I don't remember her age and the book is probably for teens or adults.

This sounds similar to Mystery of the Strange Traveler by Phyllis A. Whitney. It's about a girl who wants to be a writer and goes to stay with a published author and soon after mysterious goings on start to happen.
According to Goodreads it was first published in 1949.
