Prompt 27: A book you can finish in a day

Do you have to finish the book in a single day, or should it simply be a book you could finish in a day if you had a whole day to just sit and read?

I understood it to be the latter.

I've been able to read books 500+ pages in a day before, not that they usually are by any means. So, this may be another prompt checked off later, or after another fitting prompt has already been checked off.

Personally, I'm choosing a novella for this prompt. I actually plan to read the book in a day. I'm leaning towards Truman Capote's Breakfast at Tiffany's or Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad.

I'm considering a collection of Edgar Allen Poe short stories, but may adjust and use The Little Prince or Jonathan Livingston Seagull.

Margaret Atwood's Penelopiad was a brilliant short book. A very refreshing take on greek mythology from Penelope's point of view. Loved it.

I'll probably read a YA novel or something funny for this goal. I tend to read YA faster than other genres. Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist is a good one day read. I read it in one day last winter. It's told from dual perspectives and that kept it interesting. It's fun and entertaining with some serious moments too. I enjoyed it.

I agree with the YA! I'll probably pick a Nancy Drew or R.L. Stine Fear Street novel.

I don't think I would ever have time to sit and actually read an entire book in one day. I rarely have even an hour a day to read. So I think I would just choose a book that I know can be read in a day. Unless I actually get a miracle, I think it would feel amazing to finish a book in a day, so I can still hope it will happen.

I read Heart of Darkness in a couple hours on a Saturday afternoon. Initially, I was dreading it because everyone told me it was the worst book they had ever read, but within a few pages I was pretty much in love with Conrad's writing style. Hands down one of my favorite assigned reads.

I just finished reading The Tales of Beedle the Bard by J.K. Rowling. It is an easy book to read in a single day where it is a series of short stories. I could have used this book for several different prompts but where I actually finished it in a day I decided I better check this one off in case I don't accomplish it again.

I enjoyed that book so much! And you're right it's one that is very easy to get done in a day so would be great for this prompt. Anyone who enjoyed the Harry Potter series would like that book, too.

I read Nothing by Janne Teller for this prompt. It was really interesting and less than 150 pages, so I could easily read it in one evening. It's also very easy to read.

Mine ended up being A Wrinkle In Time by Madeleine L'Engle. I wasn't sure what category I would put it in, but I finished it in about three hours, so I decided to put it here.
It's about 200-ish pages, which is a little longer than what people are probably looking for here. But it's doable.

I am thinking Hemingway's The Old Man and The Sea for this one. My copy is only 127 pages.

I just read The Slow Regard of Silent Things by Patrick Rothfuss in a day. The author does the narration for the audiobook, which was only 3.5 hours. And the books itself is about 150 pages. Defintely a good book IF you've read the KingKIller Chronicles by Rothfuss.

I read Serenity: Those Left Behind. I don't normally read graphic novels, but I am a bit of a slow reader, so the prospect of 52 books in a year was already intimidating enough. I figured I could take it easy on myself with this challenge.

I read The Alchemist for this prompt. Last weekend, I read Night by Elie Wiesel, which has 115 (powerful) pages. I would recommend Night.

I think that this challenge should be a book that you finished in one day. That's not such a rare occurrence for me so it was pretty easy to check off. I read Where She Went for this one because it didn't check off any other prompts that I needed.

I read The Pearl for this prompt. It was originally going to be for the prompt "a book your mom loves" but I finished it within the day so I used it for this one. Luckily my mom had a few other recommendations, too.

Of Mice and Men woul definitely be a good choice for this one. It's one of my favorite books and it's pretty short.

I did Heart of Darkness for a book you started and never finished. It took me a week! The language in it was a rough for me to process! I'm not good at poetic things like that metaphors fine but when you describe a sunset as:

"The sea-reach of the Thames stretched before us like the beginning of an interminable waterway. In the offing the sea and the sky were welded together without a joint, and in the luminous space the tanned sails of the barges drifting up with the tide seemed to stand still in red clusters of canvas sharply peaked, with gleams of varnished sprits. A haze rested on the low shores that ran out to sea in vanishing flatness. The air was dark above Gravesend, and farther back still seemed condensed into a mournful gloom, brooding motionless over the biggest, and the greatest, town on earth."

It makes my head hurt...

I started The No-Cry Picky Eater Solution: Gentle Ways to Encourage Your Child to Eat--And Eat Healthy but did not finish it in one day. I could have but just ran out of time.

I agree with Michelle. I picked The Alchemist by Paolo Coelho. I could've read it in a day but I kind of hated it and so needed a break and finished it the next day. Technically within 24 hours though. ;-)

I read C is for Cthulhu. It's a 26 page, H.P. Lovecraft themed children's book, so it is easily finished in less than an hour. I really loved it and thought it was a genius adaptation of the Lovecraft myhthos for small children. Full disclosure, I grew up with the illustrator, but I think I would've loved it anyways.
