I'm pretty sure I read that, and I think it was a Goosebumps book, but I can't remember its title. I'll be back if I figure it out (I might actually have it in my attic).

I am looking for an older kids or young adult fiction genre book, which i read at some point between 2004 and 2011. The book, I feel, was getting old, maybe a decade old. Perhaps a goosebumps book, or goosebumps style book.
A boy of maybe 12-14 yrs starts at a new school and somehow gets detention, so after school hes painting posters in the gym, when a paint can gets knocked over. He goes searching for something to wipe it up with, or new thing of paint. Inevitably he gets lost and i think somehow ends uo in an old part of the school that was blocked off. I think he finds an elevator, gets in, and goes down. The elevator opens up and he is in a world of black and white. The kids are from the 50s and somehow got trapped there. Elevator door shuts and now he is stuck too.
SPOILERS
He goes outside and there are feral kids who decided not to stay inside the school classroom. I think he either hides from them or they catch him and he escapes. Either way, he has to find his way away from them and back to the classroom. His colour starts to fade and he is turning grey like the rest of the kids. I think he finds a pen or something amd manages to draw a door and escape. Gets back to the real world and theres a girl who wears make up and he recognises her from the class photograph at the bottom of the elevator. Turns out shes a grey kid who escaped. She explains that she had a tube of red lipstick in her pocket and she also drew a door. Says a photographer took their photo and the flash sent them to the bottom of the elevator. Next day the same photographer rocks up to take his class photo.
I dont remember much more as I was the type of kid to read 10-15 books in a week, and there are a lot of memories rumbling around up in my noggin.
I'll update if i remember more information.
