message 1: by Ann (new)

Ann Hello all and welcome!! I thought I'd make a thread for introductions so we could all get to know each other a bit. I'm Ann the moderator of this group. I'm a 30 year old stay at home of one little girl named Lola. I'm from beautiful Kalispell, Montana. I love reading all types of books. I mostly read either young adult fantasy/fiction or mystery/thrillers. I'm trying to expand my reading to other genres more and I think this challenge will help that. I'm hoping to read all 50 books by the end of 2015!

Say hello and let us know where you're from and how you heard about this group. Enjoy!

message 2: by Mary Ann (new)

Mary Ann (marranni) Hi! I'm Mary Ann. Hubby & I just moved to North Carolina. We're originally from Ohio. I want to do this challenge because I've been stuck in a rut reading the same types of books all the time & this looked like a great group to do it with!

message 3: by Leah (new)

Leah | 30 comments I'm Leah. I am also a Montana girl. I've always loved to read and this challenge sounded fun. It adds to the challenge I already have for myself to read more each new year than I did the last. I read all kinds of books and usually have two going at once. Some of my favorite authors are Jasper Fforde, Gregory Maguire, Douglas Adams, Anne Rice, and Fannie Flagg. I am super excited to start this challenge, and good luck to you all!

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm Dave. I am a librarian in Little Rock, Arkansas. many of the prompts on the list looked like fun -although, some could use some clarification. Like the rest of you, I'm looking forward to diversifying the books I read and expanding my worldview in the process.

message 5: by Anne (new)

Anne (texanne) Hi everyone, I'm Anne from Austin, TX. I don't usually have a problem reading 52 books per year but I do have a problem with books that have accumulated beyond the capacity of my home bookshelves so I'm going to try to do this challenge by reading only from those shelves in hopes of getting to some of those books I once felt I absolutely had to own but never got around to reading.

message 6: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Blaylock (samanthakwasney) I am Samantha, wishing I was a Montana girl again, but alas I am in Memphis TN. I recently became a mom of 5, my own two and now three step sons. I homeschooling my two and run a home daycare, so my biggest challenge right now is getting to read like I would love. hoping being apart of the group will help me stay motivated to make more time!!

message 7: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Kwasney | 1 comments Hey, everyone! I am Ashley and I live in Somers, MT. I read over 75 books this year and an excited to try this list of 50 because it will be a challenge to find a book to fit some of these categories. Should be fun. There is only one book I never finished. So that one is easy to find but going to be hard to finish. I love reading from most genres of books. I plan to skip around on the list. Here is a question... there are technically 66 books in the Bible which I read all the way through each year. Do you count the Bible as one book or each book in the Bible separately? Because if you count them separately, then you could fulfill a number of items on the list. Hehehe. I plan to count the Bible as one book and each book I read will fulfill only one item on the list. Makes it more of a challenge that way. :)

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello there! I'm Sam. 23, living in Virginia. I love reading - have ever since I could read - but over time my reading has decreased. I'm hoping that this challenge will help get my butt in gear as well as expose me to some new reading material.

I look forward to reading and chatting with everyone!

message 9: by Mary Ann (new)

Mary Ann (marranni) I read through the Bible & counted it as one book but I wish I would've counted them separately!

Hey, I'm Lana, from Croatia. I'm going to art school, and apart from drawing and painting my hobbies are reading and writing. I read mostly fantasy and YA, but I usually don't judge a book by the genre, so I often read other genres as well.
This is actually my first reading challenge, so I'm really looking forward to finishing it!

message 19: by Brooke (new)

Brooke | 10 comments Hey everyone. :) My name is Brooke. I'm 22 and from NE. I love to read and joined this group because I have been wanting to broaden my reading horizons. message 26: by Georgia (new)

Georgia | 4 comments Hi, I am Georgia, and I am from Madeira Beach, FL. I am excited about this challenge, because I want to read different books. I gravitate towards mystery, so looking forward to this group, and help to navigate away from my mysteries..... This is also my first book challenge.

message 27: by Anna (new)

Anna Rebecca (annarebecca) I'm from Florida, 40 years old, work for the government. I have one son who is leaving home this summer for the military. Then it will be just me and the cats and dogs. I know I'll be depressed, well more depressed, when he leaves. Reading offers an escape while I go through empty nest syndrome, so this challenge will not only be fun, but will also be helpful! When I saw the challenge on Tumblr it looked like a great way to broaden my reading horizons and then I found this group, so it just seemed meant to be!

message 28: by Guylian (new)

Guylian Hi, I'm Miriam from Munich, Germany. Currently, I am reading book #84 which means in the end I will have read 85 books in 2014. For 2015 the big goal is 100. Looking forward to starting this very cool challenge and to communicate with the other book enthusiasts from all around the globe.

