Joanna | 170 comments Hi, I'm Joanna, a librarian from CT. This is my first time doing this challenge, which I learned about through my library.

message 2258: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 2 comments Hi everyone, my name is Brittany. I'm from New Orleans and just moved to Massachusetts. I study biology and have only recently gotten back into reading as a hobby after a long hiatus. Last year I challenged myself to read 15 books after only reading about 2-3 books a year for about 6 years. I ended up reading 32! This year my goal is 100.

I joined this challenge pretty late (had no idea it existed), but I just finished going through my reads of 2022 so far and adding them to the appropriate categories! I'm excited to make more progress and maybe post some weekly updates.

abbie (lunathiareads) | 1 comments Hi everyone, I'm Abbie. I'm from England and I read all kinds of books with a love for Fantasy and Romance. I'm always interested in talking about all things books, and I can't wait to get some book recs and get to know everyone :)

message 2263: by Katya (new)

Katya | 2 comments Hello everyone! I'm Katya. I'm a Canadian living currently in Portugal, where I grew up. Life gets in the way so even though I find company amongst my books, I fail to read as much as I would like too! Finding a group with a monthly challenge will be good for me as it will keep me motivated! Fantasy and Historical Fiction ate what I prefer but i'll read anything if it's good :)

message 2264: by Bea (new)

Bea | 649 comments Hello! My name is Bea. I live in the USA...currently in South Carolina. I moved here in 2014 with my husband who has since died (5 years ago). I live with an elderly rescue Labrador Pit Mix (about 14) who has arthritis. Oh, and I am in my 7th decade of life!

I love reading. However, I am working at rounding out my life with activities as well as with books. Although, I am the person who always has a book with me.

I joined this group mainly to get the 2023 Popsugar list that was mentioned in another group that I am a member of. However, today, I just read the Thanksgiving weekly check-in...and well, I do hope to become a more active member after all. Looking forward to learning how all this works.

message 2265: by Shannon (new)

Shannon | 5 comments Hi Everyone :-)
I am Shannon and I live near Bath, UK with my boyfriend and our cat Dotty.

I have eclectic taste in books and will give any genre a go :-) I discovered the Popsugar challenge and this group during Summer 2022. I have guided my reading selections by using 'Books to read in a lifetime' lists on the web and whilst searching for a different kind of challenge, Popsugar caught my eye :-)

This will be my first Popsugar annual challenge and I am very excited to be a part of it! My Excel spreadsheet is ready to go! :-)

Chelsea Skinner (chelspels) | 7 comments Hello All! My name is Chelsea and I live in Surry, VA, USA. I am married to a lovely man named William and I have two cats, Loki and Missy.

I am excited that I found this group as I've always wanted to do the PopSugar challenge but never actually...did it. So here's to trying new things!

message 2267: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi,
I'm Jenny, live in Dorset England with my parents and ginger cat Jaffa, I'm 32 but unemployed as I have various medical conditions and at the moment they are restricting me from work.

I actually started the challenge this year - got 2 prompts left, but have only just decided to find the Goodreads group! I am already in the Facebook group though.

message 2268: by Immy (new)

Immy | 7 comments Hi all, I'm Immy! I live in Manchester in the UK with a house full of flatmates and a hamster called Nora.

I'm looking forward to the 2023 challenge. I'm not organised at all though.

message 2269: by Alicja (new)

Alicja | 2 comments Hello everyone, I'm Alicja! I live in Sweden and have just now found out about this group and wanted to join to challenge myself to read more. Have recently gotten really back into reading! The idea of fitting books to specific prompts is just really appealing to me :) Though I'm a slow reader so I definitely won't finish the whole challenge. But I'm looking forward to participating at least a bit in 2023!

message 2270: by Caitlin (new)

Caitlin Ryan | 5 comments I'm Caitlin from sunny Dublin! I hope this might push me to read more as I've a competitive streak, but am a slow reader so we'll see, won't we!

message 2271: by Sunshine (new)

Sunshine (sunshinemagik) hello all! I'm Kim from Sunny Florida. I've been doing reading challenges every year since 2015 I did Popsugar A few years ago for the first time and then for 2022. I like doing challenges because I tend to read through or for genres all the time and it helps me diversify my reading. I've found some books I really love that I never would have read if not for challenges.

message 2272: by K (new)

K Wheeler (kwheeler) | 1 comments Hi All,

My name is K (they/them pronouns) and I'm from the Seattle area, Washington State, USA. I've been a part of this group for a few years but never engaged or actually stuck to the challenges, but I'm hoping to change that this year! I mostly read via audiobook because of my disability. I'm hoping to do all 50 this year!

message 2273: by Terris (last edited Dec 27, 2022 08:56AM) (new)

Terris Hello! My name is Terri, but I go by Terris on GR. I have been a GR member since 2013 and enjoy reading, commenting, and discussing books of all kinds! I have been a constant reader all my life and like to think of myself as "well read," therefore, I read almost anything! I'm always looking for recommendations. I find that books help me to connect with others which is a thing I love.

