Charline (charline84) | 29 comments Hi everyone, I'm Charline, 30, from Scotland. I saw this challenge on Tumblr and thought I'd give it a go. So I'm new to this website and already slightly obsessed :) I love reading, but have fallen out of the habit and thought this was a good way of getting back into it. And it is also inspiring me to read different types of books I might not have chosen otherwise.

Yep 1 a week :)
but I figure several of the prompts could be filled by rather easy books which should balance out the more time consuming ones.

ohh Please post what your reading. my 2 oldest girls are in 3rd and 5th grade and are trying to do this challenge. some of the prompts are really hard to fill at that reading level.

About to finish Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson . It's a beautiful memoir told in verse. It fits female author, nonfiction, memoir, finish in a day (but I haven't), color in the title, makes you cry. I'm not sure which prompt I'm using it for yet, but I highly recommend it.
I read Flora and Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures last year and loved it. Great for both ages and could fit in lots of categories.

Sally (phoenix623) | 23 comments Hi! My name is Sally. I am a Math teacher living in Georgia, but I am originally from NYC. I am a big book nerd and have a to-be-read list a mile long, but I keep adding to it. Between work and my two boys (6 and 8), I can usually make it through 40-60 books a year, but I tend to stick to one area. I really like this challenge because it is going to push me out of my comfort zone and help me reach out to other areas.

Thanks for taking me into the group and I look forward to this. I am now going to sit in front of my to-be-read books and see what fits where, so I know what gaps to fill.

Devin Saunders | 3 comments Hello all!

I'm Devin from Maryland. Even though I was an English lit minor, college pretty much killed my love for reading so I haven't picked up a book for fun since my freshman year. But now that I've graduated, have a professional job, and no plans to go to grad school for at least a year, I thought that Popsugar's challenge was an excellent way to rediscover my love for books! Or at least try to anyway. We'll see if I can get through 50+ books without feeling the need to annotate, analyze, and write a paper or three ;)

Best of luck to everyone!

Julia (_mj_howard) | 57 comments Hi
This is the first time I've joined in a goodreads group, and a challenge set by someone else.
I'm addicted to reading and read everything, but need to read more classics.
I heard about the challenge on the YOU-app and did a Google search.
I have 2 sons and a wonderful husband, and work full-time; we all live in Melbourne Australia. But insomnia gives me plenty of time to read.
Really looking forward to the challenge.

I've always been a big reader, and I started a book blog a few months ago (http://sarahcantstopreading.blogspot.com). I'm really looking forward to this challenge! I work full time and have a busy social life, but I'm hoping to average about 2 books a week this year.

Mindy, I made a Goodreads list for these books, since I have the Goodreads app on my phone. I'm thinking about adding a second list so I can differentiate between the TBR books and the finished books.

Pinterest is such a great way to keep track of books! You should post the link to your board when you get a chance :)

I buy a ton of books, too, that I don't always get around to reading them all! As a teacher do you get to choose what books are in your cirriculum or does that get set elsewhere? What books are you teaching this year? Glad to have you!

Welcome! This is a group of very supportive people so don't worry about anyone judging your English! I'm from the USA but my grammar and spelling can be terrible at times. As long as you are a book lover thats all that matters here. Glad to have you!

I am lucky enough to work in a district where we get to make decisions by campus which books we will buy for the department. Then individual teachers choose from those books. We have read The Giver. We will also be reading The Hobbit, an adapted version of Twelfth Night, and hopefully No More Dead Dogs (one of my favorites).
I have a (much!) larger than normal classroom library. It is so important for kids to have choices in their independent reading. I try to expose them to as much as possible. Plus I just love books. Win/win. I also get distracted by the newest, shiniest cover and have a hard time committing. ;)

message 121: by SabrinaJaleesa (new)

SabrinaJaleesa (readnothingyet) Hi all, my name is Sabrina. I'm 25 years young and I live in the Netherlands, but I mainly read English books. Mostly because I prefer to read a book in its original language, so nothing gets lost in translation. But also because English books are much cheaper than Dutch ones.

