Welcome to our All-ATY Read-A-Thon! If you need a reminder of the rules (or if you have a question), check out our Introduction and FAQs thread.

We will have five genres of books, and shelf tags that go along with each genre (plus a few freebies, for those of us finishing up monthly challenges). Our goal, as a group, is to cross off as many of these shelf tags as possible by the end of the day next Sunday (April 26th).

For this thread, we have TRAVEL.

THE TAGS

1. adventure - Kathy Jo: The Voyage of the Dawn Trader by C.S. Lewis
2. road-trip
3. running
4. latin-america

5. british - Kathy: Death in Berlin bby M.M. Kaye
6. nature - Hilde: Sagaen om Valhall: Idun by Johanne Hildebrandt
7. australian
8. african
9. inspirational

10. food - Brittany: Sourdough by Robin Sloan
11. music - Roxana: Moon Over Soho by Ben Aaronovitch
12. library - Sara: The Stone Diaries by Carol Shields
13. debut
14. wishlist - Roxana: To Have and to Hoax by Martha Waters
15. 2013 - Suzanne: Someone by Alice McDermott

As you complete your books, post them here with the title and author, which tag you are choosing to complete (please only choose one), and a brief note about your book (so we can all get recommendations!).

No, you do not have to read a book in each genre for it to count! It only has to have the tag on the book. (For example, you can read any book tagged 2013 to complete that tag... it doesn't have to be a travel book.)

If you need help finding books, Goodreads has an easy way to see the most popular books on each shelf. Just head to www.goodreads.com/shelf and search for the shelf you're looking for.

Roxana (luminate) | 775 comments Well, since none of the Romance tags remaining work for the book I just finished, I guess I'll bring it over here to travel!

Just completed To Have and to Hoax, by Martha Waters. It's a Regency romcom that was fine, not amazing- too much of the plot, both the initial premise and the ongoing shenanigans, rely on obnoxiously immature lack of communication and basic misunderstandings, which is not my favorite setup for a romance. These ninnies spent FOUR YEARS miserably mad at each other because of something this silly? Even the supporting characters spent half the book telling them to just talk to each other like grown-ups!

Irritating as that trope is, the book fits the tag "wishlist."

To Have and to Hoax by Martha Waters

Got it, Roxana! I hate that trope as well... just talk to each other! Stop lying and keeping secrets! It never leads anywhere good!

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1668 comments Also hate that trope. All that torally unnecessary angst.

Yuuuup, it is the ENTIRE plot, and they spend FOUR. YEARS. just never talking about it. And the "it" turns out to be, frankly, kind of minimal and silly, as they'd have known if they'd ever.........talked about it. Oh well, it was a fast read - on to my next book, I guess!

That would fit with the yearly prompt about a book with silhouette on the cover.

message 9: by Kathy (new)

Kathy E | 3334 comments I've finished Death in Berlin by M.M. Kaye which would fit the tag "british," since she is considered a british author.

This book is a mystery which takes place in Berlin in the 1950s, when Berlin was divided into sectors controlled by France, England, Russia and the U.S. The setting and time period contribute much to the story. The plot and characters remind me of Agatha Christie.

message 10: by Sara (new)

Sara (phantomswife) The Stone Diaries - Tag #12 library - tagged by 34 people.

The book actually is a novel that follows the life of one woman-birth to death. Pulitzer prize winner about loneliness and isolation.

message 11: by Suzanne (last edited Apr 25, 2020 05:23AM) (new)

Suzanne | 349 comments I finished Someone tagged 2013 by 52 people.

Got all of these recorded!

message 13: by Roxana (new)

Roxana (luminate) | 775 comments Just finished Moon Over Soho, which works for "music." Fun book! I'm enjoying this series and looking forward to the third. The audio reader is particularly good, he's spot-on for the protagonist, and this kind of action/adventure mystery novel is great for listening to.

Got it, Roxana! I love when a narrator is perfect for an audiobook... makes the experience so much better.

message 15: by Hilde (last edited Apr 25, 2020 03:49PM) (new)

Hilde (hilded) | 821 comments Finished Sagaen om Valhall: Idun which fits #6, nature. Second book in a fantasy series, combining Norse mythology and history.

message 16: by Brittany (last edited Apr 25, 2020 03:54PM) (new)

Brittany Morrison | 478 comments I finished Sourdough which is tagged for food! I loved it. It was very good centered and eating is one of my favorite things lol it also had a bit of magical realism and I’m always a little partial to books with a little something out of the realm of possibilities.

message 17: by Rachel (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3281 comments I finished Black-Eyed Susans today, which was tagged 2015 by 150 people.

Hilde and Brittany, I've recorded yours here!

Rachel, the 2015 tag is on the Nonfiction thread (not Travel), so I've recorded it over there!

message 19: by Kathy Jo (new)

Kathy Jo (kjsotr) | 304 comments I finally (!!!) finished a book!

The Voyage of the Dawn Treader by CS Lewis. It is the third Chronicles of Narnia book- in published order. It fits the Adventure tag.

Between work and then doing homework with the boy, I just haven't wanted to read!