I also love reading challenges! So, when my friend, Shaina, who is a member here, suggested I join this group, I said "Sounds good to me!"
I plan to go for the "regular" challenge and am looking forward to beginning my 2023 reading!!!

message 2274: by Rona (last edited Dec 27, 2022 06:39PM) (new)

Rona (ronadareader) Hey

I am Rona, I participated in some challenges before and I was never able to complete them. I am going to try again in 2023. I am from Ireland.

I am going to try the "regular" challenge again, and so I look forward to finding more books to read :D

I’m Camille and I enjoy reading books. I enjoy doing challenges which helps me to broaden my reading genres. I’m looking forward to the 2023 challenge.

message 2276: by Laura Ruth (new)

Laura Ruth Loomis | 235 comments Hi all! I'm Laura, social worker posting from California. Science fiction & fantasy are my passion, but I read a little of everything. I managed to complete the 2022 PopSugar challenge, and am using December for long tomes that I didn't get to during the year. January I dive into the 2023 challenge.

Thank goodness Goodreads helps with lists for the trickier categories. (A book written during NaNoWriMo? How would I know?) Anyone have a good book where the author's initials are L.L.?

message 2277: by Margaux (new)

Margaux (margsvdv) | 1 comments Hey hey. I am Margaux and I recently got back into reading (October of this year). 25 years old, from Belgium. I like romance books, fantasy, ya and thrillers. This will be my very first reading challenge ever so it'll be fun doing it with all you guys; looking forward to it!

message 2278: by Cadi (new)

Cadi | 22 comments Hi, I'm Cadi. I live in North Carolina and am a recently graduated social worker. This is my first time attempting the Popsugar challenge. I like the idea of using the prompts to look for books that maybe I wouldn't have read otherwise. And, for the discussions!

message 2280: by Kate (new)

Kate S (katems87) | 2 comments Hi all! I'm Kate, a 35-year-old youth worker from Queensland, Australia. Fantasy and sci-fi are normally my go-to reads, but I'm also partial to a good murder mystery too.

I joined this group last year, but didn't participate in the challenge because I didn't think I'd have enough time. I'm ready to go for this year's challenge though, and have already started my first book! :)

message 2281: by Kiersten (new)

Alex McGannon | 8 comments Hi I'm Alex and I live in NYC. Stumbled upon this group and thought it would be fun to join! The prompts seem fun and I already have a lineup of books for the year that will check a few boxes :)

message 2283: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi everyone, I'm Jess and I like in Central California with my husband and our pup. I love this challenge, I've completed the last two years and this year I hope to be more active in the group. My first love genre has been horror since I was old enough to read Goosebumps. I love this list because it helps me get outside my comfort zone! Happy 2023 reading!

message 2284: by Shanoe (new)

Shanoe | 9 comments Hi there :)
A friend convinced me to do this year's Popsugar Challenge. I already participated twice a few years ago and I don't know why I didn't continue because I really enjoyed reading books that I wouldn't have touched without the challenge.
I love all genres except of horror. Love triangles, romances ending with a proposal after just three weeks of knowing each other and too much battles in fantasy/scifi are not my cup of tea.
What else? I'm 37 and from Austria.
Thanks for providing so many suggestions on the different dares :)

Elia | 4 comments Hi! Signing up though I always end up failing! Haha!
I'm Elia from Arizona, I'm a youth and teen services librarian, and I mostly read youth books, teen books and graphic novels.

Bluebelle-the-Inquisitive (Catherine) (bluebelle-the-inquisitive) | 49 comments Hi all. I'm Catherine, KT if you want. I'm 35 and from Melbourne, Australia. I'm a trained librarian but currently unemployed. I found this challenge last year but was overwhelmed by the sheer number of prompts on the list. This year I decided to give it a go.

