Clarice Lispector's The Complete Stories is being published by New Directions in August, and I'm very excited for it already. I've read a few of her stories that were published in The Paris Review a few years ago, but I have no idea what her novels are like. Any tips for a beginner?

I'll be starting my Lispector completion book list come Jan'2015. The first on my list The Passion According to G.H..Wiki:- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clarice_...
I wish I could offer more help, but I've read only The Hour of the Star. It's short enough to read in one sitting, but it creates a lasting impact. It may be a good introduction to her other works.

Passion According to G.H. is what I always recommend to those first starting out with Lispector's work - and I've come across several others just recently who have also recommended that same text themselves.

Thank you for this! Adding her. I will be saying this a lot. My reading, until recently, mostly consisted of dead authors who were mostly all European men.

Starting with The Hour of the Star worked out well enough for me. I also have A Breath of Life if anyone wants a reading partner for that one.

I have Passion According to G.H. and A Breath of Life and near to the Wild Heart and maybe one or 2 more. So, being a Lispector newbie, I'd be prepared to jump on a wagon - maybe Passion?
Thanks everyone, I've decided to start with Passion According to G.H. I'll probably start in the next month of two, if anyone is interested in joining me.
Oops, I think I've overloaded my Jan/Feb schedule a bit... er.. would you guys mind moving it on slightly to March? :P

Good, long article about Lispector in the New Yorker:http://www.newyorker.com/books/page-t...
This is a record of woman’s entire life, written over the course of a woman’s entire life. As such, it seems to be the first such total record written in fiction, in any language.
I want to thanks this group for introducing me to, now, one of my favorite writers. I've written a review on The Foreign Legion. It's basically me fawning over her supreme intellect & literary craftsmanship.
