Hey! I'm Elizabeth! I'm from California and I joined this group with my sister, Jessica. I discovered this group by searching for it after I saw the new reading list for popsugar. I did the list last year but I didn't finish because things got too hectic with full time school and work. However, I think with the help of this group I will find the motivation and support needed to finish strong this year!

message 552: by Enny (new)

Enny | 0 comments Well hello there. I'm Enny and I joined the challenge a week ago so I thought it might be time to get a little more active.
I had heard about challenges like this before but actually never have participated in one and that's why I decided to join this group when I came across it - to keep things rolling. However, at the beginning I thought it might be a little late to join but eventually I decided to try it anyway and now I'm proud to say I've already finished two books. I'm sixteen years old and I still go to school so there's nothing much to tell about me, expect that I like to read a lot.

Fee | 0 comments Hallo. I'm Fee. I live in Germany with my husband. I love reading and I spend a big part of my free time with books and audiobooks or thinking about books :-). I'm exited to join the reading challenge and this group.

message 554: by Lilly (new)

Lilly | 2 comments I'm Chelidona from Switzerland. (Obviously not my real name, I made bad experiences with that ;) ).
I tried to to the reading challenge last year and although I failed, I still read more new books than I usually managed in the last few years .... I tend to reread my old favourites too much.
I am already way behind this year - I only finished two books for the challenge and I am on my third, so I hope that reading a bit more actively in this group will help me to get motivated to get on with it!
I am currently unemployed, hopefully that will change some time during the year :)

Tamsin Hi everyone! My name is Tamsin, I'm 25 and I live in the U.K. I've recently reignited my love of reading- watching Gilmore Girls reminded me how much I love it! So I'm looking to cross reference Popsugar's challenge with Rory Gilmore's reading list. I really like the randomness of the list, and I am looking forward to reading new genres!

Barbara | 2 comments Hi all! My name is Barbara and I recently "semi" retired. I have always been a big reader and now have more time to endulge. I joined this challenge in hopes that I will broaden my reading list this year and explore more titles out of my usual genres/authors.

message 558: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 38 comments Hi everyone... total newbie here. I've been doing the challenge since the beginning of the year because a friend recommended it for me. I'm a full time working mom with ADD and I really really need to clear my head and why not? It's been so hard to focus on reading all my life because of the way my brain works but I'm already 9 books in...a personal record and it's still early. so I might not post a lot and maybe lurk here and there, but I'm just here to say hello!

message 559: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 38 comments Oh and I'm 34 and from the Chicago area. My daughter is almost 3, I'm in the interior design industry and I love cult fiction writers like Bukowski, Palahniuk and Ellis as well as sci fi fantasy. My daughter's middle name is Moiraine from the Wheel of Time series.

Lily (joy1) | 61 comments Hi! Thx for your words that one can be welcome here for only one book...for me that has been A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles. Having found this board, I am intrigued by all the directions it moves. I won't have time to participate fully, but I will indulge in ducking in and out. Several of you have already contributed to my reading pleasure and ideas for my f2f (face-to-face) book group.

I am long "retired" from professional pursuits. Now I indulge in Goodreads conversations, a bit of writing for personal pleasure, activities in my community, and time with friends and family, trying to keep up with the demands of daily life.

message 561: by Alison (new)

Alison (alik81) | 1 comments Hi everyone, I'm Alison from Australia. I love reading and this is a great way of reading things I wouldn't otherwise have picked up. I set myself a personal challenge of reading a book for every year of my age before my next birthday - that's a lot of books!!!!!!

message 562: by Olivia (new)

Olivia | 2 comments Hello everyone! I am Liv! I started this challenge a couple weeks ago and I am loving the different books and genres that it is introducing to me already!

message 563: by Sara (new)

Sara Welcome to all the newcomers! We are happy to have you!

message 564: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (wendyneedsbooks) | 131 comments Hello, I'm Wendy and I had been meaning to join this challenge for a while (I love challenges)! I had already read 17 books this year, but it turns out that I have been able to fit all of them into a category, so I don't feel like I'm scrambling to keep up. :)

I love reading classics, weird or obscure books, and reading outside my comfort zone. I'm trying to read mostly TBR books for this challenge--my TBR is almost 600 books, but I find I'm still adding more anyway. Oh well!