I like some of the prompts in the list and have ideas. But there are some I will definitely be coming for my fellow readers for help on.

message 2288: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laumullz93) | 1 comments Hi everyone! I’m Lauren, I’m 29 and live just north of Boston, Massachusetts. I’m originally from Southern Maine. I love to read creative nonfiction, fantasy sci-fi, LGBT+ and many other things! I’m looking to getting more into New England based novels and New England historical books as I’m passionate about the area.

message 2289: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen (kahunnic) | 1 comments Hi everyone! I'm Kathleen, I'm from NC and a recent college grad. I'm trying to get back into reading for fun and figured this challenge would help me find new genres and motivate me to get out of my comfort zone!

message 2290: by Anne Hawn (last edited Jan 17, 2023 09:46AM) (new)

Anne Hawn Smith (hawnsmith) | 40 comments Hi everyone! I live in Fernandina Beach, Florida which is on Amelia Island. I've done this challenge for a number of years and I really enjoy it. I'm looking forward to reading 35 books for this year. I may change that number, however as the books are especially good. The last few years the tone of the books has been too much like a Sociology class and there was no way that I wanted to read all of them. I like to try to read all 50 books, but it would be nice to have the choice on some of them to substitute a more palatable book.

message 2291: by Rachel Anne (new)

Rachel Anne (rakados) | 34 comments Hi everyone!
I'm Rachel-Anne. I have intended to do this challenge over the last few years, but due to some medical issues, I really lost my focus on reading in the last year, and I just wasn't organized enough the year before that.

I'm a big fan of the planner community, and I bought a series of stickers for this challenge from a shop called The Sticker Party (I highly recommend you check it out) and I finally got my reading plan together. I can usually read at least 75-100 books per year, plus TONS of fanfic, so I didn't think 50 books would be too difficult, but I'm excited to read different books I may have not normally chosen for myself because of this challenge.

message 2293: by Heather (new)

Heather Berg | 3 comments Hi all! Heather here - last year of grad school in Michigan before moving to NYC this Fall. I was always a reader growing up and through high school and even taught 5th grade English for a few years but, well, life has gotten in the way and I’ve fallen out of my reading habit. I’ve just recently picked it back up again, and want to keep with the momentum. I found this challenge and loved the concept to add some structure to my reading. So far, I’m two books in. The first book I read this year was A Flicker in the Dark, which was by a debut author. Deliciously twisty, and was a great "gateway" book for getting me back into a regular reading rhythm. I’m currently reading Book Lovers (felt appropriate right?), which is set on a vacation. So far, really finding myself liking the two main characters and Emily Henry has some lovely quotable lines. I always have a hard time choosing what to read next so I think the prompts from this will be a great guide. Looking forward to reading and discussing with all you other bookworms!

message 2294: by Cornerofmadness (new)

Cornerofmadness | 806 comments Dana here. I've been doing this challenge for a handful of years and I'm looking forward to reading what I've picked out of my tbr pile for this. I read a lot of SF/F, horror/UF and mysteries. I'm a foot/ankle doctor who now teaches biomedical at a small rural college

message 2295: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (cindylunares) | 5 comments Hello! It's been a while since I did a challenge like PopSugar. I typically stick to numbers and A-Z. But I thought it would be fun to mix it up. I find doing the challenges motivates me to keep reading and excites me as I look for new books to fill challenges.

message 2296: by Pradeep (new)

message 2297: by Ruth Anne (new)

Ruth Anne (motherhill816gmailcom) | 3 comments Hello from the Northwest corner of our nation. I'm Ruth Anne, a retired minister, quilter, reader of great and not so great books, and Grammie to the two most awesome, super brilliant, and talented little girls in the world. I'm still in the 'hunker down and this too shall pass' mode of the past 2 plus years so I've gotten back into the habit of reading. I've fulfilled (and surpassed) the Goodreads Challenge the past few years and am excited to stumble on to the Ultimate Popsugar Challenge. I enjoy history, historical novels, true crime, mysteries, spiritual and religious writings the most. My local book group stretches my mind with other genres but so far, fantasy and SciPhi are still beyond my comprehension and comfort zone. I'm well on my way of fulfilling the GoodReads Challenge for 2023 but I'm baffled as to where I find the list of suggested topics for Popsugar? Part of this year's challenge for myself is to read 1) a book in which quilting is a large part of the story and 2) books written by people of color or are stories featuring African American characters and culture. Any recommendations you all want to send my way, I'll welcome with an open mind. Now, it's time a grab a mug of hot tea, my current book and head for bed and the down comforter! To our members and friends living in the deep freeze zone of the nation right now, stay safe and stay inside! Looks like it's a perfect weekend to grab a few books and snuggle down for the duration.

Ruth Anne (motherhill816gmailcom) | 3 comments Hi Leah, Many thanks for your very prompt and helpful response. I'm sure I'll eventually get the hang of this group. I'm definitely a 'dinosaur' when it comes to computers, social media, electronics, etc. I'd happily go back to the 20th century as far as communicating goes! (Except I was sure grateful for ZOOM, FaceTime, etc. during the dark days of 2020, 2021 and 2022! Anyway, I can now get busy planning my line up of reading for the next few weeks. Again, thanks for your response to my inquiry.
