Wow, thanks for sharing that! My dad and I really enjoy reading about record cold weather. 😂 It seems there was another "Cold Friday" a few decades later but I can't seem to find the article now. Our neighbors, who are descended from some of the first settlers in this area, told us about it. They said the mercury froze! It couldn't have been the same cold Friday because this area wasn't settled in 1810.

Nor mine! I hate cold, snow and wind. Wind generally follows snow up here.

I just watched the projected forcast from my favorite (most reliable) local meteorologist. He shows the entire mid-atlantic and New England weather projections. It looks like you and I, from PA to Maine, are in for a rough time for at least another week. Another big storm might hit us this coming weekend and then move up into New England, including Maine. Normally, I wouldn't rely on a longterm forecast, but this guy was a meteorologist for the Army and he is quite accurate. So, we are not yet through this storm...and away we go again!😝

Please pray. They have just increased our snow total to 24 inches. My mom is stubborn and never waits for help, thinking she can still do things she did in her 30's. She wants to go out and shovel. I also pray that we don't lose power! I am very very upset tonight.🙏🙏🙏

Pamela | 2209 comments I did not need Punxsutawney Phil to tell me it will be a long winter. I just need to look out my door to see that. The PennDOT plows and salt trucks have been so busy dealing with the major highways that they have not yet touched our street, which is a PA State Route, not a local municipality road. It is rare for them not to take care of our road, so I can't imagine how bad it must be out there in my area!! Schools are still closed and it is STILL snowing...Since Sunday afternoon! Praying all is well with everyone!

Glad you got your supplies in before the storm, Pammy Jo! It still hasn't started yet here but looks like it could any minute. Our forecast is up to 15 inches. My dad and I are planning to leave at midnight tonight for PA. We figure by then the roads here shouldn't be too bad (even though it will still be snowing) and hopefully they'll be cleared further south too.

I'll be praying for you and your dad as you travel to PA!

I've been to Punxsutawney one time. We have groundhogs around our neighborhood. They are cute, but very destructive. They chewed off the wires in my neighbor's car. What a mess that was!

Thanks, Pammy Jo...we really need it! 🤗 Are you dug out there yet? Our plow truck has decided not to start again...it worked fine 2 days ago! 😤 Not sure if we're going to be able to get out now!

We have lots of groundhogs here too and they are my garden's worst enemy! We just watched the Punxsutawney ceremony and when they held up Phil, I made believe I had a gun and said, "Pow! Pow!" 🤣🤣🤣

So sorry to hear about your plow. Isn't that the way it always goes with mechanical stuff? When you need it most is when it lets you down.

The real Punxsutawney Phil lives in a man made tunnel/cage at the Punxsutawney Library! I suppose Phil is very well read! LOL!!! He is a cute little guy. When we had groundhog trouble in our neighborhood, my dad and several neighbors took care of the varmints with a .22 rifle...for real. I always felt bad, but everybody told me I would feel differently if they ever chewed through my car wires. Then I think I would be saying "Pow! Pow!" too!

Five of our neighbors were here this morning, plowing and shoveling. Two of them brought snow blowers, so we are taken care of now.🙏 I am grateful!

Pammy Jo

message 5388: by Joanna (new)

Joanna Yep, that's the way it always goes! 🙄🤣 Someone is supposed to come out this evening and again in the morning to plow for us but I'll believe it when I see it (we haven't had much luck with finding someone reliable!). If we leave at all on this trip, it won't be until daylight.

I'm so glad your neighbors were able to help you with the snow!

I think we'll have gotten at least 15 inches by the time it's over. But it's also blowing hard and there are drifts in the driveway 3 feet deep!

Joanna Ruth wrote: "😬*Ruth gobsmacked*

🤣🤣🤣
We're already postponing it too long. They wanted to go early this morning but we would have been driving right into the storm and weren't sure the highways further south would be cleared yet (we pass right through the area in NJ where they got 30 inches!). Then we planned to leave at midnight tonight, but now we can't get out, so it'll be daylight probably before we get going. They're going to a wedding which is on Thursday, so it's going to be quite a rushed trip to get there in time with the 16 hour drive tomorrow!

😂 That would be nice! I actually just got back in from clearing one side of the driveway. If it doesn't drift in again by morning we should be able to get out. Right now the precipitation has changed to sleet which is a blessing since it will keep the snow from drifting as much! We'll see what happens...if y'all don't hear from me for a few days, we made it out of the driveway! 🤗

I'll be praying you have a safe trip. Do be careful...schools are still closed today due to unsafe road conditions. They've been shut down all week! We officially ended up with 28 inches here!🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
