New Purchases - 2015
I used two credits at Audible and got His Majesty's Dragon (based on everyone here's glowing comments) and Blood Song.
I hope you like it Janice! We have been listening to the series on Overdrive, but Amy bought the last two books in the series from Audible for Becky because they were not available from the library. She is a good sister even if Becky still is my baby. :0)
Blood Song has a very high average star rating. I am looking forward to reading it. When i get to it.
Roz wrote: "Today I bought some books for my kindle:.."I debated about getting some of those books too.
Tasha wrote: "That sounds good, Lisa! I added to my tbr."I does sound very good. I am going to read it once I have finished my current book so I will let you know what I think.
I just picked up three more books:Uprooted
A Portable Shelter
(there was only 1000 copies of this hardback printed so I was lucky to get one)For Such a Time
Travis of NNY wrote: "Bought Superego audibles daily deal. Reviewer says Dexter in space. Got my curiosity"I will be keeping on eye out for what you think about it. Sounds like it could be amazing... or a flop!
Grr! I pre-ordered The Thorn of Emberlain a month or so ago. I just got an email from Amazon to say that the publication date has changed. It's now been pushed back to July 2016!! Well at least they don't take any money until the book is released.

Yeah about that. I never completed my transaction it turns out. So I didn't buy it

I just ordered
which is a prequel for a new series. I also preordered
which is the first book in the series and releases September 1st. I loved the Hollows series by Kim Harrison so I am really hoping this one is just as good.
Sarah wrote: "I just bought Anno Dracula."I keep wavering about getting that one. It's been on my Audible wishlist for ages... well, a year any way. I just looked to see when I added it to my shelves (June 8, 2014).
Sarah wrote: "Whoops Travis! @Peggy - The book was originally due out in September or October this year."
I had better luck, my book was "only" postponed until march/april 2016!
I was curious and started reading the reviews for Anno Dracula, Sarah and Janice. Sounds like a love it or hate it kind of book. It sounds like an interesting storyline for all of the literary references but I don't know about the vampire presence. Will wait for your report. :0)
I saw that too Cherie. it's been on my wishlist for ages because of the vampire part so fingers crossed. it was only 99p so if it isn't any good then I haven't lost much.
Coincidentally, Anno Dracula is today's Kindle/Audible Whispersync deal. Snagged it. :)Two of the three of my friends who have rated it, gave it 4 stars. The other gave it 3 stars, so I'm hopeful I'll like it too. If not, it didn't cost me much.
In order to finish off the Charley Davidson series, I picked up:Seventh Grave and No Body
Eighth Grave After Dark
For I Have Sinned
I just bought Sand Omnibus and Astoria: John Jacob Astor and Thomas Jefferson's Lost Pacific Empire: A Story of Wealth, Ambition, and SurvivalThat last one is really for my husband. He reads more nonfiction than I do so when we go away he can have something to read. Sounded interesting.
The Serpent of VeniceCode Zero
In the Kingdom of Ice: The Grand and Terrible Polar Voyage of the USS Jeannette
What If?: Serious Scientific Answers to Absurd Hypothetical Questions
The Getaway God
The Providence of Fire
I love things like What If? I've not read it but I love weird questions as I'm a curious person and I'm always asking questions. I've asked some classics over the years - Do chickens have periods? Do butterflies remember being caterpillars?
Sandra wrote: "What If? sounds interesting, Travis. I added it. I think my oldest kids could enjoy this one."This book is very good. A rec.
I really need to stop buying books. I have so many already on my kindle to read. I just bought Second Grave on the Left. Looks like another one's caught the bug...
Sarah wrote: "I love things like What If? I've not read it but I love weird questions as I'm a curious person and I'm always asking questions. Sarah wrote: "I really need to stop buying books. I have so many already on my kindle to read. I just bought Second Grave on the Left. Looks like another one's caught the bug..."It's a highly infectious bug.
Grabbed Animal Farm, The Motorcycle Diaries: Notes on a Latin American Journey and The Narrow Road to the Deep North.
Pragya wrote: "Grabbed Animal Farm, The Motorcycle Diaries: Notes on a Latin American Journey and The Narrow Road to the Deep North."Did you have a good time in London and Scotland Pragya?
I just bought a book for my partner and in order to qualify for free postage i had to buy some for myself. So i got Jurassic Park and The Andromeda Strain as neither are available on kindle. Also i got Words Will Break Cement: The Passion of Pussy Riot which we'll no doubt both read.
Sarah wrote: "I just bought a book for my partner and in order to qualify for free postage i had to buy some for myself. So i got Jurassic Park and The Andromeda Strain as neither are ..."Looks like you went on a mini Michael Crichton spree Sarah :)
I do like his writing style Lisa. I'll need to prioritise them being actual books to free up space in the boat.
Sarah, I think you will find that Andromeda Strain is kind of dated. Don't get me wrong. I love his writing. I have not read JP yet but I remember AS vividly. Have you watched the movie? It is an oldie but goodie. One of the better SF movies of it's time.
I started listening to the audio of Andromeda Strain and it was old and I couldn't pay attention which is why I got the book. Not seen the film I don't think. Gotta read it through as it's about viruses.

After I read Out of Africa (I found it at a garage sale) and loving the movie - one of my top ten favorites of all time, I decicided to look some of the other characters up. It led me to read West with the Night and the Too Close to the Sun: The Audacious Life and Times of Denys Finch Hatton. I wrote reviews for all of them.
