SOLVED. Children's book, collection of cautionary stories, picky eater, small bowls. [s]

One of my elementary teachers read us a book (late 1990s) about a child that wouldn't eat. So the parents asked a Mary Poppins-esque charachter. I can't remember if she did something or just told the parents what to do. But they gave the child food in smaller and smaller bowls (maybe plates). I can't remember the ending. I think the Mary Poppins-esque character was recurring. Like she helped other kids with other problems in other short stories.
