Elizabeth (elizabeth_greece) | 1918 comments For debut book by an author, what about the case that their first publication was a short story or less than 150 pages, could we pick their first full length book or pick another author?
Also, how are you going o confirm that? Is the presence of the book in a list like this (https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/3...) enough?

message 307: by Jo * Smut-Dickted * (last edited Apr 30, 2020 12:51PM) (new)

Jo * Smut-Dickted * (josmut-dickted) | 332 comments Also can first debut book by a author be the first the author has published under a particular pen name?

Intoxicating for example is the first book this author has published in MM. Though on Goodreads it says she has published elsewhere in a different genre.

What I am looking for in the author's 'debut book' is their first published unique entity. If they initially had a short story in an anthology or online, you can disregard. Otherwise, the debut needs to qualify, if it doesn't you would need to find another author.

Lists will not work, too often they are not accurate. I will be looking at the list of works on the author's page to confirm their debut book unless one is listed on author's description.

No, it needs to be the first published work by the author, no matter the name.

Which book is it? There are GR Librarians here (I think) that can edit the page to add the page count.

It's Discretion by Karina Halle. There's only the page count for the paperback on here.

Erica So my book doesn't have a kindle entry at all, just paperback. I did indeed read the paperback, but I assumed there'd be a kindle or ebook entry as well. Apparently this version is only available in paperback. Can I use the paperback page count?

Yes, just link to Amazon - thanks!

Hopefully a librarian notices and gets the page numbers added. 😊

Yes, thanks for checking. Just add a note with your page count that there is no Kindle edition and that I said it was ok. (Otherwise I will forget when I go to check. 🤦🏻‍♀️)

I think you might have posted shortly after she left, as she posted task for other team and said wasn't going to wait for changes as had to get moving. So might not have seen yet.

message 333: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Hi Kat - just to double-check: unless you specify a need for MPG, then a tag or list is enough?

Also, the book I am looking at has the following:
Publisher note: this is a highly expanded, completely re-written version of the free short that was previously available under the same title.
The free short story doesn't appear on the editions for the book on GR (no idea where that is).

Am I OK to use the first edition of the Kindle version?

Correct to the first part - if it isn't specified MPG, it doesn't have to be. (It's just way easier for everyone if it is! 😂)

I would love to say yes to this, but the title of your book is three words. I couldn't find any evidence that the books were by the same author, that might make a difference if that info was available.
