Abigail Bok (regency_reader) Currently trying to read Abdication by Juliet Nicolson and not connecting with it (bad sign when I keep going off and reading other things). Has anyone read it? Does it get more engaging?

message 53: by Felicia (new)

Felicia I am currently reading A Very Russian Christmas (Her Russian Protector, #3.5) by Roxie Rivera . It's a romance and it's part of a series. I keep saying I'm going to read something else and come back to the series later but I can't seem to do that. I'm addicted.

Stacie Lauro | 78 comments I am almost done reading First Frost which is the second book in the Waverly series by Sarah Addison Allen. I enjoyed the first book more then this one. I actually prefer her earlier books in general.

I totally judged this book by it's cover but I thought it made a good coffee table book - I'll let you know whether it's good. The author makes her own beautiful watercolor book covers.

Terry ~ Huntress of Erudition Elizabeth wrote: "I am planning on starting Landline by Rainbow RowellLandline."

I was going to buy that on Audible, then got sidetracked by The Girl on the Train

Let me know how it is, Elizabeth. I think I'll listen to that next month.

message 62: by Elizabeth☮ (new)

Elizabeth☮ Will do Terry.

message 66: by Symone (new)

Symone Lewis | 30 comments I am currently reading Native Son by Richard Wright .

Terry ~ Huntress of Erudition Right now. I am listening to "The Girl on the Train", about a girl that fantasizes about the people she sees from her train window as she is commuting to and from work, but is much much more than that and you realize she may not be a reliable narrator of what is actually going on....it is really good and I have no idea how it will end - l love that in a book. So much better than the one I just finished, " The Memory Box" (which was totally a "Gone Girl" rip off)

message 68: by Stacie Lauro (new)

Stacie Lauro | 78 comments I am currently reading Big little Lies. I always enjoy Liane Moriarty books. I love Madeline, the sassy, irreverent protagonist as well as the depth of the back stories of the supporting characters.

Terry ~ Huntress of Erudition Yes, that was a good one! I think Liane Moriarty would be fun to talk to in person.

message 70: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) I am currently reading a lovely historical novel, The Kashmiri Shawl by Joanne Dobson. Set (mostly) in the 1850s in India and New York. Highly recommended.

message 76: by Stacie Lauro (last edited Mar 21, 2015 01:40PM) (new)

Stacie Lauro | 78 comments I am currently reading The Red Scarf by Kate Funivall. It is the first book I have read by this author. About 50 pages in I almost put it down but I forced myself to persevere. I am 115 pages in at this point and I am still not in love but there is something compelling about it that keeps me reading on. Has anyone read this? Any feedback?
At page 200 i became much more engrossed in this book. I actually really liked it. You need to suspend your rational thinking as it is quite far fetched but good.

message 77: by Neal (new)

Neal Thakkar (nnt15) | 1 comments I got a hold of the galley of this book and it was the best thriller I have read in years. There is an amazing secret world for the black market for organs that I knew nothing about and the protagonist in this novel explains it all, while racing around the globe trying to prevent a murder and trying to make up for his own sins. Incredible book. Mark it "to read" right now. The Organ Broker

I started Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson. Not sure what I think of her writing.

message 86: by Stacie Lauro (new)

Stacie Lauro | 78 comments While I am waiting for two of my books to come in from the library for the pairing challenge I am reading Heading out to Wonderful, by Robert Goolrick. It's a beautifully written, easy read so far.

Terry ~ Huntress of Erudition Hi Jennifer, Wintergirls" is definitely a haunting book - I thought about it all the time while I was reading it and afterwards. The writing is quite YA, though. It was a book that my son's ex girlfriend left at our house.

message 88: by Elizabeth☮ (new)

Elizabeth☮ I just finished In the Kingdom of Ice The Grand and Terrible Polar Voyage of the USS Jeannette by Hampton Sides In the Kingdom of Ice: The Grand and Terrible Polar Voyage of the USS Jeannette which I found fascinating and a fairly quick read. I recommend it to anyone that has an interest in exploration or good narrative non-fiction.

I am now reading The Love Song of Miss Queenie Hennessy by Rachel Joyce The Love Song of Miss Queenie Hennessy which is moving quickly.

message 89: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm having trouble with Wintergirls because it's not complex enough for me. I'm not learning anything new so far, and the characters seem like stereotypes. In Cassie's case, (view spoiler). But we'll see what I think when I'm about halfway through it.

message 90: by Cathy (new)

Cathy (travlnbard) | 41 comments I am reading Cold Granite as a physical library book; The Gemini Effect on my kindle; am listening to The Bees on my iPod (when I workout) and The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business in the car on my commute.

Terry ~ Huntress of Erudition Jennifer (Official Goodreads Glutton for Punishment) wrote: "I'm having trouble with Wintergirls because it's not complex enough for me. I'm not learning anything new so far, and the characters seem like stereotypes. In Cassie's case, [spoilers removed]. ..."

The writing was kind of one dimensional, but it was the first book I read about anorexia, so I found it interesting.

message 92: by [deleted user] (new)

I think I'm disappointed because the blurb on GR made it sound SO GOOD, and because it's been on my TBR forever. We'll see.
