Elizabeth☮ I am currently reading The Heart's History by Lewis DeSimone The Heart's History.

I recently finished The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender by Leslye Walton The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender which is a really magical story of a mystical family of women that don't have very good luck in love. But it is so much more than that.

message 103: by Robin P (new)

Robin P I really liked What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty. I've also enjoyed The Husband's Secret and Big Little Lies It sounds like one or more are going to be made into TV or movie productions. They appeal to my friends who like chick lit but also people who are more serious readers.

I really liked Big Little Lies. What Alice Forgot wasn't as compelling a read to me, but I still enjoyed it.

It is 2 books and i have just finished the first 'Storm In June'. It is just brilliant and if this was a rough draft i can not imagine how good it would have been if she could have finished it! Irene Nemirovsky was definatelt a feminist of her time as all the women characters are so strong and independant and fierce where as the men all come off as slightly pathetic and very weak willed. I am diving into the 2nd part now 'Dolce'

Hi Robin,
Since you like her work and I trust your judgment, I'm going to read "What Alice Forgot". I like a little chick lit now and then, but get annoyed when I pick one that is too brainless. Thanks!

Yes, let us know what you think - I have had it on my Kindle for a while, but never got around to reading it. I loved the secret life of bees, but have heard this is different.

message 128: by Elizabeth☮ (last edited Aug 05, 2015 05:53AM) (new)

Elizabeth☮ Kathy,

Actually, the first one with these characters is better. The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate (Calpurnia Tate, #1) by Jacqueline Kelly The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate. It is so much richer with character development. The setting is rural Texas and it is a time period when girls aren't supposed to do much but get married and keep house. Try that one and see what you think. I believe you would have lots to discuss if teaching it.