Sara Grace (bassoonsara) | 123 comments Hi...I've been in the group since the beginning of this year but haven't introduced myself. I'm a library paraprofessional in St. Louis at a major university. I grew up in western PA north of Pittsburgh. I studied music history then started a MLIS but didn't have the money to finish. I took a job at NARA in St. Louis, that's how I got out here. Been at the university 1.5 years now. I'm hoping to get a job offer soon so I can get away from my micromanaging boss. 😩

message 567: by Anna (new)

Anna W | 2 comments Hello to you all! I live in a small town in Alabama, and love to read! It is my great escape when I can't actually travel away (which I try to do as often as possible.)

I have just recently stumbled across this group on Goodreads and absolutely love the premise behind it! I'm a bit behind on the prompts, but fortunately, some of my Goodreads Book Challenge books fit in. I have some catching up to do, for sure.

Tonie J | 1 comments Hi! I'm Tonie . I was once and avid reader. Three years ago I went through chemotherapy to treat breast cancer and it affected my reading and writing skills.
I'm working to regain them and by finishing this list and interacting with other awesome readers I believe it can help.
I'm excited to be here 🙋🏾

Hi Sara! My name is Kate. I wanted to say hello because I am currently in graduate school for my MLIS degree and I also have a degree in Music History and Theory! I completely understand what it's like to work for a micromanaging boss. I hope you find a better job soon! :)

Amanda (readinginhonor) (readinginhonor) | 0 comments Hi Im Amanda, soon to be from Florida (moving next week) and I have been doing this challenge in honor of my mother who passed away back in December. She LOVE to read and always made time for it so I am doing my best to also do that - I am on book 7 so I feel good about that because I rarely have time to read (which is why I have had to give in to Audible). Im determined to finish the 2017 list even if I go into 2018

message 571: by Tallyho (new)

Tallyho Hello! I'm Mindy from Ohio. I've been lurking on the prompt "suggestions" posts for quite awhile. I'm 42 books into my challenge for the year. My GR challenge was defeated awhile ago, I had set it at 52 and have already read 98 books. I might have a problem. LOL.

message 572: by Mari (new)

Mari Chaskel | 1 comments Hi, I'm a 30-year old new stay-at-home to an almost 8-month old baby boy from NYC. Before becoming a mother I worked in the non-profit world fresh out of college, and then switched gears and worked in the fashion industry for a number of glossies which I then parlayed into freelance writing and editing work. Most recently, I was still freelancing while working toward medical school in a post-bacc pre-med program. Unfortunately, I had some health setbacks and my husband and I decided to start a family sooner than we had initially planned which led to my taking a leave of absence from school.

I've always been a bibliophile and I'm hoping to instill the same love of reading in my son! Although being a new mother is incredibly busy I'm finally able to sneak in some reading time now that my son is a little older and I can't wait to dive in to some great books again. I joined a book club on a parenting website that I frequent and I came across this reading challenge recently and was immediately intrigued. So, here I am! Ready to get reading!

message 573: by Angelique (new)

Angelique Hi, I'm Angelique (49) an avid reader from the Netherlands. I'm also a mother of two boys who hate reading. Lucky for me, they do not object to me reading and only complain a tiny bit about my book hoarding tendencies. But I've found a way of dealing with that: I'm going to start a little free library at work.

Anyway, about this popsugar thing
I tried to do this challenge in 2016, but didn't get very far, so at the start of 2017 I set myself a goal of 12 books (1 each month). But since I reached that number early may, I changed it to read at least 30 clues for this year. Right now my counter is at 22, so maybe I'll change it again in the near future.

And why am I mad enough to try this challenge? Because I want to read books I normally wouldn't have tried.

