SOLVED: Children's/YA > SOLVED. Children’s book read in 1980’s. Boy makes or invents a different type of hamburger every day (possibly alphabetical: apple, banana etc?). Possibly a boy detective? [s]

Gladsong | 2 comments I read a children’s book in the 1980’s about a boy who made a different type of hamburger each day. In the back plot, he may have been a boy detective who solved mysteries, but the memorable thing to me was that he invented different types of hamburgers every day. Maybe it was alphabetical—Apple hamburgers, banana hamburgers, etc. what was the name of that book?

a mom, that's a good start but it's mandatory to include genre and plot details in your topic header. We will close threads that don't adhere to this requirement in this very large group. Please read the Group Rules.

Click the small "edit" link after the header to update it. This only works on the full Desktop website - not the Mobile website or app. (On the Mobile website, there's a "Desktop version" link at the bottom of the page.)

Rainbowheart | 28688 comments It does sound kinda familiar, but I can't place it.

Daisy (daisyporter) | 1200 comments Okay, I think I found it! I was associating it with Hey, Remember Fat Glenda?, but disregarded that since you said it was a boy. However, I pulled my copy of Me and Fat Glenda off the shelf and it has this plot but with a girl cook. It's because her parents eat a strange diet so she cooks for herself and her brother.

Page 8: "So that was why we invented the alphabet-burger. We had only just started on it the week before. A was apple-burgers. Fried apple slices, sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon, slapped on top of the hamburgers......Toby liked the apple-burgers so much he thought B should be banana-burgers. But I didn't go for that at all, so we had bean-burgers....C was easy -- cheeseburgers....D was really hard."
