Analicia Chavez | 3 comments Hi everyone, I'm Analicia from Arizona! I'm 35, a recent MLIS grad, and I currently work in an academic library. Since I graduated I have a lot more time to do fun things like take this reading challenge, so I decided to join this group to help motivate me even more. I started reading Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda to meet the LGBTQ+ protagonist requirement, looking for ward to seeing other people's recommendations.

message 1202: by Rosa (new)

Rosa (rosaiglarsh) Hello, my name is Rosa. I'm a freshman at Beloit College in Wisconsin. I love lists and reading, so I thought I'd join this group. Pleased to meet you all.

Luna Rao (theliteratedoodle) | 47 comments Hi Rosa!

welcome :). Do you like Beloit? considering for our son...

happy reading.

message 1204: by Britany (new)

Britany | 1699 comments Hi Readers! I'm Britany from Clearwater, FL. I am in my 30's, single gal, working in finance industry. I need more readers in my life as my best friends and family are not that into reading... I'm very active on GR and discovered the Popsugar challenge this year. Looking forward to getting to know everyone.

message 1205: by Laura (new)

Laura | 1 comments Hi everyone, I’m Laura. I live in Washington State. I’ve been a reader for as long as I can remember. My dad used to read to me almost every night when I was a child, and I believe that is what helped develop my lifelong love for reading. I stumbled upon this reading challenge and I’m excited to try it out!

message 1206: by Cai (new)

Cai | 2 comments Hi everyone! I'm Cai, a portrait and editorial photographer and mom from Massachusetts. My friend did the PopSugar challenge last year and it inspired me to try it out this year, along with Book Riot's Read Harder Challenge. I used to be a bookseller and a huge reader, since having my son it's mostly been parenting-related nonfiction and picture books (which I love) and I'm looking forward to getting back into fiction and exploring some topics and genres I wouldn't normally go for. I'm allowing myself audiobooks and graphic novels for some of the prompts, and giving the added challenge that I can't buy any books this year (an addiction of mine) - they all have to be from my shelf or the library. I'm also not using social media anymore, apart from for my business, so hopefully that gives me more time to read! :)

message 1207: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Henderson | 1 comments Hello! I'm Mandy and I'm from the "Natural State" otherwise known as Arkansas. Little Rock to be exact. I was a mom to an only child but he passes away in 2015 so now it's just me and my Maltese, Einstein. He's even older than I am but he thinks he's still a puppy so he keeps me on my toes! I'm disabled and have been since the late 90's due to MS and fibromyalgia and more but I try to keep a good attitude!
I've always loved to read but I've never been very good at keeping my records up to date here so my intention for 2018 is to be more accountable on all fronts.
Now you know my whole story..nice to meet you all

message 1208: by Kyrie (new)

Kyrie | 1 comments I'm Kyrie, and I thought this list would be a good way to get away from reading only mysteries and scifi.

Nice to meet you, Mandy. I am very sorry for the loss of your child.

I am glad you have your Maltese and I find books can be healing, too.

Me too! That’s why I’m doing it, this one and the Book Riot Read Harder Challenge. I’m 8 books in and so far it’s working.

message 1211: by Gerry (new)

Gerry Howley | 5 comments Hi Everyone. Newbie here. I live in Manchester, England. I'm doing the monthly challenge because that seemed a nice and easy intro into doing more reading in 2018! Excited to be here and meet you all =D

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss Mandy. I understand my only child, a daughter, died this past summer. It's not easy.

message 1213: by Laura (new)

Laura Ahrendt | 0 comments Hi There! I’m Laura and I’m from Minnesota. I just stumbled across this challenge and found that all the books I’ve read so far this year fit into it so I figured I would take the challenge! I’m excited for what books it will help me discover!

message 1214: by Jaclyn (new)

Jaclyn (jayinbee) | 22 comments Hello hello! My name is Jaclyn. I'm 31 years old and work as a color matcher for specialty plastics at a large chemical plant (despite my zoological degree). I didn't start reading for pleasure until my early 20s but I love it now! Read 31 books last year and set the bar low this year at only 15, hoping to spend more time pursuing other hobbies but it's the first week of February and I'm already 6 in, lol. I'm having a lot of fun with this challenge so far and am excited to be a part of the group!

message 1215: by Miranda (new)

Miranda | 7 comments Hi! I'm Miranda. I live near Denton, TX and I found out about the challenge at a monthly book club I go to. I decided to join the challenge because even though I pledged to read more books here on Goodreads, I like challenges that have ideas for topics/genres/titles to inspire me. I used to read a lot while I was in school, and I still have the urge, but my to-read list is ever growing, while the number of books I've finished is not.