Patricia | 1 comments Hey everyone, I'm Patricia from New York. I recently completed my Masters of Education and found myself wanting to read more for fun than for chore I found this reading challenge and I am excited to start finding books for the prompts. I look forward to talking with all of you and getting some great ideas any tips would greatly be appreciated. Happy reading

message 575: by Lu (new)

Lu (beltari) | 5 comments Hello everybody! I'm Luciana from Argentina. This is the third time I take this challenge but I haven't been able to finish it even once :(
I decided that I need help and figured that there should be a group here about it and I was right :D
I'm so grateful that this place exists! I found plenty of books for a few prompts I have no idea how to fill <3

message 576: by Raven (new)

Raven | 5 comments HI!

I'm Raven! I've been doing the Pop Sugar challenge for the last two years and I'm super psyched to have found this group! There are always a few prompts I have trouble finding books for so this will be helpful for next year's reading challenge!

message 577: by Chantal (new)

Chantal Grech | 6 comments Hello, I'm Chantal and I've been attempting to do these reading challenges for years as a way to mix up what I'm reading. I apparently don't like being told what to read even by myself and have struggled to finish them. I've finally decided that I will not only finish this years challenge but 2016 and 2015s as well!

message 578: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 2377 comments I'm Theresa, an attorney living in NYC. I actually have been posting to this group's weekly check-ins since January but actually never read the 'Welcome' materials until now, LOL!

I actually discovered Pop Sugar challenge in 2016 when one of my friends asked if I was game to do it with her - we are both avid readers. We roped another couple of friends into it, set up quarterly 'lunch/brunch' meetings to discuss progress, and off we went. We loved it so much, we did it again this year, adding several more members to our 'Challenge Reading Group' who participate virtually. We still meet for lunch/brunch and bring our distant participants in via video chat on smartphones!

Besides being an avid and eclectic reader and book owner, I love cultural events (opera, theater, museums), travel, and needlework (cross stitch and needlepoint mostly). Most of my friends are also avid readers; talking books is a daily experience.

I've been an avid reader since I was 10 years old and my brother gifted me with 3 Nancy Drew mysteries. That was 52 years ago, and I've had a lot of books in my life since. One of my self-imposed rules is to fill challenge prompts by reading as many books from those I already own, either in print or ebook, as possible because I own a LOT of books. One of the amazing benefits of that self-imposed rule is that most of the books have been wonderful reads, rarely a dud. I think its because something about the book appealed to me when I bought it that had nothing at all to do with filling some challenge prompt.

This year I decided to see what kind of group experience I could find on Good Reads, using GR more than in the past, and I found this amazing group! It has added to the experience immeasurably.

message 579: by Diane (new)

Diane Lupton | 136 comments Hello. I am Diane from Florida. I have been reading/stalking this challenge since January but I haven't been brave enough to post anything until now. My reading goal for the year is a measly 12 books. I love reading and make a point to read at least a quarter of a book each week (hence the 12 books in a year). I am blown away by the number of books everyone on here reads. I don't know how you do it.

I have a very small group of friends on Facebook (less than 20 of us) that I run a theme based challenge for. I post 1 theme a month and they can choose to read something or not. Because of the smallness and sometimes lack of participation of that group I am looking for something with a little more going on on a regular basis, so I stumbled upon this group for my personal reading challenge. As I said before I only tend to read a book, maybe 2, a month so I don't see how I would possibly finish this challenge but I enjoy the themes and bookish chats.

About 2 years ago I realized I was reading the same authors over and over again and I needed something different. I went out on a limb during a school book fair I was working and bought The Blood of Flowers by Anita Amirrezvani. It was wonderful and opened my eyes to read as many different types of books as I could. No more mainstream for me. Since then I have been choosing my books from a list of 137 themes (so far). I started at the top and I am continuing right down the list in order. By doing this I have read a play, short stories, award winners, classics and even a graphic novel that I would have never even thought to pick up before.

