Bonnie | 1 comments Hi! I'm Bonnie and I'm from Kansas in the US. I haven't done any kind of reading challenge before, but I'm excited to try this this year! I'm really looking forward to try reading new books that I wouldn't normally pick out for myself.

Toni | 5 comments hi, I'm from Malta and this will be the first time that I'm attempting the popsugar challenge.

message 2203: by Maria (new)

Maria Hi, I'm Maria and I'm from Spain. I have never done a challenge like this, I'm more of a mood reader but I'm pushing myself to explore other fields and types of books more out of my comfort zone, and this seemed like the perfect way to do so :)

message 2204: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa | 3 comments Hi all. I’m Alyssa! I’m relatively new to goodreads, and new to this group. I thought it’d be fun to branch out from my typical genres and follow along with this group. I look forward to some new reading recommendations!

message 2205: by Anne Hawn (last edited Jan 04, 2022 10:03PM) (new)

Anne Hawn Smith (hawnsmith) | 40 comments Hi, I'm Anne. I'm from Florida and I have done Popsugar for about 5 years. Last year I read 365 books, but I don't ever expect to do that again, I have health problems, so I hardly went anywhere because of Covid and since I read and knit at the same time, I got lots of knitting done also.

I am going to try to read 35 books this year for Popsugar and especially use some of my long physical books for some of the prompts. My shelves are just stuffed and I'd like to make room for some new books. I love Popsugar because it makes me try books that I wouldn't ordinarily pick.

message 2206: by Rimjhim (new)

Rimjhim Kashyap | 1 comments Hello, I am Rimjhim from India and this year I am trying to get out of the reading slump. I discovered this challenge and decided to try it. I am not really sure how many prompts I will cover but I want to do my best and it is a great challenge for reading different types of books.

message 2207: by Mandy (last edited Jan 06, 2022 01:48PM) (new)

Mandy (djinnia) | 477 comments Hi, I'm Mandy. I've been trying to do this challenge for a couple of years now, but never finish. I'm hoping joining the group will help me finish this year.

I work at our local library. I run the children's department. So my range is from board books to ya, including manga.

I'm a book dragon. I read 500+ books last year. Many of them manga because I'm also such a nerd.

If you want a recommendation for a manga series, let me know and I'll find some in your genre.

I love talking about and getting recommendations for anime and light novels as well.

message 2208: by Brooke (new)

Brooke (byuspeh) | 2 comments Hi everyone! I'm Brooke, and I joined as I am trying to read more overall books as well as a wider variety of books this year.

I used to read like crazy in high school but have dropped off with reading as I've gotten older.

Matt Carl (pressenter) | 33 comments Hi all. I’ve been on Goodreads a long time, but this is my first time trying the Popsugar challenge after a Facebook friend recommended it. It looks like a lot of fun. I like to read as widely as possible, though I think I lean most heavily to SFF, and maybe nonfiction.

Okay, cool. All manga has a rating from the publisher usually on the back. Rightstufanime.com also has a good rating system too. I’m not into yaoi/bl or yuri, but there’s a good selection of that too if you look at rightstuf.

A married 58-year-old customer service representative for the U.S government, I read on average about 40-50 books a year; usually nonfiction, classics, westerns, and anything else I find interesting.

I've done some reading challenges through my local library system, but this is my first time participating in this challenge! I enjoy reading as well as checking things off lists so I'm sure that will help drive me to complete the challenge.

message 2232: by Jane (new)

Jane (juniperlake) | 54 comments Hi, I'm Jane from Wyncote, PA. This is my third year of doing the challenge. I love the site because it gets me reading outside of my wheelhouse. I love family novels and particular authors and poetry. I belong to two different book clubs and read books that we select together. I've read books I'd never have read except for the fact that the authors, genres or books are unfamiliar to me. If the prompts feel random, I often read a children's picture book...that is how I found Spork, a picture book with cutlery on the cover. It is FABULOUS...and is "Multi-Cutlery." I just finished Hamnet, so The Best American Essays of 2021, which are exceptional and occasionally hilarious, fits the random prompt: A book that begins with the last letter of the book I just read. This time, the site isn't registering any of the books I've read. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I signed up on Jan.2, 2022. Sara responded to my question, but I still didn't understand what I was doing wrong. Anyone out there who could help?

message 2233: by Jane (new)

Jane (juniperlake) | 54 comments Mary Ann wrote: "I read through the Bible & counted it as one book but I wish I would've counted them separately!"

