I cover both books and tv series. Saved me when i read the 4th book after a year of hiatus.
Not sure about the tv series. I just saw part of saison 1.
yes, ^^^ that too. That is very hard to read.
I find the tv just an abridged version of the books. It follows very well. My only gripe has been leaving out details from the book to make sure there is plenty of sex inthe show. Not that sex bothers me I just feel they leave out a lot of details more important to the story to add in plenty of boob since sex sells. While there is much sex in the book most of it isn't vital to the plot. With some exceptions of course
Or maybe they need to have a few more episodes in a season to cover it better.
I know of people who watched the first 2 seasons and then picked up book 3 and said they had no problem picking up the story withouy readin the first 2
Oh, I read something yesterday... on Twitter. (Still waking up here.) I tweeted that I had started to read GOT's, and "A Game of Thrones" favourited my tweet. I didn't know it had it's own twitter account. I started reading all the tweets on their page, and found one that said something to the effect that if you aren't reading the books, you are missing out on so much. So abridged makes sense.Speaking of waking up - COFFEE! Must get a cup of coffee! BRB

I read the first 4 GOTs books of couple of years ago. I have them on my kindle but had to pick up a hard cover of one of them at one point because at the at the end of the book a rundown of the families (members, titles, relationships) was provided. So many characters can overwhelm. I didn't get to the 5th book because at the time it hadn't been published. I think I'm going to have yo reread the 4 I have. It won't be the first time I've reread a series.
Roz, I have several series I plan to start over this year. You're not alone on that!
I'm reading The Neverending Story. Tomorrow I will be starting City of Bones for a buddy read and part of the series challenge :-)I am loving The Neverending Story. I will have to check into the movie once I finish reading it. I saw it forever ago same with the second movie starring Jonathan Brandis. I had a huge crush on him back then :-)
I got The Neverending Story out of the library and started it a couple of days ago but I'm having an unusual problem. It's written in two different inks: a brownish red when using Bastian's voice and blue when he's reading the book. It's very tiring for my eyes. I'm expecting my new glasses to be ready soon, so maybe it'll be better. In the meantime I'm reading The Hobbit. Actually it's a reread after more than 30 years.
If your glasses don't help, Roz, you can check if your library has the penguin paperback edition too. It's the one I'm reading, and it has two different fonts instead of colors.
Roz, I understand eye troubles. Mine get blurry way before I'm ready to stop reading. I've noted something I need to ask my doctor. I was recently diagnosed with high blood pressure (hypertension) and put on medication. Doctor says it's in my genes! Darn my parents genes! I doubt it has anything to do with being overweight and not exercising. Same as my parents, but is THAT their fault, too? Duh! Anyway, I noticed that a symptom of hypertension is vision problems. Wonder if the medication will help with that, or if it's totally unrelated. Could just be plain old tired eyes.

Dad has high blood pressure too. His vision is blurry and feels a little dizzy because of the vision. His Cardiologist said this am that she expects to see him in her office bright and early Monday morning. No, persistent vision problems is a sign that your medication could be at wrong dosage.
I think we should blame EVERYTHING on our parents!! I just had my yearly eye exam a week ago and the dr said I had slightly high pressure in my eyes (not to be confused with high blood pressure --my blood pressure is usually on the low side). I only need glasses for distance, but since i do a lot of computer work I'm getting progressives this time. Also he had me wear my glasses and then he put an external lens in front of them and told me to read a page of print in my lap. Usually with my glasses on, a book in my lap would be blurry. This was crystal clear! Hence the progressives.
Anne, thanks for your concern. I've just started my medication. Today was my 2nd dose, so I'll see if there is improvement. I'm also going to call my doctor and ask her about my vision.

I worry because I have seen the blurry vision side effect in my family and they all have had to get their medicines changed. Hope you do well. =)
My husband has high blood pressure since coming off chemo and radiation treatments. It took quite a while to get his meds right. Lots of bad reactions including blurry vision, palpitations and feeling faint. There are so many high blood pressure medications out there it takes a while to get the dosage right.

