Despina (tosodoula) | 24 comments Hello, I'm Despina. I am from Greece and I read mostly English literature, rarely translated. I feel kind of disappointed in myself for dismissing greek authors, but I'm mostly a fantasy reader and my country hasn't much to offer in this genre. This is my first time participating in a reading challenge and I plan to take it slow and play it sort of safe. My goal is to read 15 books this year, but I hope I'll find motivation to surpass this number though :)

Elizabeth Singleton | 4 comments Hello! I'm Elizabeth from Houston. I'm a high school English teacher! I love to read, but I'm a VERY slow reader, so this challenge will be entirely audiobook for me. I'm so glad I found this group so that I can find titles for all of the categories. It's definitely a daunting list when you've never done a reading challenge before.

Lisette Woest-appeldoorn (lizsavage) | 12 comments Hi,

I am Lisette. I am from Arnhem in The Netherlands and I am a total bookwurm.
I did this challenge for the first time two years ago. What I love about this challenge "It gets me out of my comfort zone as well as it has subjects I am very comfortable with".
I like discovering new authors, new subjects.

For this years prompt "a book from a previous years prompt I choose - read a play".

Lark of The Bookwyrm's Hoard (lark_bookwyrmshoard) | 25 comments I just realized I've been posting questions and suggestions, and never introduced myself. Hi, everybody! (waves) I'm Lark, and I blog about books at The Bookwyrm's Hoard, where I also host The Backlist Reader Challenge. (You're welcome to join; it partners very well with almost any other challenge.)

I'm a lifelong bookwyrm and spend a lot of my spare time reading. Since I discovered audiobooks, I can "read" even while doing housework or knitting! I read in my work life, too; I freelance as a back-of-the-book indexer, creating indexes for scholarly and general-market books.

I've joined the POPSUGAR challenge this year for fun and to expand my reading horizons a bit. I don't intend to stress about whether I check off all the prompts. I may choose to "double up" (use one book for multiple prompts), but I haven't decided yet.

Sarah | 9 comments Hi everyone! I'm Sarah. I'm 22, living in Long Island, New York and attending grad school for special education in New Jersey. I'll be graduating and looking for jobs this year, but one thing I have learned throughout my five years of school is how important it is to find time to do the things you love... a.k.a. reading! I've been a reader as soon as I learned how, but this year I made a new bookstagram (@sarahs.shelves if you're interested) and am so excited to connect with more people like myself!

Hey,

When I saw your name I was like "huh, Despina is doing this challenge as well". Turns out you are an other Despina than the one popping up in my mind.
My daughter's best friend is called Despina. Which is a very unuasal name in the Netherlands.
Is it more common in Greece?

Have fun reading.

Jonathan (csucichang) | 10 comments Hey everybody, I'm Jon! I'm from California, I'm 33, and I'm a teacher. A coworker told me about this reading challenge! I haven't done something like this in a long time, so here I am!

message 1658: by Gabi (new)

Gabi Ionescu | 8 comments Hi everyone! I am Gabi, from Bucharest, Romania.

This is my first year doing the Ultimate Popsugar Reading Challenge and I'm looking forward to getting out of my reading comfort zone a bit. I've already tackled 5 of the prompts, and I aim to complete both the regular and the advanced challenge.

I am glad to be a part of this group and I wish good luck to everyone completing their own challenges!

message 1659: by Mrs (new)

Mrs Heidrich | 6 comments Hi everyone! My name is Colleen, I live in Southwest BC (Canada) and I'm a K-7 teacher librarian. I found this challenge through a friend of a friend. I do read a lot and thought this would be a fun way to challenge myself to read some things that I might not normally read and to be able to chat about great books as well!

Have already read some of the great books ideas and look forward to more!

message 1660: by Marcia (new)

Marcia Simpson (marciaokla) | 8 comments Hello, my name is Marcia and I'm from Oklahoma. I work from home and also homeschool my two teenage children and love to read but don't have as much time as I'd like. I've hosted a monthly book club at my home for the last 7 years and we decided to use the Popsugar Reading Challenge to spice things up. I was surprised that I read more than my goal last year and decided I would see how many I could do this year. So far I've found time to read 2 so maybe I can do it!

message 1661: by Ketutar (new)

Ketutar Jensen | 98 comments Hi!
I'm Ketutar and right now I'm in the mood of reading, and I can't resist a challenge. So "I'll partake in ALL the challenges TO THE EXTREME AND BEYOND!!!!"
Now, I'm notorious DNF - I don't remember ever finishing any challenge I rush into. But - we'll see how far I get. At least I will be reading some books :-D

message 1662: by Jess (new)

Jess Reichard | 5 comments Hello! My name is Jess, I’m 20 years old and I live in South Florida. I work as a pharmacy technician, and I can only hope that I do a better job of reading than I did last year! I’m hoping that having this challenge/ checklist might inspire me to actively find time to sit and read! Looking forward to some interesting and fun stories this year!

message 1663: by Linda (new)

Linda (linda549) Hi, all! I've vowed to read more this year. I retired in mid-2017. My reading time while I was working was mostly during my lunch hour, and listening to audiobooks on my commute. Now that I'm home all the time, I've found that I need to actually set aside a time every day to devote to reading, or it won't get done. Ready to complete this challenge.

message 1664: by Sassafrass (new)

Sassafrass (sass-a-frass) | 6 comments Hi everyone! I actually found this challenge on Popsugar last year but didn't end up joining. I've decided to take the plunge for 2019!

