Jessica (jollybookshelf) Week 6: A book written by an author under 30
February 5-11, 2015

Many people think of authors as old and dead, but there are many young and very well alive authors telling their stories! Find a book to read that has been authored by someone under 30.

**Recent/modern works are preferred, but as long as the book was written when the author was 30 at the time of writing/publishing, then it will work for this challenge.**

How to Create a Topic:
1. Choose your book and create a topic in the appropriate folder using your book's author and title.

2. In the body of your post, comment about why you chose this book. Have you read it before? What are your expectations?

3. Feel free to use the thread as a way to update the group on your progress. Also, when you are finished reading, add a small review and your thoughts about the week's challenge.

4. Comment on everyone else's posts as well! Participation and group involvement will make this challenge so much fun!

**If you chose the same book as another group member, do not create a duplicate thread.**

Week 6 Suggestions:
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley (age 20)
Story of My Life by Helen Keller (age 22)
Eragon by Christopher Paolini (age 18/19)
The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton (age 16-18)

Can it count if it's co-authored and one of them is under 30. I can't seem to find a book I want to read in which the author is under 30. Seems that none of the books I already own qualify. :-(

Kody Keplinger is another author for this week's challenge. Her book The DUFF: Designated Ugly Fat Friend is being made into a movie starring the amazing Mae Whitman.

I'm so wanting to see that movie! Looks god!!

Meran Max Booth III is only 21 I believe, and has written several books already. I was lucky to receive a free copy of Toxicity, here thru the Giveaways, and I gave it 4 stars.. he's a horror writer, and he does use swear words, so if that scares you, don't read him.

He is, however, very funny!

Tina (tjlich) Hannah wrote: "Also, Pierce Brown is 27 and he just won the Goodread's Debut Author award for his novel, Red Rising."

When I started this challenge, a little late, I'd say mid January, I was already reading Red Rising. I was finished and had planned to join a discussion on for week 4 (book published this year) but then I saw a fair amount of people were reading The Girl on the Train for week 4 and I read that one. So now for week 6, I am going to read Golden Son, the second book of the Red Rising series. I'm so excited too because I loved Red Rising. I marked it as a favorite and I don't do that with too many books.

Are you going to read Red Rising this week, Hannah?

message 18: by Ed (new)

Ed Lehman | 48 comments Will James Joyce Dubliners work? He turned 30 the year it was published in 1912...so, he must have been younger when he wrote it.

It is really open to your interpretation, Ed. If you feel that it should count and can make a case for it, I don't see the harm. It's about challenging yourself and having fun - you're the only one who knows the best way to do that. ;)

message 20: by Hannah (new)

Hannah Norman (hannahnorman) | 49 comments I did read Red Rising for this week. I am going to read Golden Son for the week with a book with a color in the title.