One the doctor told me to watch for is a scratchy throat.
I finished Heir of Novron for the 'Serial Killer' challenge. I absolutely loved it! It was a brilliant end to a brilliant fantasy series and I am sad to have reached the end. Still, at least there is the prequel series, 'The Riyria Chronicles' to fall back on! :DI am now going to start The Secret History which has been on my TBR for ages. This will also be my first Donna Tartt book.

Still,..."I know what you mean. I listened to Rise of Empire and Heir of Novron one right after the other. After close to 60 hours of Royce and Hadrian in less than three weeks, I had major withdrawal symptoms. I decided I had to wait a while before Chronicles :)

I think I might wait a while to start Chronicles too. It's tempting to start on them straight away but it would probably be better to space them out a bit so that I have something to look forward to over the coming months.

Brother went on meds in his mid-20s but luckily I'm doing okay with diet and exercise. Being in Japan helps, too - yea fish! :D

Sounds like a good book, Dem! I've added it to my ever growing TBR. My grandpa on my dads side had dementia. It is such a heart breaking disease. Sadly, he passed away in 2005 from pneumonia.

re Game of Thrones series - I vaguely remember that at the end of series 1 (TV), something happened which was from the beginning of book 2. or the other way around?!? I can't remember now. The first couple series are very true to the books and as Travis said, abridged almost but with more sex. The last series I thought deviated more from the book but not in a major way. I thought watching the series added to the whole experience and I wasn't disappointed with the character portrayals - they chose the cast well.
Sounds great, Sarah. I'm kind of consumed with the book, so I shall indulge with the tv series. I have my friend's dvd's of the complete first season sitting on my counter, waiting patiently for me to fi1nish the book. 12-1/2 hours to go.

I gorged a bit on historical romance over the holidays so I'm looking to get my feet back on the ground with An Incomplete Education: 3,684 Things You Should Have Learned but Probably Didn't. The authors are good and snarky in the introduction so I have high hopes!
Finished Heaven and Hell to kill a series, but not a level. Started The Gathering Storm wheel of time #12. It takes 1 page to realize this isnt Robert Jordan writing. A niticeable difference after he has written practically 11 of the same books by now in his style and form. It does feel like Branden Sanderson but if we didn't know it was him I can't say I would definitely know who was writing. Other than it is definitely different than Jordan in its way
It was intersting to note in the beginning Sanderson tells us Robert Jordan wrote the ending of the series. Sanderson just needed to take it from book 11 to Jordan's comoletion. Which in typical Sanderson wordiness requires us to read yet 3 more books to get there.

Which my brother recommended because he recently started the series. I'm enjoying it. It is by no means the best book I've ever read but its easy to read and I'm liking where it could go (I'm only half way through so far).

I've finished The Crown Conspiracy and now on to Avempartha. I was going to break the two up and read another book (The Daylight War) but I'm going to try to hold out until April so I can grab more points plus I don't want to have too many books on the go at the same time (the two Riyria books are in an omnibus so it will still be in my "currently reading" section).

I'm reading Drums of Autumn, the 4th Outlander book, for the series challenge. I'm really enjoying it, but I do feel a bit slow reading through it. It's over 1000 pages in small print, and though it's not difficult to read, it's very descriptive and I can't really race through it. Which is okay, but I have so many other books to read!
I finally finished Phantom at 12:30 this morning. I struggled a bit with this book especially in the beginning. I got to the end, and wouldn't you know it? Cliffhanger! Argh! So I immediately started the final book in the series Police.

Got my new glasses today. What a difference! I took out the copy of The Neverending Story and the two ink colors are no problem. Now I just have to find the time to read it.

I've not read War Horse because I saw the movie and it upset me so much. That poor horse went through so much. The battle scenes were horrific. People were dying, too of course, but I was more worried about the leading horse and the other horses.
