Kimberly | 2033 comments I'm going to give Letters from Skye by Jessica Brockmole a try As I've finished reading The Autobiography of Henry VIII With Notes by His Fool, Will Somers by Margaret George and loved it 5 stars and one I would defiantly recommend to the historical fiction lovers in the group.

Kimberly | 2033 comments I finished Letters from Skye by Jessica Brockmole and enjoyed it a lot, 4.5 stars. Now I'm reading Virgin: Prelude to the Throne Virgin Prelude to the Throne by Robin Maxwell by Robin Maxwell which I had on my shelf for years.

Jackie | 57 comments I'm starting Red Joan by Jennie Rooney. It's a spy story inspired by a real life one. Have heard its really good and it has a pretty good rating, so am looking forward to it

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Finished A Street Cat Named Bob: How One Man and His Cat Found Hope on the Streets and it is quite an amazing story, AMD part of a series. So, I've ordered the next one from the library. James and his famous cat Bob are all over you-tube. You can see what an intelligent cat Bob is.

Now I'm reading Shadow Spell which is part of a series and quick, easy reads. I wasn't sure I was going to continue this series, as I'm not really fond of romances. At least the books have a supernatural element and they are well-written. It's also an easy one to put down while I read my toppler book which is going to be Libriomancer.

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Travis, I've got the 5th Game of Thrones book to pick up from the library. I'm looking forward to seeing what the other characters have been doing. I read at the back of book 4 that Martin was writing and writing the fourth book and realized he was going well over 1000 pages, so he decided to split it into 2 books and divide up the characters featured in each book.

Joco | 9 comments I'm currently reading The Young Elites by Marie Lu which was recommended to me by a friend and I really like it so far!!

message 1157: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments I finished The Children Act and have some ambivalent feelings about it.

Starting my toppler read: Revenge of the Witch.

That one is on my wishlist. I hope you enjoy it.

message 1159: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I finished Lamentation for the serial killer challenge. I absolutely loved it! It was a long wait for this book to be published but it was worth it.

Next up is Deathless. This will be my first book by Catherynne M. Valente and it sounds like it will be really interesting.

Yes there is a site boiledleather.com that shows how to tandem read books 4 &5. Im going to do that when I re-read them. You read so many pages of 4 and so many of 5 and fo back ad forth but its supposed to make more sense

message 1161: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4530 comments I went to a staff meeting on Friday. I don't work in our main office, which is probably a good thing. Our commissioner must have gone to an administrative motivation seminar or something because he called the meeting to tell us we had to read Who Moved My Cheese?. I read it when it first came out, years ago. We each had to chose the character we thought best described ourselves. Instructions are to come back in 2 weeks to discuss the book and tell each other who they really are. That should be interesting. I see a brawl in the future. I told my former supervisor who retired a few years ago. She asked me when I planned on retiring. I told her I was considering a week and a half from last Friday. ; )

message 1162: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments ROFL Roz! I hate those kinds of management "tools". I haven't heard about that one though. I might look up the book. Hang in there!

message 1163: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I bought Who Moved My Cheese as I like finding metaphors to use with clients but the book stayed on my shelf then I got rid of it when we moved without it being read. Oops.

message 1165: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4530 comments Cherie, my commissioner said he wanted us to read 2 other books as well. Maybe after he sees the blood splatters in 2 weeks he'll give up.

message 1166: by Pragya (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4026 comments Lol, Roz. Too funny. I read that book years back in school.

message 1167: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments I managed to read two books for the toppler - Revenge of the Witch and Thirteen Reasons Why. Now it's back to the regularly scheduled reading, The Hundred-Foot Journey. I shall also be starting Hollow City a bit later today.

message 1168: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments Changed my mind. I don't have to finish Hollow City until July, so I'm going to read another book from my series killer challenge, Broken Harbour.

Oh, gee, I wish I'd done that! Oh well, I'm sure I'll be fine.

message 1170: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Roz, that sounds like an absolute nightmare! Haven't read the book. Maybe one day, but not high on my list.

message 1171: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I finished Nexus. Loving my Sci-fi right now so moving on to Slow Bullets which is the first book I've read by that author. It's a short one so it's a good place to start I guess. I'm also getting in early with the Space theme for next month.

message 1172: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19143 comments I just started Heft for no other reason than it's been on my TBR for a while and it fit my mood. :)

message 1173: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments I finished The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry yesterday. I'll report it now, and I still have to read the spoilers in the thread and make my own comments.