I'm a doctor, a mom, a wife, and a romance addict. I try to expand my horizons a bit every year and I'm hoping that this year won't be any different. I think this challenge is exactly what I need.

message 1665: by Tonya (last edited Jan 18, 2019 10:08PM) (new)

Tonya | 2 comments Hello my name is Tonya this will be my first year acctually atempting & hopefully finishing the PopSugar Reading Challenge. I've looked at them before but never tried one. I'm excited to see if I can get all 50 finished. I'm 30 & still love YA & almost only YA lol. I have 2 4yr olds. My other hobby besides reading is diamond painting which I love to listen to audiobooks while I'm doing so I get to do both my hobbies at once.

message 1666: by jaadhimalli (new)

jaadhimalli | 10 comments Hi, I am Abi from Bangalore,India. I read crime/detective fiction and an average of 25-30 books a year. I am giving Popsugar 2019 reading challenge [regular prompts] a try and will hopefully complete. I read every night and listen to audiobooks during office commute.

Some of the prompts are outside my comfort zone. Ghost stories, ones set in space are going to be quiet a challenge.

message 1668: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Hello :)
I'm Jenn and this my first time doing the Popsugar Reading Challenge. I love to read but over the last few years have found myself watching more tv and reading less..... I want this to change and thought that this would be a great way to get myself reading more and to read some different types of books that are outside my usual go to's... dig a bit deeper what choosing the next one.
I borrow from the library when reasonable (physical and ebook) but if I'm buying a book....its a proper physical book that I can lend/give away when I am done with it.

Alyssa Waters (fearlys) | 4 comments Hello!
I'm Alyssa. I'm 29 and live in Montana. This is my first time doing a reading challenge (and obviously my first time doing Popsugar, too!), but I'm excited! I've been in a reading slump the last few years, so I'm hoping this helps me get back in the groove.

Kai Charles(Fiction State Of Mind) (fictionstateofmind) Hi Everyone! I'm Kai. I live in Los Angeles. I'm looking forward to being more active this time around for the challenge :)

message 1672: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi! My name is Melonie, and I live in Mississippi. I am so excited about this challenge. I look forward to getting out of my book comfort zone to explore other genres. This is something that I have challenged my students to do for years but have not truly experienced it myself.

Arlene Lafosse | 2 comments Hello! My name is Arlene, and I live in Texas (about to move to Maryland - yay!) I just found this challenge in my book group on Ravelry - so excited to get out of my "nothing but mysteries" rut.

Abby (aalgarin25) | 4 comments Hello! I'm Abby and am from San Diego. I have always had the passion of reading. I am part of a book club with friends and 2017 was the first time I did the Goodreads Challenge. This year (2019) is my first time trying the Popsugar Reading Challenge with some friends from my bookclub. I am very excited for this challenge and look forward to new and different reads within this community of fellow readers!

Jade M | 1 comments Hi, I’m Jade from Australia! Thought I would give this a go, have already read a couple of books of this list unknowingly :).

message 1676: by Julie (new)

Julie | 43 comments Hi. I am Julie. I live in southern Ontario, Canada. I am a stay at home mom. I joined last year, but didn’t introduce myself here. I honestly haven’t completely figured out the Goodreads app, especially pertaining to groups. Last year I found I got most of the 40 prompts without planning. This year I hope to get all the prompts by actually making a plan. I have found being a part of online book clubs and one library book club has really given me much more variety in what I read. I am trying to expand my horizons, as cliche as that may be. I wasn’t able to get the January read on time to read along. I borrow most of my books from the library. I hope to read it once it comes in. I just started the February read, as it came in much more quickly. I am not sure it is really my kind of book, but I am giving it a try.

message 1678: by Plaidgirl68 (new)

Plaidgirl68 | 1 comments Hello, I'm Rianna from Oregon. I love to read! I work nights and sometimes have time to read at work. Since I get interrupted constantly, I tend to read YA stuff at work, because it's easy to put down and pick back up. I can't remember where I found this challenge, but I figured it would help me branch out and find new books and new authors. Looking forward to hopefully finishing all 50 books.

message 1679: by Zo (new)