Well, you won't find "cutlery" on any of the books of the Bible. I suggest you find "Spork" in your local library and read that. Jane (131) on the list.

Chiara_B (indiana_books) | 2 comments Hello! My name's Chiara, I'm 32 y.o. and I'm from a little town near Florence (Tuscany, Italy). This is my first year with a PopSugar Reading Challenge and I hope it'll be a wonderful occasion for reading some new genres/authors and beautiful books. As a side quest I'd love to fulfill all the prompts from the past years challenges, obviously not all of them in only one year!
See you!

message 2241: by Chloé (new)

Chloé - My Bookish Rendez-Vous | 4 comments Hi! My name is Chloe, I'm 23 years-old and I'm an avid reader. This is my first year participating in the challenge, and I love the prompts! Though some may be particularly challenging. My comfort zone is set deeply into the lands of fantasy books, but I'm willing to reach farther! I'll be quite busy and in need of "comfort books" 'til June because I'm preparing a hard exam. But after June, I'll tackle the prompts I find most challenging! :)

message 2242: by Noemie (new)

Noemie (noemiesreadingcorner) Hi, I'm Noémie and I'm 23 years old. I decided to follow this challenge so I could diversify my reading and find books I usually wouldn't pick up! I would love to complete all prompts this year

message 2243: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 1 comments I am writing to invite you to participate in an academic research study, focusing on the effect Goodreads has on the romance reading community. My name is Sarah Smith. I’m a student at York College of Pennsylvania and I am studying the Goodreads romance reading community to better understand the effect the platform has on romance readers, and fill in the gap present in current literature regarding Goodreads. This study is low-risk, and completely voluntary, consisting of a one-hour focus group conducted via Zoom.

There are four options for focus groups. The options are:

Session 1: Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at 10 AM Eastern
Session 2: Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at 4:30 PM Eastern

To participate in this study, you must have a valid email address and access to Zoom. If interested, please reply to this message or contact me via email (ssmith117@ycp.edu) by [3/1/22] to learn more about this study and select a time for the focus group that is convenient for you.

Your information will be kept completely confidential and has the potential to expand our knowledge of Goodreads and the romance community at large. (This study has been approved by the York College of Pennsylvania Institutional Review Board, approval number 22SP010).

Sincerely,

Sarah Smith

message 2244: by Madison (new)

Madison Tomberlin | 1 comments Hello! My name is Madison. I am from Valdosta, Georgia in the United States. I found this challenge from a coworker where I work at the library. I am excited for this challenge, as I know it will expand my sights into other genres, rather than just fiction, YA fiction/fantasy and romance.

message 2245: by Cathy (new)

Cathy Hunter | 10 comments Hi all, I'm from Australia and challenge myself to read one book a week, or 52 each year as some take longer than a week and others are done in a day.
I'm using this challenge to help me decide which books to read each year but I am also a big fan of series and also like to finish at least a couple of books from each of the series I am currently reading each year which means I find myself with quite a few extras.
As a result it is unlikely I will be able to complete all 50 of the challenge reads unless by some miracle they all fall nicely into a category. Therefore I am going to aim to alternate my reads meaning I will look to finish at least 25 off the Popsugar list each year.

message 2246: by Lana (new)

Lana Jackson | 2 comments Hi Everyone, I'm Lana, I am from sunny Queensland Australia. I have four children my youngest is 9, my oldest is 20 and i have two in-between, I have joined this group as I love to read, and I love to read books that I wouldn't normally pick so I thought this group would be great for me. I am aiming to read 18 books this year, I would love to read 40 but I just don't have the time, hopefully i will work my way up to reading a book a week instead of a book a month.

Stacy | 1 comments Hi all, I'm Stacy. I love reading, and so why not try this out? Sounds fun!

message 2248: by Elia (new)

message 2249: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Garcia | 1 comments Hi everyone!

My name is Lauren. I'm from the US but have been living in central Mexico for the past 9 years. I'm an English teacher and also write cozy mysteries. I have a human child and a fur child, a husky named Susi.

I love reading, talking about books, hearing about books, and meeting people who love books.

I'm visually impaired and completely colorblind, so I read almost exclusively kindle or audiobooks. It's just easier.

I am excited about the challenge and was surprised by how many I'd already read.

message 2250: by Maggie (new)

Maggie Hi everyone! I’m Maggie and enjoy reading primarily women’s fiction along with historical fiction and thrillers. There are so many great books out there, I’m excited to hear about what you are all reading!
