Brendan (mistershine) | 930 comments I think you should. If you loved everything about PSS except for the pacing, The Scar doesn't have the pacing issues that PSS did. I also thought PSS was a bit uneven, and I actually read the series in reverse order, starting with Iron Council. Personally IC is my favourite of the three, then The Scar, but I'd call The Scar the best entry point.

Awesome, thanks. Yeah, it was definitely the pacing that annoyed me, so I will try and get to The Scar sometime this year.

Although Bas Lag is not without its own set of bugs ...

Cherok I'm currently listening to The Martian's audiobook, and also reading What If?: Serious Scientific Answers to Absurd Hypothetical Questions at bedtime. I cannot stress enough how hilarious this one is, especially for geeks/engineers/etc.

Alice Finished Watership Down! What an amazing book!

I'll begin reading Grave Peril now. I'll stick with the series a while longer before I give up. Since everyone seems to love it :)

I agree. I also read The Scar first and after reading all three Bas-Lag novels, I think that was the best move.

Funny coincidence. I just finished Watership Down and went straight on to Fool Moon.

Trike | 11242 comments I read them both, decades apart!

Jenny (Reading Envy) (readingenvy) | 2898 comments Dipping into The Fire Sermon, an advanced copy of the first book of a new post-apocalyptic series. Interesting so far, twins that are dependent on each other for survival but can't live in the same communities. And everyone is a twin.

I've lost track of that series (I have a few of them but haven't had time to go back...yet). Is the series "done" or is it just the most recent one done?

message 266: by Mimi (new)

Mimi | 6 comments there must be something in the air because i'm on Fool Moon as well - i had read a few random books later in the series and decided to give it a go from the beginning. at the same time i started the iron druid and kingkiller series (thanks to holidays where it rained non-stop), but i'm about to put those on pause for The Scar.

David Coulson | 15 comments Since I last checked in I have finished The Broken Eye and Annihilation.

The Broken Eye was good, though it felt very much like a transitional book, setting things up for book 4 in the series. I liked how many of the characters evolved (Kip, Karris, Teia) but after the action and hints of the larger world we got in The Blinding Knife I couldn't help but think that it was a let down.

Annihilation was... strange. I've never ready anything quite like it. I spent the first half of the book gradually realizing that there wasn't to be an explanation about what was going on because it was a world that. After I accepted that I enjoyed the rest of the ride. Very interested to see what the story of the sequels is.

Taking a break from in depth stuff and doing a re-read of Lock In. I'm interested to see if I still enjoy it was much knowing what happens this time.

Marion Hill (kammbia1) I just finished reading The Book of Strange New Things by Michel Faber by Faber.

A thought-provoking Adult SF Novel that should be a selection for book clubs this year.