I started The Girl on the Train, but I'm only a few pages into it. It has very good reviews, though.

message 1174: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Started the 2nd book in The Cemetery of Forgotten Books series: The Angel's Game. I've been wanting to get to this for quite a while now. Taking a break from Game of Thrones for it!

I am dying to know how it is! I am going to get to it someday!

Mariab | 3059 comments @Roz & Cherie:
I have always thought self-improvement/ self-help books only helps the author who wrote them (to pay the bills); the only book this kind I found interesting was Six Thinking Hats Revised Edition, which was (is) very helpful in productive group-meetings

message 1177: by Mariab (new)

Mariab | 3059 comments I'm reading the last Black Dagger Brotherhood book,The Shadows. Hope to make some killing with it (series, of course, series...)

message 1178: by Roz (last edited Apr 20, 2015 06:08PM) (new)

Roz | 4530 comments I know what you mean, Mariab. I've often wondered what makes a person think he/she is an "expert" and qualified to tell others what they should or shouldn't do to find happiness, success or whatever it is they're selling.

message 1179: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments Yeah, there's not recipe for being happy...

Mariab | 3059 comments Kristie wrote: "I just started Heft for no other reason than it's been on my TBR for a while and it fit my mood. :)"

The plot of this book (what you can read in GR) has made me think in a movie I've watched years ago "Finding Forrester", starring Sean Connery as a (self) ostracized writer. Here is the link:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0181536/

message 1181: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I loved that movie!

message 1182: by Rusalka, Moderator (last edited Apr 20, 2015 10:59PM) (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments I just finished Fetish for the serial killer challenge. Complete Mary Sue, but a fun one. Canadian model/PhD student solving murders in Sydney, written by a Canadian model living in Sydney, who now is a PI after researching all her books, thought she may as well get qualified, and now is doing a PhD (many years after writing this book) but not in forensic psych like the book model is.

Benefit is I like Tara Moss and she is an amazing advocate for writers and women in Australia. So it didn't bother me too much. The book seems to be a way of her to make sense of her own experiences as much as telling a serial killer story. I wonder if it will colour my reading of her non-fiction The Fictional Woman. But I will pick up another Makedde book.

Now to finish the Hitchhikers trilogy with book number 5 Mostly Harmless

message 1183: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I've started The Spirit Thief for the series challenge.

message 1184: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments Lol, Rusalka, a trilogy with at least 5 books! That's weird! :)

Welcome to the world of Douglas Adams! In fact, the by line on my book says "The fifth book in the increasingly inaccurately named Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy trilogy."

I vaguely recall seeing the trailers, but I never watched the movie. I'll have to check it out. Thanks!

message 1188: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments The Girl on the Train is being such a page turner!

message 1190: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I read a quickie - Slow Bullets. I quite liked it. Now I'm on to Forever Odd. I don't need to read another series book for the level I'm on as my audio book will kill the level when I finish it but I have more series books than stand alones at the moment it would seem.

message 1193: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Cherie, I'm enthralled by The Angel's Game. I am forcing myself to put it down every few chapters so I can work on my knitting project, and that's VERY hard to do.

message 1194: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments I finished Made in the U.S.A. on Monday. It was just okay.

I'm working on Pretty Little Liars which was supposed to have been my toppler book, but life got in the way and I'm still working on finishing it. I'm enjoying it so far.

I started listening to The Fellowship of the Ring this week as well. I really liked The Hobbit so I'm hoping I enjoy the LOTR books just as well.

I think when I finish reading Pretty Little Liars that I will start a re-read of the Harry Potter series to get ready for my trip to Universal Studios Orlando next month. I can't wait to explore Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley in person!

message 1195: by Canadian Dragon (new)

Canadian Dragon | 1020 comments Enjoy :). I loved walking around Universal Studios and exploring Harry Potter I heard there is even more to see since they have expanded the park

message 1196: by Kimberly (new)

One word - audiobook.

Okay, more than one word. I really enjoyed that whole series. It's a definite re-read at some point.
