I need to read Hope to Die, to kill that one off. I actually own it, just haven't got to it yet :-)

I own Alex cross's trial so I will start that one today :) I will wait till the last day to pick up hope to die from the library. That should hopefully give me enough to time to read the Trial and Merry Christmas! I love JP books because they are such fast reads :)
Reading Crusade still an interesting idea but I'm not sure the series may be a bit too slow paced for me. Undecuded. The Emperor's Blades so far so good
Well, bummer! I thought I must have given away Alex Cross's Trial at some point because I can't find it :( off to the library!!
Finished my reread of The Shadow of the Wind for this month's challenge. Enjoyed it much better the 2nd time around and will continue with the series. Now I'm reading a book set in Ireland which isn't really one of my genres, but it's a fast read. Kinda mindless. Dark Witch
Finished Dead Wake: The Last Crossing of the Lusitania
This is my review: www.goodreads.com/review/show/1229744632
Now I'm reading the 3rd book in the Matthew Corbett series: Mister Slaughter. I highly recommend this series and the author.
I finished The Garden of Evening Mists for the monthly challenge. Tonight, I will start The Likeness which is a series read.
I just finished Macaron Murder. It is another series! I rated this book with 4 stars even though the writing wasn't that great but the story kept my interest.
Janice wrote: "Tonight, I will start The Likeness which is a series read."I love that series, Janice. It's so well-written. Each book can stand on its own, as the author focuses on a different protagonist in each one.

I've read the first and third book and really enjoyed them both. I'm eager to dig into it.
Finally finished City of Lost Souls, which was better than City of Fallen Angels, but I'm still not enjoying these books as much as the first three I read years ago. I didn't like Clockwork Angel either, when I read it a few years ago...I don't even remember if I finished it, actually. I think I'm just soured on Cassandra Clare. I think the fact that her stories are cobbled together from elements of other more recently popular stories is a fair argument, though I'm kind of okay with that, because it was a fun enough story at first. Now, I'm finding her perspective kind of myopic...in that, no matter whose POV we're in, it doesn't really feel too unique to the character. They're all just versions of each other. Also, I don't like how often the POV shifts, a lot of the times spent in some of the minor characters feels superfluous to the story she's trying to tell. Picking up The Power of Six, which will be a nice change of pace until City of Heavenly Fire becomes available from the library, and I can put The Mortal Instruments on the killed list.
I'm about finished with Solar Storms for this month's weather challenge. Then I'll finish up Quilty as Charged: Undercover in a Material World. Reading it just because. Finally made it to top of the hold list!
Probably next book i'll start will be Dead Until Dark, book one in Sookie Stackhouse series, which I expect to be a guilty pleasure for the series challenge.
I just finished Wreckage, which did not work for me. The characters were like cardboard cutouts, and the dialogue was completely unbelievable. The entire book was too boring and unbelievable, and the main characters were just too self absorbed for me.I am currently reading All the Birds, Singing, and I am really enjoying it.
well...thanks to Connie and this group my current reading list for this month looks like this:The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry
Let the Right One In
In the Woods (as a catchup after the others)
Room (ditto catchup)
and also, for other groups
The Girl on the Train
The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August
lol...better get started!
I finished The Girl Who Played with Fire, and I'm still in shock. I don't think I could write a review before finishing the all trilogy. I started yesterday American Rust, which was a Jackie's recommendation long ago. I'm only a few pages into it. It looks good. I needed some time to catch up the author writing style, though.
that trilogy is soooo good, Sandra!...i am seriously considering re-reading it now, after making my way through Tattooed Girl...its a collection of essays and interviews with folks that either knew Larsson, or are involved in various aspects of the social justice programs he was involved in and used as the themes for the books...i highly recommend it if you enjoyed the series and would like some context for them...through it i became aware of other authors of Swedish crime fiction, one of whom wrote the title the book buddy folks are gonna cover in April...Let the Right One In
Sandra - wait until The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest! Wow! I read that Stieg Larsson wanted to write another novel to continue Elizabeth's story, but he died before he could. This was in an article I read when his then live in girlfriend gave an interview. I had the link to the interview on my old laptop - oh well...
They've got someone to ghost write another book That Which Does Not Kill. To continue Lisbeth's story. I'm staying away like the plague.
if i am not mistaken, this next book was mostly completed by Larsson before his death so it might not be too bad...that said, i am concerned that it was his father, i believe, that contracted to have it ghostwritten and he has not been terribly respectful of Larsson's wishes regarding Larsson's legacy...i will probably read it, out of curiosity and hope, but i fear it may end up being a travesty
Just finished Merry Christmas, Alex Cross. What a great book! James Patterson really keeps you reading Alex Cross :)

I agree with ceeeeg that a ghostwriter may not be the best decision for to complete Larsson's 4th book in this series. Leave well enough alone, I say.
Finished Mister Slaughter (harrowing), then The Providence Rider (harrowing, too), and am now starting The River of Souls to kill the Matthew Corbett series to date. Good stuff!
I am reading Pump Six and Other Stories by Paolo Bacigalupi. As some of you already know, I don't get on well with short stories so I was taking a riskvwhen I bought this book. I started it yesterday and am on the third story. this book is so good. I am glad I have persevered with short stories. I guess the key is find an author you like and read short stories by them rather than these genre compilations.
Maybe it is an acquired taste, Sarah. I have read many volumes of short stories by authors I really liked. It did not mean that I liked all of their stories any more than I like ALL of the stories in any of the anthologies. It is just a different form of reading. We don't like all of the books we read, so why should we like all of the stories in a book of short stories? I think it is great if it happens, but in my experience, it is rare.
I hope you find the rare exception in your current selection though!