Burcu | 5 comments Hi! This challenge is the reason I signed up for goodreads as it's a part of my new year's resolution for 2015 also a new way to clear up my to read list. I thought it would be more fun to see others who do the same challenge.

message 31: by Betwixt the (new)

Betwixt the Pages (betwixtthesepages) | 3 comments Hi! I'm Beth. I'm from Powell, Wyoming. I saw this challenge on Tumblr and knew I wanted to somehow incorporate it into my reading challenge(s) for 2015. I was excited when, just a moment ago, I found out this group existed! I'm hoping to read at least 50 books next year. Currently trying to finish House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski before 2015 rolls around for a fresh reading start.

message 32: by Martta (new)

Martta (themarttaship) Hello! I'm Maarten, I'm 16 years old and I live in Europe. I saw this on Tumblr and already decided to try, and now with the group I'll have more motivation! I have read a lot more than 50 (or 52) books this year but it will be a challenge to read all the different books I don't usually pick up.

message 33: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidi28) Hi! I'm Heidi, from Wales (UK). I own a stupid amount of books & ebooks which I haven't read yet, so hopefully this challenge will encourage me to read them instead of buying too many more!

message 34: by Ryan (new)

Ryan (the-rybrary) Hey! I'm Ryan from Ontario, Canada. I also saw the challenge on Tumblr and I'm excited to try it out. I started reading a lot more after finishing university this past spring so I'm excited to have a whole year to read to my heart's content.

message 35: by Laura (new)

Laura Hi All!
I'm Laura from the Netherlands. After deciding to do this challenge I saw this group so I thought it would be fun to join in and see what books you'll be reading. I'd like to use this challenge to widen my horizen a bit and read a bit more diversely (also, read lots of stuff I already have on my shelf but never touched.. I think I could probably complete this challenge without buying a single book :p).

message 36: by Vickie (new)

Vickie (vchappy) | 10 comments Hi! I'm Vickie. For the past two years I've done a reading challenges with the Literary Exploration group which was a fun way to try out genres I don't typically read. I love the prompts for this reading challenge and I'm going to try to combine this with the genre based challenge. I had a lot of fun this morning doing some research for prompt #43 a book set in your hometown or surrounding area. There are lots of stories that take place in the San Francisco Bay Area but I found one that takes place in my hometown set in the 40s. Now to hunt down the book!

message 37: by Jenica (new)

Jenica | 2 comments Hi. I'm Jenica. I live in Utah and have a time consuming government job. When j have time, I mostly read dystopia/YA books but wouldn't mind broadening my genres. I'm happy to be a part of this group and look forward to reading books that fit the criteria this year.

message 38: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Hello. I'm Nicole. I currently live in Southern California. I haven't been a Goodreads user long but I love having a place to connect with other readers. I decided to join the Challenge to encourage myself to read a broader range of books. I mix it up pretty well but can find myself back in my comfort zones (popular fiction & chick lit). Hope to find encouragement and book suggestions here :)

message 41: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Reynolds | 6 comments Hello. I'm Jen. I took this challenge because I love reading but find myself reading the same types of books and not venturing out for anything different. So this should help with that. I usually don't read this many books in a year with work and kids and life, but will give it a shot.

message 42: by Kiki (new)

Kiki | 8 comments Hello to everyone! I am Kiki from Germany and I am looking forward to this challenge hopefully making me read books that I normally wouldn't (especially the one that I always owned but never read, finally get that done with :))

message 43: by Mindy (new)

Mindy (mindyej) Hi everyone! I'm Mindy and I'm a mom of two seven year old girls. I'm also in a big time reading rut and this challenge came along at just the right time. My library posted a link on Facebook and I just had to jump on board. I used to be a five books a week kind of person pre-kids and even easily a book or two a week post kids but since starting to work AND having kids I've slowed WAY down (it took me six weeks to finish a typical book by a used to be favorite author). I was also tending to read the same types of books over and over so this will give me a good chance to stretch my wings while still being able to visit some old favorites as well. I'm trying to find a good way to make this list mobile and paperless so I can keep track on my phone.

message 44: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (ahalfbloodfangirl) | 2 comments Good morning:) I saw this challenge on Instagram and thought it was a great idea. I'm so glad that I have been able to find it on Goodreads. I'm a 42 year old book geek and music addict. Ok, throw in makeup as well. lol I live in So. Cal. I always tell my family I'm going to church and they've all come to learn it means the bookstore. Who knows if I'll be able to finish this one but I think it's a great way to challenge me to read books outside of YA.

Good luck to everyone:)

Have you thought of trying to use Pinterest? I think I will make a board for this challenge. I also began pinning all the books I read each year there as well.

I'm using Onenote from Live.com to keep my list accessable on my phone. I can use it on the computer and the phone app on my iPhone (not sure if you've got a compatible phone). They link up with each other and update each other. It's just a simple word processor. Michelle also had a great idea with Pinterest.

message 47: by Sara (new)

Sara (sarasofiara) Hi everyone! I'm Sara, a 17-year old bookish person from Sweden! Also I started reading a lot of graphic novels this year and found that I reaaaally like them! :)