I'm excited to start reading :)

message 1216: by Candice (new)

Candice Hello, I’m Candice. I’ve been participating in the goodreads book challenge for years and I wanted to mix it up this year. I found the popsugar challenge and thought I’d give it a try. I found the group when I was searching for book ideas in a few unfamiliar categories.

message 1217: by Chrissi (new)

Chrissi (clewand84) | 238 comments Hi everyone - I'm Chrissi from Chicago originally but now living overseas in Hong Kong ... and next year, well, that's still a massive ? on my plans right now! I've been meaning to do this challenge for awhile, but life gets in the way - but I do loads of reading for my job as a humanities teacher. I'm glad I found this group and look forward to breaking out of my Brit lit/chick lit/super-nerdy history stream of reading.

message 1218: by Aileen (new)

Aileen | 6 comments Hi everyone! My name's Aileen and I'm from Canada. Since I started high school a few years ago, I've been finding it hard to get in time for reading because I'm usually either doing homework, procrastinating on my computer, or sleeping, but I'm hoping that this will be the push I need to read a ton this year. I'm also trying to read more diversely, so I thought that this would be the perfect challenge for me.

I'm really looking forward to trying to get through all of the challenges and getting to know y'all!

Hi Maria! Thank you for the welcome; sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I'm not sure I like Beloit. There are some good teachers, but it's not the friendliest atmosphere.
Happy reading!
Rosa

message 1220: by Lene (new)

Lene Hey everyone :) I'm Lene, 23 and from Germany. I've wanted to read more for months now already and I think the reading challenge is a really fun way to start with that ^^ I've read tons of books when I was in school but stopped eventually and now I'm super excited to really delve into that hobby again!

message 1221: by Mari (new)

Hope the atmosphere gets friendlier over time. Sorry to hear that...I was in a college that was all wrong for me my freshman year and managed to transfer but I know that's not ideal for many.

Thank you for the insight--this college search is a bit overwhelming. Good luck to you!

message 1223: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid Hello everyone! I'm new to Good Reads and to challenges so here I go! I have a modest goal of 25 books for 2018 however I'm excited about reading again and want to read more. I'm a full time worker and am out of the house over 50 hours a week. I've resented not having more time for reading but you what? I'm not gonna let that drag me down! This challenge will truly be a challenge and I'm up for it!

message 1224: by Susan (new)

Susan A. (suzsoccer) Congrats on wanting to read more! It is a habit that can be difficult to start again, but bravo for starting! Do you have a long commute? You could always do an audio book while on your commute or on your lunch break. They are a great way to 'read' a book while doing mundane tasks. Good luck and don't hesitate to reach out to anyone on here. It's the best place for support and ideas! Happy V-day!

message 1225: by Soph ♡ (new)

Soph ♡ | 130 comments Hello everyone, I’m Soph from the UK.
I’ve started this challenge a little late, but decided to join in, in an attempt to broaden my taste in books. By doing something like this, I will maybe discover books from genres I would never thought of trying before now. Can’t wait to get stuck in!

message 1226: by Mel (new)

Mel (cosymilko) | 1 comments Hi everyone!
I'm Mel. I live in Adelaide, Australia. I'm keen to read a more diverse spread of books this year and hope this will help me do that. I tend to stay in my niche area and stick to books very similar.

message 1227: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Marie | 1 comments Hello everyone! I'm a little late to game, but I'm so excited to jump into the 2018 Popsugar Reading Challenge! I've seen it all over Pinterest for years and just thought I would start now on a whim. A little bit about myself: I'm a registered Nurse living in Los Angeles and have always loved to read and literature. I'm currently getting out of a reading slump after moving into a new apartment. To get myself out of this slump I'm returning to one of my favorite series from high school, The Mortal Instruments; I'm continuing the series with City of Falling Angels. I'm really enjoying it so far!! I think that would fulfill challenge #3? The next book in a series you started? Right? I'm saying yes...lol. Well anyway I'm so excited to start this!! And going to fulfill as many challenges as I can :)

message 1228: by Liz (new)

Liz | 9 comments Hi I’m Liz from Suffolk, England. I read a lot but non fiction mainly. I want to try and read more fiction and classics and so thought this challenge would be great encouragement! 🙂

message 1229: by Lily (new)

Lily C | 2 comments Hi! I’m Lily, 14, and I just joined this reading challenge. I am definitely not going to be able to make 50 books, my goal is 20. So far this year I have read The Hate U Give, Legend(part of a dystopian series), A Feminist Manifesto in 15 Suggestions(I think thats what its called??) and most recently The Last Lecture for school. I mostly read dystopian, teen romance and fantasy but I was hoping that this challenge would help me branch out more.

message 1230: by David (new)

David Middleton | 6 comments Hello. I'm David and discovered this challenge a few weeks ago. We have a work notice board and someone posted the list of challenges there. Decided to take the opportunity to work through both some of my too large to-be-read pile and also my Christmas gifts! Very happy to have this challenge.

message 1231: by Jen (new)

Jen (jentrewren) Hi I'm Jen and I started the challenge through another group. I am 14 books though the main challenge and 4 through the advanced one.
I am also from Straya.......The top end and also haven't done one of these challenges before. I figured it might get me to read some of my TBR pile and also get me to read some things I wouldn't usually have picked. Others seem to have posted what they plan to read for each prompt but I change my mind constantly because there are so many good books out there. Who knows what will be on the final list?