For pleasure - Confess
Thanks Cherie! And Camilla! I have been keeping in mind what you said about each story being a photograph. I've read four stories. They are weird, bleak and while they can have abrupt endings, I have so far been able to enjoy the tale for what it is. Obviously there are some which I've liked more than others but I'm nearly half way through the book and that is a massive achievement for me. I think you'd really liked it Camilla. So if I finish this one, I might have to buy the collection by Joe Hill 20th Century Ghosts which I've been umming and erring over to see how I get on with those. I know going for an author you like isn't always guaranteed success as I didn't get on with Smoke and Mirrors but that was his early works.
I'm really glad you've found at least one short story collection that you like! Also I still need to read other short story books by Neil Gaiman, I wasn't too thrilled about Smoke and Mirrors either (mainly due to the poems, which I found really weird; the actual short stories were a bit better).
I find I prefer novels to short stories as a rule. I just want more involvement, more development, more meat. I want to lose myself for hours at a time. However, that isn't to say that there haven't been some short stories I've not liked, and I still will occasionally pick up a book of them. I did enjoy Stephen King's short story compilations, but then I'm an avid fan of his. Plus, every time he releases a short story in a magazine, I'm very keen on buying the magazine. The ones he's written in the last couple of years have been very good. I've got to get to 20th Century Ghosts, too. However, all the novels I've got on my shelves keep taking precedence. Smoke and Mirrors is on my TBR shelf, too. I've read most everything Gaiman has written, but haven't been itching to read this one because it's short stories.
I finished The Monk which was a really enjoyable classic. Here is my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...I am now starting A Place Called Winter just because I really want to read it now.
I'm starting a new series! I really need to finish series before I start a new one but the book that I'm starting to read, Open and Shut, has a golden retriever in it so I must read it ;-)
I am reading Reaper Man and Going Postal for my Series Challenge and listening to The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry on CD for the April Group read.
I finished All the Birds, Singing and truly enjoyed it. I am currently reading The End of the Story by Lydia Davis, and this is a great book for me. I love her writing style, which reminds me of Virginia Woolf. I am also reading Vanessa and Her Sister, a historical fiction novel about Virginia Woolf and Vanessa Bell.
I'm in a pickle. I borrowed The Likeness from the library. It showed that I had 2 renewals available. Because I had other books on the go, I didn't start it until the other day. It's due on Thursday so I went online to renew it, only discover there are no renewals available. I hate that! I may have to incur a fine and let it be late.
Saw the cover for the English version of the 4th book in the Dragon Tattoo series, called The Girl in the Spider’s Webhttp://www.crimefictionlover.com/2015...

Thanks for the review. I have this one sitting here out from the library. I may not get to it in time but I'm definitely going to renew if I don't. This guys writes such interesting stuff.
I finished Red Seas Under Red Skies and loved it! I was so caught up in the tension, I was holding my breath. Oh the scrapes those two get themselves into!! It's so much fun wondering how they're going to get out of them. Next up is Wizard and Glass for our Dark Tower buddy read.
I started reading Let the Right One In for the monthly challenge and buddy read. Loving it so far (not sure that's the right word for it though). I have one more story left in my short story collection and then I'll be starting Wizard and Glass for my series challenge and buddy read.Glad you enjoyed Red Seas Janice. It is a great book and certainly tense throughout.
I finished The Crown Tower which was awesome, as expected. One more chapter to go in The Call of the Weird: Travels in American Subcultures, and I know now I like Louis Theroux better on tv than in a book. Also started the very short Mammy Walsh's A-Z of the Walsh Family as a refresher before reading the last book in the Walsh Family series, which will complete my second level.

Love the cover, Rus
I've read City of Bones, Missy:) I have the next one ready to go soon :) Hope you continue to like the book! Have you seen the movie?
Stephanie I did see the movie and I actually really enjoyed it but now after reading almost half of the book I can see why there were a lot of people who said they didn't like the movie as much. I have the whole box set of the Mortal Instruments and the Infernal Devices at the ready for when I finish this one :)
I enjoyed the movie as well, I think because I saw the movie before I read the book. If I do the other way around, I don't usually end up liking the movie as much :) that's awesome that you have the set!
@Lynda. You nailed the point about The Mortal Instruments serie. I have read the 1st and the 2nd. and part of the 3rd. I got tired somehow and wasn't able to put my fingers on the reason why. Your comments are exactly right. I'm not sure I would read the whole Serie... I also think the reason of these "different" POV about the same event is only to "stretch" the story in order to publish more books. It is what I call "watering down the soup". I'm alergic to that (only in books); and because many Series do the same I'm very suspect with Series in general. I prefer a honest Serie, which was planned as such from the start