Yesterday I beat my reading challenge by completing my 13th book for the year, so I decided as a reward I would be brave and start posting on here instead of stalking. It is scary when you accomplish 13 books while everyone else is reading 60 but you all seem very friendly. I look forward to pushing myself to read more each year.

message 580: by Tara (new)

Tara Bates | 1008 comments Welcome Diane! We're all here to improve the quantity, diversity and/or quality of our reading. This is an individual challenge not a competition. I feel the same way when I see people who have read 3-4 books in a week lol I usually can do 1 or 2 and feel on the extreme low end sometimes but when I look at my in real life friends I'm at the very top. It doesn't matter. Great for you getting to your personal goal so early!! I love the idea of a long term type challenge where you're working your way down the list at your own pace!

message 581: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Hello! My name is Patricia. I'm from Northern California. I've been retired about 10 years and have upped my reading time. I love books and try to read many different genres. I happened on this group tonight through Bookbub on Pinterest. It seems like a really fun group and I am game for the challenges. Besides reading, my other "hobbies" are gardening, quilting and playing mahjong at least once a week with a group of friends. I am in a reading group in my town that reads 12 books a year and there are 12 of us. I'm getting a lot of ideas as I go through the lists others have read. So glad you are here.

message 582: by Maia (new)

Maia (maisasovsky) | 2 comments Hi Everyone! My name is Maia, I am a full time lawyer in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I have been following the group for several months now, but never found the time/courage to post anything.

This is my first year in this challenge, a friend of mine suggested it to me because after my father's death I had somehow lost the ability to go through an entire book. I was so sad!! I had always LOVED reading, and I was so stucked it made me (more) sad. Anyway, the challenge worked magic for me, I found myself reading as avidly as always, and with the addition that the challenge makes you read such a variety of books!! I am enchanted, really.

I must confess, though, that I have been cheating -a lot. I do not have the time to complete the challenge (even the regular one) bc I usually work long hours, so I thought a good compromise would be to read books that fit simultaneously in two prompts, so that by the end of the year I would have read 20 books (which is a huge progress, coming from zero!), kind of a soft landing. That´s why I haven't posted my list either, it´s a cheat-list :P

Anyway, as I said, I´ve been following you guys a lot, and took so many recommendations (which I enjoyed a lot!!), that I don´t think I could have come so far without you - big thanks!!

So far I have read 17 books, so considering that there are three more months ahead, I might read single-prompt books from now on.

Again, thanks a lot for such amazing group!! Maia.

message 583: by Monica (new)

Monica Tomasello | 7 comments Welcome to the group Maia! I always look at book challenges as ways to stretch myself as a reader. You have done that. I haven't finished one of these yet, but I find that I do read a lot of books that I might not have picked up otherwise and it makes me keep on reading throughout the year.

I also challenge myself on Goodreads to read a certain number of books each year. Since you've challenged yourself to 20 this year, perhaps you can challenge yourself to 25 next year. Good luck!

Agnes (aggie2003) | 1 comments 10.04.2017 -

I just saw the PopSugar reading challenge and that directed me here. I haven't read in a really long time. I start a book then don't finish.

It's never too late to start reading so I'm excited to dive in for the remaining 3 months of the year.

WOOT :)

Jess (seejessread) | 248 comments Hi. I'm Jessica from Las Vegas. I like challenges and although I may not be able to keep up I love the idea of trying. I found this group from around the year group which I started mid year. I look forward to the challenge of doing both in 2018. From past reading goals I succeed on even years! Can't wait to get started

message 587: by Trina (new)

Trina Dubya (trina_dubya) Hi, everyone! I'm Trina, 43, cis female, from Southern California, and this is the second year that I've done the PopSugar Ultimate Reading Challenge. I finished in 2015 and have ten or eleven books to go this year. (My total reading goal is 64 books for the year -- I always read books that don't fit categories -- so it's a book a week for the challenge and at least one book a month that is just for fun.)

I love reading challenges like this, because they encourage me to read stuff I normally wouldn't consider. And I like when I need to ask a friend or relative for a recommendation. I've found some really wonderful books this way!

message 588: by Lynne (new)

Lynne Wagner (lexemom) | 4 comments Hello all! I'm Lynne and from NW Ohio. I'm a bit obsessed with reading and only recently found out about this challenge. I'm always looking for new ideas of what to read and I thought that this would be the perfect venue. I'm an English professor and photographer during the day, but you'll find me curled up with a new book almost every evening.