My book collection has gradually been growing throughout the past few years, so for this challenge I will definitely be reading the unread books that are currently on my shelves. For some of the other challenges I already have a few books in mind, but other that that I will be looking around here for inspiration. My reading taste is already quite diverse. I'll pretty much read anything if it's properly written and there's a good storyline. Some of the best books that I have read are the ones that used to be outside my "comfort" zone.

I look forward to sharing this reading experience with all of you and maybe make some new book-friends. So feel free to add me as a friend or recommend some books that I absolutely have to read.

Happy reading!
Sabrina

Donnajo We did brown girl dreaming for a book club and the one girl read aloud the author's other book which I don't have the title handy right now something way I think. Very good also and her interview on why she wrote the book is also very good.

Alex Willis (fightingokra) Hey, I'm Alex, 32 from SC. I am a little late to the party but the challenge sounds like a lot of fun. There are times I get stuck in a rut reading and hope this challenge both spurs me to read more and expands my horizons beyond the Horror, Fantasy, Science Fiction, Action/Adventure genres.

Do books finished in 2015 but started in 2014 count towards the challenge or only books started and finished in '15?

message 124: by Miche (new)

Miche (etherealgypsy) | 1 comments Howdy! I'm Miche from Manila, Philippines! I specifically looked for a group for this challenge by Popsugar and I'm glad to find it here :) I'm joining for the fun of reading, and to meet new friends too :)

I think most people are including any book finished in 2015 towards the goal. The challenge is meant to be fun and can be tweaked to your individual tastes. So if you want them to count, then yes they do! :) Welcome, we are glad to have you!

Hi! I'm Nadine, I'm 47 years old and living in NY state, up north of Syracuse. I love reading and I love the extra sense of accomplishment I get by fulfilling a challenge, but I never found a challenge that really worked for me, because I'm stubborn and don't want to read a book someone else told me to read. Silly! I know! This challenge is fantastic! It's doable (I can read 52 books!), challenging (some of these will be a real challenge!), a fun puzzle to figure out books for some of the topics, AND (really, the best part for me) this will push me to expand what I read. The last two years I went on a YA dystopia binge. It was fun and I enjoyed a lot of the books, but I'm ready for something else now. This challenge will be just the impetus I need to get out of this rut I created for myself, and freshen up my reading list.

message 127: by Roxy (new)

Roxy (bookishplanss) | 0 comments Hello everyone, my name is Roxy, I'm from California and this is my third attempt at up-keeping my Goodreads account. I'm a mom of four little ones, I work full-time and my family and sports take up a lot of my reading time. I'll read pretty much anything, but my favorite genres are crime fiction, true crime, and psychological thrillers. I've been reading a lot of young adult and new adult lately and am always open to new genres and books. My reading challenge for 2015 is 24 books and I've already read four this month. So far, I have read: Never Never by Colleen Hoover and Tarryn Fisher, Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover, Losing it by Cora Carmack and Paris Cravings by Kimberley Montpetit.

I welcome any and all suggestions! With the list above, it seems like I'm in a contemporary mood, but I think I'm ready for a good true crime book or crime thriller. Any suggestions?

message 128: by Alex (new)

Alex (iambicpulse) Hi everyone! I'm Alex, I'm from slightly-northern-and-very-western England, and I'm a little bit late! I did start the challenge on NYD, and I'm currently on my second book, but I'm a terrible procrastinator (or an awesome one, depending on which way you look at it) so I haven't posted here yet. I'm really looking forward to this challenge; it'll definitely make me whittle down my TBR list and then some. I'm not sure how near I'm going to get to my target of 52 books this year, as I'm currently studying for my masters degree and I'm pretty busy with various assessments, but we'll see, I guess!

I've tweaked (or in a couple of cases, completely changed) some of the prompts to fit more with what I want to read this year, because while I do want to get out of my comfort zone I also want to read stuff I think I'm going to enjoy, you know? I'm aiming to read more poetry this year, for example, so I've changed "a play" to "a poetry collection". And for the first half of the year I'm also doing an A-Z challenge (it was really hard trying to come up with books that fit some of the letters and a prompt, but I've done it!

