What makes this a series?

It was contracted by the publisher as a series. The series is called The B Mine series, as can be seen on both the publisher's website, my own website, the series logo on the cover of each book, and they do indeed have a shared universe and characters in common.

For future reference, the parts I have underlined are irrelevant for being considered a series on Goodreads. Only the bolded portion pertains to our criteria.
