This YA series probably came out in the late 90s or early 2000s. Each book has the book number in the title. This boy/teen that goes through each of these realms has to fight through them. Each book focuses on the different realm. There is an underwater realm, desert realm, jungle realm among others. I can't remember many more details.

Could it be the Pendragon books by DJ MacHale? Series of 10, though I don't know if the worlds he traveled to were called realms.