message 1232: by Danielle (new)

Danielle (socadani111) | 1 comments Hi, I’m Danielle from Massachusetts. I saw this challenge on Popsugar and decided to give it a try.

message 1233: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 1 comments Hi
I’m Natalie. I’ve been reading almost anything since I was 14. I have been challenging myself to mix it up a little ,ore this will be fun. I’m reading big Little Lies Audiobook and the unlikely Pilgrimag3 of Harold Fry.

message 1235: by Darja (new)

Darja | 43 comments Hi
My name is Darja and I´m from small town in Czech republic. I love reading and I Iike challenges. Usually I made my own reading challenge but in January I found this from Popsugar so I join it!
I prefer thrillers and crimes but I read more genre - only I really do not like romantic love stories.
And I have to say I don´t enjoy monthly challenges here. It´s not bad idea but it´s not for me. I would not feel free. I´ve chosen books for each prompt and I don´t want to change it now. But maybe I´ll change my opinion, we will see :-D

message 1236: by Laura (new)

Laura (ldavis26) | 1 comments Hi I'm Laura currently residing in PA. I just discovered this challenge. I think I may struggle sticking to categories. I like to read, but I struggle fitting things to categories. But maybe I can manage this one. Looking forward to at least getting some good book recommendations.

The challenges aren't compulsory for this group. They are just suggestions to fill some of the challenges. You can talk about your own choice for the category instead on the thread.

Yes, I know it. I want to fill all 50 prompts and I only said I´m not interested in monthly challenges. Thanks, Jen!

Norees (noreeswrites) Hey everyone, I'm Norees. I am a 20 year old university student and book blogger from Canada. I am currently on my semester abroad in Edinburgh, and I came across this challenge on a friend's blog and knew I had to give it a go!

I am a SAHM to 4 kiddos, ages 8,7,4 and 2. I am also a part time student taking 10 credits this semester. I havent been able to read quite as often as Id like but Im looking forward to this challenge continuing to keep me on track :)

message 1241: by Anne (new)

Anne McGlone | 2 comments Hi All, new to the group since last week, only heard about the popsuagr challenge then when I came across it by accident, how was I not aware of it before then, and joined this group. I'm from Co.Wicklow, Ireland. I wouldn't be a very fast reader but would have always loved to read. I got myself back into reading last year (after 3 children) by setting myself up on the Goodreads Challenge as I found some spare time to sit down with a book as my boys are able to manage without me more. I love reading people's recommendations and introducing myself to new and exciting genres which this group will most likely do. Looking forward to joining in on some of the conversations.

message 1242: by Book-a-neer (new)

Book-a-neer | 4 comments Hi! Irene here from the Land Down Under. I've seen this challenge come up in Bookcrossing but never really got interested until now.

Like everyone here, I love to read and am most happiest when reading. I tend to read more of the crime/mystery genre so I'm really looking forward to this.

message 1243: by Christine (new)

Christine (christinem710) Hey all! I’m Christine and I’m really interested in starting the POPSUGAR challenge! I mainly read YA books (fantasy) so it’ll definitely be fun to broaden my shelves

message 1244: by Renee (new)

Renee (misstiffanyrenee) Hi! My name is Renee, and I am from Granbury, Texas. I found this challenge late last year and thought I would give it a go in 2018 to help me read books that have been on my list FOREVER and also read more in a year! Happy reading!

message 1245: by Laren (last edited Mar 15, 2018 10:28PM) (new)

Laren Greetings, my name is Laren (like Karen but with an ) and I live in Memphis, TN. I have been stuck in a children's book genre rut for "fun" reading while finishing my doctorate and recently was reminded I like other genres so I decided to give some challenges a try to help me fall back in love with big people books for fun too. Looking forward to the challenge and seeing what new books I will fall in love with. I'm also late to the goodreads game in general and still learning my way around. So far a lot better than my reading journal and WAY more interactive!

message 1246: by kari (new)

kari kline | 9 comments Hello, Kari from South Dakota. Just have a quick question. I'm wondering if The Girl Who Played with Fire would count as the LGBTQ protagonist prompt?

message 1247: by Nikki (new)

Nikki (bookworm_enkayla) Hello, Nikki here. I'm doing the challenge to break me out of my comfort zone and give new authors/genres a try.

Jennifer T. (jent998) | 231 comments Kari wrote: "Hello, Kari from South Dakota. Just have a quick question. I'm wondering if The Girl Who Played with Fire would count as the LGBTQ protagonist prompt?"

I would say yes. Lisbeth definitely does her own thing and does not fit into any societal standard.

message 1249: by Anne (new)

Anne Vivliohomme (annevivliohomme) Hi you guys! I'm Anne and I'm from the Netherlands. If it were up to me, I'd only read English books, because well... I don't like Dutch books. At all. I am currently in another group as well in which they do this challenge too! However, for only 3 categories I knew what book I was going to read, so I decided to join this group for inspiration! I am really happy to meet y'all and I'd love to hear about all your reading!
