I've found the same thing. I actually eat better (mostly) at work because I only bring a few limited things. At home I always have baking around.

I have made myself (and have stuck to it) only eat what I would eat at work while I'm working. Funny thing, though, I don't seem to be as hungry, generally, so I'm not even eating as many snacks.

But, I also have a bit more time for cooking, so eating "better" things while at home as well as "at work" might be helping me feel more full. (I can even cook at lunch!)

I think mine will get better. I have about a 1 hr, 15 min commute each way when I read. That's gone.

With the extra time (lack of commute), I've mostly been doing extra housework at home, some things I've put off. Plus, I'm cooking more. I am hoping with some of the housework out of the way (till I decide to do it again), I can use the extra time for reading.

I don't drive, so normally I do walk a lot. Hard to motivate myself to leave the house, though, when I don't have to.

It's good I got that (second-hand, manual) treadmill recently, though. Without the commute, that is another thing I am doing a bit of. I'm so out of shape (always have been, even when I was thin), and despite the lots of walking each day outside, this treadmill is way tougher than that! Slight incline + manual!!!!! I can't do very long before I have to stop. It is a way for me to keep listening to my audio book, though - along with housework.

LOL!

I don't think I've eaten a bologna sandwich... since high school? Elementary? (I graduated from high school 30 (yikes!!!!) years go!)

ETA: Thinking about it, I think I did buy bologna when I was in university (at least early on). It was cheap and easy for sandwiches (and fried. :-) )

Hahaha! I have been zooming left and right over here. I haven't had any issues with it at all and have been super impressed with how easy it is to set up and use. Of course, I have not had 5 year olds on it with me. lol!

My book club experience with it went really well, just a totally different dynamic than meeting in person of course.

Yup, he's a parts guy. Cars are still on the road, and people still need parts for their cars.

Travelzoo (A big travel deal company) published an article yesterday
20 Amazing Places You can Visit From Home

I've been having fun looking through these things, and getting some culture from home. Especially love the penguin cam at the Monteray Aquarium!

Also the Met is doing
daily free streams of operas

Playbill has a daily roundup of activities that can be streamed. Anything from live dance classes for kids, story times, specials streams of performances, shows.

Karin | 9252 comments And the Boston Symphony Orchestra is doing daily streams at 10 am Eastern Daylight Savings Time https://www.bso.org/brands/bso/media/... it's working with PBS, so not sure if it works everywhere or just for the local PBS stations.

But when I searched with BSO, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra is also doing this. They are also good, but for those who don't already know, the one in Boston is one of the top orchestras in the US. My son has his own ranking system which is based in part, but not in whole, on the brass section.

Amy | 12953 comments My challah bake online stunk- but I feel grateful to be well and happy and to be pissed at small things. When so many are suffering, this is something I can later look back on and laugh. It was false advertising. They had me waiting there with my cute little apron, and all the ingredients and supplies, and in a pandemic no less. It turns out that 400 of us were thinking we were making these today. And then she starts going so fast and telling us what to do, and saying wait 90 minutes here, at 60 minutes there, and overnight and tomorrow. And I was like wait a second. So I dumped all the ingredients together, I decided to wait 90 minutes, and I’ll do the rest online with the help of the Internet or my friend Stephanie. I don’t know how to mold or braid this thing, which probably isn’t very good because I dumped all that stuff in without waiting. But I think you’re supposed to tell people so they don’t block out a couple of hours and work the week around this to find out that they need eight hours over 24 hour period. I wouldn’t have signed up for that. So sitting outside in the sunshine. We’ll see if this turns into anything. Might as well read city of girls!

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12651 comments I am sorry about the Challah-but you are right, down the road you will laugh about it. I am a pretty good cook, but a baker I am not-so no help here, sorry

Ah, so frustrating! I have baked many kinds of bread, although not challah. Many recipes take a very long time and include overnight waiting. I braided bread once and decided not to do it twice since it didn't last long! But it's fun to do at least once. I don't bake any kind of bread anymore, but it was a lot of fun for the years I did (well, most of the time).

Nowadays you can probably find youtube videos that show you how to braid it, but I had to rely on drawings in a book.

The best bakers are part mad scientist, or so I read in a book. I can't remember the right book--the title I think of is by the wrong author.

What a contrast to Trump talking about getting everyone back to work by Easter. And something about packed churches would be a beautiful thing. Wait, what?

Well given he is also promoting that some need to die in order to save the economy, I am sure in his tiny mind he thinks this would just hasten it along so he can manage to get re-elected on basis of strong economy in spite of Corona. Now there are a lot of problems with this. But the one you would think would occur to him is that a large part of his base will be those packing those reopened churches, being exposed, becoming very ill, and many dying.

100%.
His bread and butter has always been the economy, but this is not a decision in his hands. Even if we open the country back up, if it's too soon we will be right back here in quarantine again and the economy is still fucked.

Oh, I think of the I LOVE LUCY episode when she wanted to bake bread and the loaf got so large it took up practically her entire kitchen!

message 76: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12953 comments We actually laughed about that endlessly! But guess what? The challahs turned out delicious! And with all the suffering in the world right now, this fiasco was a quite minor matter.
