Thanks for responding - It's not one of the Trixie Belden ones (mainly because I've definitely read all of them!). But I see what you mean by the circle whatnot. In this case it was more as if 'Trixie' was in the circle. So I'm trying to force my brain to remember more details.. which has ended up with... MAYBE the girl was facing to the left??? ... MAYBE the cover was blue??? MAYBE the author is in the latter part of the alphabet (would be able to be more precise if I could track down a picture of my old school library!)
There's a Dawn in the BSC mysteries series, but I'm not sure any of them took place on a ship.https://www.goodreads.com/series/41345
Thanks for trying Anne & Rainbowheart! I'm thinking that the Polka Dot Private Eye and the BSC are aged too young.. I've found a list of various teen books from the 80s that I'll hunt through... and if it's not there, well I'll just have to track down a list from the 60s.. 70s... 90s... Pretty much I'll just keep hunting :D
Found it! The Mystery CruiseI kinda wonder if there were alternate editions because I do not remember the camera at all! But the tag line is exactly it!

I'm searching out a book I (once again did not exactly read but read the blurb on the back, thought hmmm I should get that next time.. and never did) last looked at 20 years ago (published prior to 1999) :D
Main details - Similar in vein to the Nancy Drew type mysteries. This one involved a young teen who I'm pretty sure was named Dawn. The cover had a circle with her in it - mainly from shoulders up. So she had short brown hair (I think!). I'm pretty sure she was investigating something happening on a ship.
But that's it. I'm hoping someone could recall/hunt out the cover because I'm certain I'll recognize it :)
