Anneke (herzballon) I´ve read "The picture of Dorian Gray" which was also read in this group but I can´t find it on the list. Does anyone know to which season it belongs?

Star Geek Just getting started on reading through the seasons --

S1 (X) The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain*
S2 (X) Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood by Rebecca Wells
S3 (X) The Legend of Bagger Vance by Stephen Pressfield
S4 (X) The Crimson Petal and the White by Michel Faber
S5 ( ) A Room with a View by E. M. Forster
S6 ( ) It Takes a Village by Hillary Rodham Clinton
S7 ( ) In Cold Blood by Truman Capote

9AUG- Adding an "X" as I finish reading the book. Quite a challenge for a little over a month. Even if I don't finish, I'm enjoying the journey.

Kim (flychickadee) | 73 comments Ok-- I'm posting because I'm so happy with this challenge. Before the clusterf* that is 2020 really unfolded, my goal was to get to 3.0% of the Rory list read (I was at 2.4%).

This challenge has helped me to get to 5.0%... and I still have a few left for August! None of the other goals I had for 2020 are going to happen (I wrote them when I didn't know that "global pandemic that leads to shutdown" was going to be a thing).

Thank you, Holly, for coming up with this challenge; it's been one of the few things keeping my sanity this summer :)

Helene I have completed my two lists now. If there is one thing that I can say about the lockdown that is positive, its that it has given me lots of time to read.

That's awesome, Helene!! I still have a few books to go, but I have a plan to tackle them and am hopeful I can finish both challenges. Just finished Eva Luna today and it felt long, so I'm crossing my fingers that Madame Bovary is more enjoyable so I get through it more quickly!

message 62: by Helene (new)

Helene Rosa: I didn’t care much for Madame Bovary at all, although I can see why it made such a stir in its time. Hope you enjoy it more than I did. I have enjoyed this summer challenge so much, and have gotten to read some really good ones.

message 63: by Helene (new)

Helene Rosa: by the way I really enjoyed driving miss daisy and The Godfather which I saw was on your list. Miss daisy is a really quick read too so you’ll definitely get through that in a flash, and hopefully enjoy it too 😊

I'm really excited about Driving Miss Daisy (especially since I never saw the movie so I have very little knowledge of what it's truly about, but I know many people love the movie)! And I've been listening to The Godfather with my husband and it just makes me laugh sometimes - "Italian men have a third leg and the most perfect lips God has ever created." Signed, an Italian Male. Hahaha. But I'm enjoying the themes of loyalty and respect very much.

message 65: by Helene (new)

Helene Rosa: I haven’t seen the movie either, but I will have to make time for that soon 😊

Haha yes I really enjoyed The Godfather and was pleasantly surprised with how much I liked it. I thought it would be very dark and not much humor in it, but I was wrong. I mean it is dark subjects and they obviously lived tough life’s but it was so much more than just that. Still haven’t seen the films though. Probably should but sometimes when I love a book as much as this one I feel like the movie can ruin it a little for me.

Star Geek Updated message #57 - Am starting my fourth book now, The Crimson Petal and the White. Not bad considering I started the challenge at the beginning of August. For the record, I don't expect to finish on time but I am enjoying the books and that's what matters most.

I updated Message 40!

I have finished a few books but doing a list right now is beyond what I can handle. I am enjoying reading.

message 70: by Kim (new)

Kim (flychickadee) | 73 comments We're in the home stretch! Anyone trying to tackle a book or finish a list by the end of tomorrow?

(I'm in the US, so it's Aug 30 right now).

I have one book left to complete the SUMMER challenge, The Five People You Meet in Heaven, and it's doable for me to read it by tomorrow (and I'll have both the seasons and SUMMER challenges done).

This challenge was so fun and came at the perfect time where fun distractions were so needed.

message 71: by Anneke (new)

Anneke (herzballon) I didn´t reached the goal of my Seasons Challenge but I read four of them, so I got a lot more than I was expecting. Happy we did this. Hope there will be something similar when the liberary is open (mine is closed because of covid-19).

message 72: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm pleased because I completed all I could :)

I'm going to make the drawing Friday. If you completed one list, your name will go into my hat once. Twice for both lists. I'll pull a winner and will post!

Great job everyone! This seems to be a hit so I'll come up with something for Fall. I'll have to think on this one.....

message 75: by Helene (new)

Helene Both of my lists are done 😊 I did both challenges.

message 76: by Helene (new)

Helene Also this was really fun to be a part of. Hope we can do another challenge at a different time to

This comment makes me so happy :) I need to write that down and hang it on my wall for when I'm giving myself a hard time at work/school for not doing everything "perfectly".

:)

message 78: by Star Geek (new)

Star Geek Came late to the party - started on 14 August. But did read four good books. "In Cold Blood" is just arriving today so, fairly certain I'm not going to finish in time. Still, liked the challenge!

Kim (flychickadee) | 73 comments Congrats, Karin!!!

message 87: by Karin (new)

Karin Brimicombe thanks everyone!!! this was good for me . Ive enjoyed the show but never really read most of her books. So I jumped out of my comfort zone to do and work towards my yearly challenge for myself.

message 88: by Helene (new)

Helene Hi 😊
Was just wondering if there will be a summer challenge this year as well. Was so much fun last year 👏

message 89: by Rosa (new)

Rosa (rowza) | 86 comments I second that, Helene! last year, I was one book short on each challenge. I never finished The Godfather or Great Expectations (ironic), but I still finished a bunch of books which is more important to me. I'd love to cross more books off my list by participating in a challenge this year!

message 90: by Kim (new)

Kim (flychickadee) | 73 comments I third that!

I haven't been as active in this group (since we're all not more or less confined to our apartments as the world hopefully is transitioning out of covid), but I'd jump in on a challenge this summer if there was one!
