Rusty (rustyshackleford) | 2198 comments I really do hate them, higher-ups at work. I know that you department heads despise each other. Don’t care. I know that you each think the other is incompetent. DON’T care. I know that you like to snipe each other whenever the opportunity arises. DON’T CARE. I know that the outcome of this confrontation will determine who has purview over which projects. DOOOOOON’T CAAAAAAARE! Yes, I’m affiliated with both departments involved. But regardless what happens, I have a job, at the same pay, doing virtually the same thing. I have other things in life to think about, so don’t try to bring me over to your side, or conspire with me. To quote Tom Selleck in the movie Monte Walsh, “You can’t have no idea how much I don’t care.”

Okay, it’s good to get that out of my system.

Lori (tnbbc) Ok, admit it Rusty. You are working where I work. I'm onto you.

Sadly, this shit happens in every place of employement. Wonderful the way the world works, isnt it?

smetchie | 5729 comments I have 3 bosses with differing agendas. I hated it at first. But now I just ask all 3 and go with whatever answer I like best.

(i had to look up machination. jesus christ. sometimes you people make me feel like a real fucking dumbass.)

Yes, okay. And the purpose of this thread was to draw you out. Are you the one who keeps taking my lunch? You could at least bring the tupperware back - my wife is getting pissed.

message 5: by Lori (new)

Lori (tnbbc) Ha! I swear it's like you DO work with me. We had a tupperware thief once... When he was 'uncovered', it was NOT pretty!!

message 6: by smetchie (new)

smetchie | 5729 comments Lori, you're kidding me right? You've got to be joking. Someone was actually 1) stealing tupperware and 2)not slick enough to get away with it? you're pulling my leg. Oh man that's a good one. My husband is always losing the tupperware at work. I wonder why he didn't make up a "tupperware thief". Maybe he realized I would die laughing at his retarded excuse and then he'd have to take care of the kids all by himself.

Hahaha... HEHeheee... Hahaha....

For some reason these small thefts always make me laugh. I know that's inappropriate, but whatever. Hehe. It's usually the food that vanishes. Tupperware. That's a good one.

message 8: by Lori (new)

Lori (tnbbc) Dude was stupid enough to use one he stole on an overtime shift and ended up eating his dinner out of it IN FRONT OF ITS PREVIOUS OWNER!!!

Hee hee hee

I still laugh about that.

message 9: by Kasia (new)

Kasia Dumbnuts.

message 10: by Lori (new)

Lori (tnbbc) Tell me about it.

message 11: by Tom (new)

Tom Foolery (tomfoolery) If you have problems with food thieves in your workplace, why not try a syrup of ipecac-salad sandwich?

message 12: by smetchie (new)

smetchie | 5729 comments Did the previous owner of said tupperware leave it in the sink for someone else to wash. If so, they deserve to have it stolen.

message 13: by Lori (last edited Sep 24, 2009 06:19AM) (new)

Lori (tnbbc) nope. It was clean, sitting on the counter waiting for him to collect it at the end of his shift.

Shame too. It was his mothers old-fashioned tupperware. The ceramic kind. Pre-Plastic kind.

message 14: by Harry (new)

Harry (harry_harry) We had a guy steal a lunch and get caught too. One guy went out to lunch. A place called Mimi's Cafe. He ordered the open faced turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes and a side of broccoli. He didn't finish it so asked for a to-go box. He offered the leftovers to a friend back at work. The friend accepts and places the said leftovers in the fridge. When it comes time to eat it, he searches the fridge and can't find it. He asks others if they've seen it one guy adamantly denies any knowledge. As he is denying, he is blocking the view of the microwave and seems weird. The friend asks what he's cooking and come to find out...it's turkey and mashed potatoes. The lunch thief says they are his...when it finishes reheating, they discover that the box says Mimi's Cafe. Hmmmm. I may have had to punch the guy in the nose! You DO NOT MESS WITH A MAN's MASHED POTATOES!!

message 15: by Lori (new)

Lori (tnbbc) A ha ha ha ha! Caught red handed! How do you continue to fight that battle I wonder? A punch in the nose is ABSOLUTELY called for in that case.

But, oh...

On a different note, would you accept someones half eaten left overs? That's kinda gross!

message 16: by smetchie (new)

smetchie | 5729 comments I would! Of course it depends on the person. Because, you know, some peoples germs are grosser than others. Like people you don't know or don't like or who are stupid. Their germs are bad. But cute people, who are funny and nice: their germs are fine!
Scientific fact.

message 17: by Kasia (new)

Kasia Yeah, pretty much what Gretchen said.

message 18: by Lori (new)

Lori (tnbbc) Not I.
Kids and hubby germs only. No one else's.
And I am a bit skeptical on other people's home-made foods too. You just never know....

message 19: by Harry (new)

Harry (harry_harry) The thief claimed a friend of his brought him lunch, but couldn't say where he got it...even though it said it right there on the box. He said it was a case a mistaken to go food. But really...he was asked point blank, "have you seen my turkey and mashed potates?" The guy is a douche!

As for eating someone else's leftovers, it was two guys who are related...Uncle and Nephew.

message 20: by Kasia (new)

Kasia Oh, how I wish I could say "You weird Americans with your weird little problems" but I cannot. The food theft thing seems to be a global phenomenon. We had one of them "sneaky thieves" over here. Or at least she thought she was sneaky (I have a hunch it was a girls). She'd eat some of your lunch, just a little, and leave the rest be. So if you're not too observant. You'd miss it. But come on. I can see when half of my meat is gone. Or that thing with olives. I bought a salad. Left it for later in the fridge. I come back 2 hours later and all the olives are gone. She hand picked all the olives.... Dude, seriously? Olives? Sometimes I don't get people.

message 21: by smetchie (new)

smetchie | 5729 comments Is that like a clepto thing? Or are you really really hungry or something? I don't get it. I have mixed feelings on food theft. When my co-worker was pregnant she thought someone stole her sandwich and she went into the bathroom to cry!

My sweet, Korean neighbor told me this upon seeing my 3-year-old walk by someone's plate of cheetos and pop one in her mouth: "in Korea we say stealing food is not a crime".

I dunno. I get mad when someone steals my food for no good reason. But I also have issue with grocery stores keeping the baby formula locked up and not on the shelves. I'm on the fence. Someone sway me.

Reads with Scotch Well, steeling is wrong it is not yours...

Also if one can't afford baby formula then why do they have a baby?

message 23: by Kasia (new)

Kasia Gretchen wrote: "Is that like a clepto thing? Or are you really really hungry or something? I don't get it."

I think it's more like a craving thing...

My theory: We're used to sharing food - there's usually only one fridge in each house, we do grocery hauls together within household, offering food is a sign of hospitability. And then you have workplace, where there are boundaries. Some people are going to have problems adjusting to that. They'd see a yummy sandwich, start craving it, craving it some more and then give in. It's only food, right? It's cheap. It's not expensive. Not a big crime. I'm sure nobody would mind much, etc.

That's how people justify it. I've seen it happen over and over. Roommates. Coworkers. Friends crashing over for a few days. I get it. It makes me angry a lot. It's rude, inappropriate and wrong, but I get it. (There was also that article that explained the issue better than I'm trying here, but I cannot locate it right now....)

Of course you should NOT have a baby if you can't afford formula. But should the baby starve just because you're an asshole? That doesn't seem right.

Reads with Scotch it would be best to leave it on some steps somewhere... maybe at good will. Does goodwill have a kid bin? You know how they have those cloths bins all over the place? I'm sure the have some for kids too.