Interested in exploring new genres and discussing the books I'll be reading in order to get insight and other points of view. I'm still working on my list and should be able to post it soon. Thanks to everyone so far for the reading suggestions! It's been a big help!

message 131: by Ariel (new)

Ariel | 33 comments I'm Ariel, originally from New Orleans, currently in vet school. I mainly read sci-fi/fantasy and YA, but I dabble in a lot of genres. I'm concurrently doing another reading challenge that only has 12 books (http://modernmrsdarcy.com/2015/01/201...) and trying to make them all overlap. Currently 8 books into the challenge, but tests start next week so I know I'm about to be slowing down a lot.

Gabriella Hello! I am Gabriella, I am originally from Italy but I live in Mchenry, IL with my husband and two boys of 2 and 5. I have been doing this challenge to try to read more, like I used to, and spend less time on the internet or facebook. I love fantasy but it's not the only thing I read. I like that this group seems to be from a lot of different places and I hope to meet someone fun through this!

This one looked like fun so I just had to participate!

Amy B | 7 comments Hi! I'm Amy, a stay-at-home mom of two (a 2.5 year old and 3 month old). Needless to say, I don't have a ton of extra time for reading, but I saw this challenge and thought it might be fun to try something new and add something unique to my reading list (I've never read a graphic novel or looked for a book set in my hometown). I doubt I'll get even close to reading all 52 books in one year, but it looks like a fun challenge!

message 138: by Rianne (new)

Rianne Heartfilia (glindaaaaaa) | 6 comments Hello Everyone!
I'm Rose and I'm twenty-one. I am a Law Student who will move to South-Africa for five months in three weeks!

I doubted to start with this challenge but I really wanted too, so I hope that I can pack a few extra books or find a library in Cape Town.
I live in a boring town in The Netherlands so the book set in my Hometown is going to be difficult but maybe I can try it when I live somewhere else.
I just hope to get a lot of inspiration here and insides on great books!

The hometown book was a challenge, but you can pick one from near your home town and I was lucky to find a book set in a small town right next to mine! Good luck and have fun!

message 140: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Hi I am Stephanie and I have been in this group since right after it started but never introduced myself. I am a 44 year old mother of 2 grown daughters and a grandmother of 2 getting ready for #3 and #4 grand-babies. I used to read romance, then mostly Christian fiction but grew bored and began to read outside my box only to find a whole new world! YA, distopia, fantasy, sci-fi, horror, comedy, so many choices. This challenge is stretching me even more though because I have generally stayed away from "classics" but now am trying to introduce myself to the past. 52 books will be difficult but I love a challenge and do well with a deadline/time-frame.
By the way I love reading through everyone's lists and the discussions. They have really helped with suggestions for the prompts that I do not have a book for yet.

message 141: by Cheri (new)

Cheri (sherryberryx) | 13 comments Hi everyone! I'm Sherry and I'm looking forward to this reading challenge as it's my first. I have to admit growing up I've never been much of a reader (read lots of fanfiction but not so much books) and I'm hoping to change that now that I'm older. I find that Goodreads is a great way to keep me on track on reading and motivated. I don't know if I'll get around to reading 52 books this year but I definitely want to aim for at least 20.

message 142: by Megan (new)

Megan (megabou) | 64 comments Hi! My name is Megan. I am 26 and work in a behavioral hospital in south Louisiana. I've been keeping up with this challenge on Pinterest and joined GoodReads a few weeks ago due to the suggestion of PopSugar. I'm still learning this site, so I've just recently found this group. I'm so excited!

Frances Hello everyone! I'm a bit late to this challenge (can you believe it's already the second week of February?), but I thought I'd give it a try anyway. I'm a freshman at university studying computer science. I used to read all the time, but in somewhere in high school I got distracted by the internet and college prep, so I'm trying to rekindle my love for books.

message 145: by Lieke (new)

Lieke Hi! I'm Lieke from the Netherlands. I already started this challenge on a forum I'm on and found this group today :)
Hope to fill the challenge with books from my TBR.
But some might be harder so I hope to get some ideas for those here.

I'm 12 books in and still obsessed.

Background: I'm 44, a working mom of two young children. I've always been a big reader but 52 books is a lot for me. So I've decided to give up housework in the pursuit (hahaha!).
