arrived since I didn't have time to read for fun during the semesters. Then I discovered Cross Stitching and had to start making a choice, read or stitch in the summer.
That is when I found a love for audio books and realized I could do both at the same time! Now that is all I "read." Listening to them makes my 2-hour daily commute more tolerable.
I have never really been good at "discussing" books but I hope being a part of this group will help me past that hurdle.
Welcome Amanda. Great you found our group!I used to cross stitching many years ago, but now if I have some time for this kind of activities I rather knit.
Any comment, thought or feeling you experience reading a book and you could share with us will add up to the discussion!
Welcome to all the new members - what a great time to join us right at the beginning of the year. I hope you enjoy joining in the challenges and group reads.
Welcome Amanda! I won't tell you how many unfinished cross-stitch projects I have. I should pick them back up and do them while listening to audiobooks. I've wondered how much I would be able to concentrate on the audiobook when counting my place for the next stitches.

Thank you for the welcome!
I tried knitting once, it was a disaster! I wish I could have gotten hang of it because I see so many patterns that I want to make!

It took me a bit to get the hang of it at first. I still sometimes have to hit the rewind button on the Audible app. But not as often as I do when I try to listen at work!

I used to knit as well, and crochet. I think I've tried it all. I've even done pottery. But, quilting has held my attention for over 10 years.
Hi Amanda! I've got a few cross stitch projects hiding around my house that I keep saying I'm going to finish one day.You might find yourself following a discussion and end up participating before you know it :D
I never tried to quilt, Janice, but I have kind of admiration for the people who do it. It looks pretty complex. Same thing with crocheting. I've done very basic crocheting in the past, but things like Peggy does are a piece of art!
Janice wrote: "I used to knit as well, and crochet. I think I've tried it all. I've even done pottery. I've already told my husband he has permission to tell me "No!" when I asked him if I could take up scrapbooking. :)
Scrapbooking is something I never tried. I did the books for a scrapbooking store and worked in the store on their computer. I knew I'd be simply handing over my earnings (and more) to the owner if I ever started buying stuff.
Hello! I'm Ronyell and I'm a huge book lover as I read books constantly! I'm always open to new recommendations on great titles!
