I recently came across this book as I was going down a rabbithole on audible. I read the synopsis and then listened to sample. My phone locked during the sample and when I went to reopen the app, audible promptly forgot what it was doing.

The book is a part of a series... I think the most recent book is book 8.

The sample(start of book one) is a scene about the girl searching for friend who was off to steal food for fellow orphans.

Into the Deepwoods is the first book in the series. It’s by Paul Stewart.

Looking at that book it is unfortunately not the one I am looking for.

I remember there being mention of a princess in the synopsis, and that it was setting up there to be a connection between the two female character.