Zo (zocara) | 11 comments Hi, I'm Zo from Australia. This is the first time I've tackled a challenge, it looks like such fun and has pushed me out of my usual comfy genre so that's exciting and promises to be interesting. I'm in the middle of binge reading Harry Potter so I've shoehorned them into as many categories as I can. I'm looking forward to my year of reading 50 books.

message 1680: by Toni (last edited Feb 02, 2019 04:30AM) (new)

Toni Fuller (tonifuller03) Hi! I'm Toni from Virginia. I joined Goodreads years ago but never did anything with it. I decided this year would the year of more reading and less mindlessly scrolling on FB! So far, so good! I read 9 books in January, which is almost as many as I read last year! I have a bunch of books at home already and am trying to get through them, but the library calls my name as does my Kindle, so my TBR list is pretty long. I have entered a few books for prompts in the PS challenge, but I'm not sure if I will actually complete the entire challenge. I'm not stressed about it though - I want to enjoy what I'm reading rather than trying to force myself to read something just for a challenge prompt. But, I am definitely trying to do as many as I can! My daughter, who is an avid reader and an aspiring author (she's 13, so she has time), is excited because I've chosen a few of her books to read. We really don't have the same taste in books (I like suspense and chick lit, she's more YA fantasy) but I'm being open minded. :) I'm in another group and am participating in a couple of challenges there as well. With what I've read so far this year, three prompts are finished.

Dana Ray HI everyone, my name is Dana and we just moved to Cocolalla Idaho. I love to read, and although I'm partial to mysteries and crime novels I want to open my horizons to new genres. Popsugar looked like the perfect starting point!

message 1684: by Elle (new)

Elle | 18 comments Heya!

My name is Eleanor and I'm from Toronto, Canada.

This is my first official challenge and I'm so excited. I try to do my own challenge each year and never quite complete it, so this is a great kick in the pants. :)

I like the fact that I can get organised with my reading and can hopefully get through the stack of unread books in my home. Also appreciate the heaps of recommendations by other members. It's great branching out from the usual material I find myself reading. My own bookclub dissolved a few years ago, life takes over every now and then, so I'm grateful for this group.

Good luck to everyone this year and happy reading! xx

Inger Holthe | 12 comments Hei! I am Inger from Oslo, Norway. Reading and knitting are my hobbies. I usually read a lot of crime/thriller and so on, I will use this challenge to read books I else wouldn't read, and I am aiming for 50 different books. Time will show if I succeed. I read books in Norwegian, Swedish and of course English. I also listen a lot to audiobooks. Good reading everyone!

message 1694: by Shelley (new)

Shelley | 11 comments Hi all,

I'm from Sydney, Australia. I am committed to getting back to my bookworm days (I used to read constantly, but three kids and life get in the way. I now set myself an intention to read at least a little every day. It is amazing how the habit builds and becomes part of my life again).

I have only read two books so far this year, so I will have to up my game!

Looking forward to the challenge!

LouAnn, I think what your doing for the kids is wonderful setting up different challenges. I remember growing up doing the summer reading program at our local library. If you'd like help with ideas, etc. for the kids let me know.

message 1696: by Lori (last edited Feb 25, 2019 10:51PM) (new)

Lori Goldstein My name is Lori and I'm a native Californian still here (Live in a suburb of Los Angeles named Northridge) and always enjoyed reading. I remember growing up until they built a public library near my home we would go to our elementary school where the Library's Book mobile would drive on to the playground.

At last when we had a brick and mortar library I visited quite often, sometimes even traveling to a library about 5 miles from my home as it was the closet library to us.

This challenge has definitely prompted me to read books I might not otherwise touch. Will try to do as many prompts as I can since I'm also involved with the Bookworm Bitches group at www.goodreads.com

message 1697: by Cathy (new)

Cathy (annerine) | 2 comments Hi everyone
New to the Popsugar Challenge this year, though a little late to the introduction party, since I'm already a fair few books in.
I'm Cathy, from the UK originally (but currently living and working in France). The group discussions have already given me so many ideas that my TBR list is now far bigger than I can ever hope to complete...
My general go-to genres are historical fiction, crime & thriller, and fantasy, but I've already picked up a couple of memoirs on recommendations from others and am always happy to find new genres, and more specifically, new authors to fall in love with!

message 1698: by Alison (new)

Alison | 35 comments Hi, I am Alison Bigbee from Santa Fe, NM and I am late to the party! I just got involved with Goodreads (I have been a member for a while but not really active) and an avid reader but stuck in a reading rut recently. I wanted to branch out, came across the 2019 Popsugar reading challenge and decided to join! I look forward to getting recommendations from this group and comparing notes! Thank you and Happy Reading!

Jennifer W | 1824 comments Hi everyone! I'm Jennifer from (cold) upstate New York! I had a beautiful baby girl last year and my reading time and energy went to nil, so I'm trying to get back into it. I actually found the challenge on popsugar's website because I like to read their parenting articles and thought I'd give it a try. I like a good challenge, so hopefully this will get me going on my reading!
