Hayley (morningstar78) | 1 comments Hello everyone! I'm new here and have never done this sort of thing so I hope this will work out. Hopefully even reach my 50 books this year. I've also started to notice how many books I normally read and have ran out of books to read, so this is a great opportunity to find more!

Katie | 1 comments Hi y'all, I'm Katie. I live in Colorado and attend CU Denver. I find it hard to read for fun while in school. I'm hoping joining a reading challenge will help to motivate me. I also read a lot of suspense/murder mystery type books and hope this helps get out of my comfort zone. Time to update my "want to read" bookshelf! :)

Eeva (eevers) Hey everyone. I’m Eeva from Canada (west coast). I’m a slow reader and think this may help me plug away and get through more books. And of course broaden my range of books. I’m happy to say I have some books in the prompt list here at home.

Sarah. B Hi everyone. Happy New Year. I`m Sarah from Wales. I joined this challenge because I think I need to read a wider variety of books and I`m always looking for book reccomendations. ( Think I`m going to need help with some of the categories! ) Good Luck with the challenge :-)

message 1070: by Gwen (new)

Gwen (gwenw) Hello everyone, I'm Gwen. I'm in Maryland and have wanted to join a book club but none i could find fit my a schedule (or my hatred of DC area traffic). I read a lot of scifi, speculative fiction, YA of all types, and feminist and gender theory. I too have way too many unread books on my physical and electronic shelves that I hope this will help me read. I'm also planning on focusing on books by authors from marginalized groups.

I will probably be more active during the summer break, but am going to try and read throughout the year.

( I have noticed people from outside the USA state their country but those of us from inside the USA give their home state. Weird.) Anyway, this will be my second time trying this challenge. I will not complete it but I will do as many as I can. (I am jealous of those of you that read so many books.) Last year I read a lot of the discussions but didn't participate as much as I could have so this year I'm going to try to put my two cents worth out there more often. Happy Reading!

I'm so glad you're here Carla! I wish I had known about challenges like this when I was a teen, although im not sure they actually existed back then....
It's overwhelming to think of recommendations to offer you without knowing what you like or have already read...

I'm Cassie from Texas. I've wanted to do this challenge for the last two years and haven't managed to even start. I'm hoping that finding this group helps keep me focused

Hi Carla!! Glad you've joined! Over the years, I've been able to fit young adult books in all of the categories. What do you enjoy reading? I'll do my best to give you a good suggestion. My favorite books this past year have been "The Girl Who Drank the Moon", "Study in Charlotte", and the Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard series. Hope that jump starts your reading this year!

I love reading all sorts of books, but I'm a particular fan of fantasy, YA, graphic novels, and the classics. My favourite authors are Michael Chabon and Neil Gaiman. If anyone is looking for new friends on here, I'd love the company!

message 1085: by Kaitlyn (new)

Kaitlyn | 6 comments Hi everyone, I'm Kaitlyn, I'm from California, and turning 25 soon! I am new to Goodreads--but I did my own book challenge for 2017; I managed to read 200 books! I will be doing this book challenge (hopefully all 50) while also studying for the GRE and applying to grad school. Any book recommendations are welcome and ask me if you would like any as well :)

I like pretty much all genres and I visit book stores way too often.

message 1086: by Jeanna (new)

Jeanna Hi! I'm Jeanna and I found this challenge last week. I was debating about doing it but there were a lot of prompts that I was interested in so here I am. I'm also glad that you're allowed to count books you've already read because that makes it a little bit easier to catch up. I'm from Tennessee, I'm a nurse, am currently looking for a job, I love getting book recommendations so feel free to suggest some! I'm a huge fan of Star Wars, I also love Star Trek. My book tastes run the gamut from YA to historical fiction to thrillers. I'll try anything once. I'm excited to be here and hope to make some new friends!

message 1096: by Johanne (last edited Jan 05, 2018 04:25AM) (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1301 comments Hi, I´m Johanne from Copenhagen, Denmark. I´m a children´s librarian with all there is to that, including running two bookclubs for kids and teens. I also review children´s and YA books for the danish libraries (to help out with choosing which books to buy, and the reviews are used on the libraries´ websites). This is my first time in a reading challenge, and I hope to be able to use some of the books I would otherwise read, because I don´t think I´ll make it if I don´t, and I look forward to expanding my horizon and maybe get to read some books on my neverending TBR lists and piles...

Hi Carla, I´m very much an adult but also a children´s/ youth librarian and I read/ know of a lot of books you might like. I don´t know if you are doing the challenge in order, if not I´d like to recommend Fangirl and I'll Give You the Sun for the "characters who are twins"
and if you like fantasy more Troubletwisters

message 1098: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (valerie_c) | 5 comments Hi, everyone. I'm Valerie, I live in Virginia. I would like to read more diversely and decided to do this challenge to help me find new authors and genres I might enjoy. I also need to read some of the unread books that have been sitting on my bookshelves for far too long.

message 1099: by Tina (new)

Tina (tinatome) Hey. I'm Tina. I just found this challenge. I'm excited about going outside my comfort zone (primarily sci-fi/fantasy) and reading some new books. I've read in a few places that people don't think you should use one book in more than one category, but I had planned to do that... I don't have time to read 40+books (I know that's less than a book a week, but sometimes it takes me about 2 weeks to finish a book).

I love reading, and can devour a book given the time to just sit and read uninterrupted, but I rarely have that time. I know most of you face the same issue. What I'm getting at is, how do you find the time, lol? I can't do audio books, because I don't process information as well aurally. I'm a visual learner. I tend to zone out with music, as well. I don't want to miss out on a really good book just because I can't follow along. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to finish the challenge, but I don't want to "cheat" by using a book in multiple categories.

message 1100: by Anna (last edited Jan 05, 2018 09:53AM) (new)

Anna (annalovesbooksforever) | 4 comments Hey :D
I am Anna, a 21 year old student from Berlin.
While I always do the Goodreads reading challenge (111 books in 2017) I have never participated in a "real" one.
Since I read in order to relax from Uni and work, I predominantly read YA novels but this year I am planning to branch out a bit, read even more diversely and discover some new authors.
Not sure whether I'll be able to find something for each category but I'm going to give it a try :)
