Hello members!
The chosen for our fantasy/royal themed BOTM is The Selection!

As today is May 1st, we can start reading and discussing today. Talk about characters, settings, have debates, ask questions, make predictions, or just discuss your favorite/least favorite parts of the book.

If you are unable to participate due to not having the book or not being able to access it anywhere, please let me know and we might have a special quarantine BOTM like challenge type thing for those people.

My least favorite part of the book is Aspen

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

my favorite part of the book is the food lol...the strawberry tarts challenge

Ani (anic) | 156 comments I already started listening to the audiobook yesterday and at first I wasn't so sure about the narrator's voice but now I can't stop listening! I'm already on chapter 10 :)

message 5: by Ani (new)

Ani (anic) | 156 comments Also, I don't like Aspen either. Really annoying.

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

have to admit, there was something I liked about Celeste...she's pretty awful but I'm kind of a sucker for ruthless female characters

message 7: by Sara (new)

Sara | 98 comments Ooh this is going to be fun! Although it'll be hard to talk about with spoilers lol

message 8: by Ani (new)

Ani (anic) | 156 comments Okay I am getting a little annoyed by America, but only in the part where she goes to the gardens and talks to Maxon like that. I forgot how sweet Maxon was.

message 9: by Jawahir (new)

Jawahir the Bookworm Haven't read this in a while! I remember though distinctly I never shipped America and Aspen, Maxon all the wayyyyyy.

I totally agree. I mean, I hated her in the first book but she definitely gets better, by the end of the series I couldn't help but fall in love with her

☀ Kat Nova ☀ (katvnova) | 307 comments Did you guys hear about the movie coming out? Ooh I hope they cast it well

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

yesssss The Selection is going on Netflix!!! That casting BETTER be good or I will be so mad

message 14: by ☀ Kat (new)

☀ Kat Nova ☀ (katvnova) | 307 comments If it's bad, I'm officially suing Netflix 😤

message 15: by Jawahir (new)

Jawahir the Bookworm Omg really!? First Six of Crows and the Shadow and Bone trilogy now this, Netflix here is making all of our bookish dreams come true!

message 16: by Tessa (new)

Tessa Herondale~Carstairs (jessawessa) Yeah!

message 17: by Snigdha (new)

Snigdha (theproudbookworm) Yay! Really hope they make it good.
Talking about the book I personally loved it. I didn't really like Aspen but Maxon was a gentleman. Totally agree when you say he increased my expectations for men!

message 18: by Sara (new)

Sara | 98 comments Wait they're making a movie????? Imma have to get Netflix now. Although gotta say that as someone who doesn't actually have Netflix, I get the impression that Netflix movies are really a hit or miss type thing and if it's a miss we're going to have a percy-jackson-movie sized riot on our hands

message 19: by Ani (new)

Ani (anic) | 156 comments I really hope they cast it well tbh! But they'll probably will. I wish Netflix would take care of the Percy Jackson adaptations as well.

message 20: by Ani (new)

Ani (anic) | 156 comments Omg I'm so in love with Maxon. I forgot how sweet and gentleman he was.

message 21: by Ani (new)

Ani (anic) | 156 comments What chapter are you guys on??

message 22: by Ruxi (new)

Ruxi (The Lightning Reader) | 1 comments I should re-read the first Selection book, its been 8 years haha. At first I was totally team Aspen

message 23: by finn (new)

finn (frogadventures) | 1 comments i just started this yesterday, i’m currently on chapter 4. i feel like i’m the only person here reading it for the first time lol.

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

i already read the first two books in January so I have a decent memory of what happened

lmao you're lucky, I wish I could read it again for the first time

message 26: by Jawahir (new)

Jawahir the Bookworm Ani wrote: "Omg I'm so in love with Maxon. I forgot how sweet and gentleman he was."

Same, he's such a sweetheart

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

My favorite is Marlee.

message 28: by Ani (new)

Ani (anic) | 156 comments I mean I just can't believe some people are team Aspen. He's not even half the man Maxon is!

message 29: by Sara (new)

Sara | 98 comments I love both of them because Aspen really improves as a character throughout the series but I'm definitely Team Maxon.

message 30: by Jawahir (new)

Jawahir the Bookworm Ani wrote: "I mean I just can't believe some people are team Aspen. He's not even half the man Maxon is!"

Thank you!

message 31: by Ani (new)

Ani (anic) | 156 comments Hahaha I do like how things turn out for Aspen, but Maxon is, and forever will be, the right choice.

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

Team Maxon all the way but Aspen is a great friend to America by the end

message 33: by Sara (new)

Sara | 98 comments Yeah even at the beginning of the first book their relationship read as "best friends/brother sister" rather than "lovers"

message 34: by Hedda (new)

Hedda (heddareadss) I read this book a while back, so I'm not reading it at the moment. I have to agree with most comments here, Aspen is definitely more of a friend.

message 35: by Jawahir (new)

Jawahir the Bookworm Yup, Aspen had a great ending to his story. I also liked how things turned out for Marlee in the end.

message 36: by Abrianna (new)

Abrianna (abriannaimbrogno) My favorite part is just Maxon as a whole. I hate King Clarkson especially in The One

message 37: by Ani (new)

Ani (anic) | 156 comments Omg I know, he's such a hateful piece of garbage.

message 38: by ☀ Kat (new)

☀ Kat Nova ☀ (katvnova) | 307 comments Well (view spoiler)

Maxon is perfection, he just keeps getting better with each book. Every time America does something stupid, he handles it so well. (I do love America, she's just very impulsive) In "The One" (view spoiler)

message 39: by Abrianna (new)

Abrianna (abriannaimbrogno) And can we just talk about how amazing Queen Amberly is?! Her backstory is awesome too

message 40: by Ani (new)

Ani (anic) | 156 comments Omg that was one of my fave parts as well. I just think they do make a beautiful couple even though America's indecision frustrates me so much. I have to ask you guys, do you think It's necessary that I read the last 2 books about their daughter? because I don't like the her, but I want to know more about America and Maxon and how their story ends...

message 41: by Ani (new)

Ani (anic) | 156 comments I actually didn't like Amberly's short story. I understand why she acted the way she acted and I admire her for going through all that but...also I hated her blind love for Clarkson and how she let him treat her. Like she was nothing more than a slave or furniture.

message 42: by Sara (new)

Sara | 98 comments I personally enjoyed reading books 4 and 5. I did understand why other people don't like Eadlyn, but I liked the series. It was a nice addition to see what happened to Maxon and America after the main trilogy. Eadlyn does develop as a character through the books, and unlike other people, I was constantly wondering who she'd pick because I legitimately had no idea.
If you really just want more content about the main series without following a new plot line, I'd suggest reading/purchasing Happily Ever After. It has all 4 novellas from the series, a bonus epilogue to The One, and it has "what happened after" stories for some of the other girls. And, there's some really beautiful sketches of the characters before each novella.

message 43: by Abrianna (new)

Abrianna (abriannaimbrogno) I agree with the blind love thing completely. I read the last two books as well as the happily ever after book and I think it bases more on other countries in the future as well as the economic future of their country(can’t think of the name rn)
I also can’t wait for Kiera Cass’ new series The Betrothed

message 44: by Abrianna (new)

Ani (anic) | 156 comments Oh I know I can't wait for The Betrothed!! Alright girls thanks I think I will read them then :)
