Instead, they could be made into a list.

Thanks for the response.
The manual says "Imprints and other unrelated collections of works (usually by multiple authors) are not series. They can be grouped with a Listopia list, or the collection/imprint information can be listed in the edition field, but they should not be grouped into a series, or listed on a book's title line." [source]
Is this where you're getting that from? The wording seems unclear as this isn't an "unrelated collection." Has this issue come up before? Would be good to get the manual updated to address this more clearly.

Thanks for the response.

Actually, the next paragraph in the manual is more relevant: "To be a series, books should have characters and/or universes in common."

Thanks for the response R.
Yeah, but the "as a general rule" bit removes clarity. Especially when what they use to illustrate the point is not a series of "the works of ______" but rather general imprints which involve multiple unrelated authors and stories connected only by a loose similarity such as being "classics" or a certain kind of romance.
A "The complete works of _____________" seems to be quite different from what is described there. If they are not currently supposed to be series', it seems a flaw. But even that's not clear to me. Would love to see someone at the top give more clear directive on this so we can do whatever is decided consistently across the site.
The complete works of an author would not constitute a series on Goodreads. Not unless all of said works had common characters or were set in a shared universe.
That does not seem to be the case for Poe, with the exception noted re Dupin above.

Thanks for the clarification. Are you able to have the librarian guidelines adjusted to be more clear on that point?

Hi Jason
You can always post in this thread. https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... if you are uncertain if something is a series or not. Even reading through the thread may give you some insights.
If you want to suggest alterations to the manual I would use the Contact Us link at the top of this group.
So while the Griswold edition is still separate, at least one other series has been combined. There is the Raven series. And I believe another one. Does someone have the power to find out who did all this and just reverse everything they did? And maybe put them on probation? This is an enormous amount of work thrown away carelessly.
Thanks in advance.
