message 106: by Natasa (new)

Natasa (natasa79) | 353 comments Hi guys, a quick hello from myself :) Hope all is peachy with everyone...I had quite a pause in reading in general...no, I wasn't doing anything exiting nor fun nor smart, I was just kind of lieng in bed and staring at the wall or sleeping. I guess I was depressed without even knowing I was and not even the books could help as I was overloaded with the text, audiobooks etc. One of the reasons I guess was also that my brother came on holiday to see myself and my mother first time after 20 years he has seen mother and I haven't seen him 15 years. Well, I have a great brother and I'm sorry I missed out so much. Seaking of it, no wonder I was depressed. Interesting how I just realized it. My father's death was relived again, he wasn't even able to come to the funerakl. Anyway, he's awesome and it's good to have some family finally. He'll come again maybe in May.

I missed you all guys and I missed Gr and reading in general. I think I'm getting back on track and I'm totally loving the idea of it :)

Not sure if I'll join this..I have quite a few of books I have started that I would love to finish...at least I hope I will.

Take care,
N.

I am glad you are enjoying it so far. It is definitely a fun book.

Also I want to see how happy I am to see Natasa post. I definitely miss her company, it was fun reading The Rising with her last year.

I hope we can get the group back together for our next buddy read.

Mehmet | 1241 comments Nice to see our old buddies popping in Lisa and Natasa. I agree with Jonathan, nice to have another buddy read all together again. Natasa sorry to hear about your depression, I hope you have people close to you that can help you through this hard time. Hopefully reading again helps you cheer you up.
ESLR hopefully you enjoy Ghost Walk more. Dark Hollow surprised me also, hope you enjoy the story more as you progress.

Talking about Buddy read, just wanted to ask everyone if 9th febuary be a good date to start the 3 rd book in the series A Gathering of Crows. Please everyone give your opinions :-)

message 114: by Mehmet (new)

Mehmet | 1241 comments Adam what is the real life legend compared to the Brian Keene novel version ?

message 115: by Eden (new)

Eden Silverfox (tsalagi_writer) | 41 comments Mehmet wrote: "Adam what is the real life legend compared to the Brian Keene novel version ?"

I live in Pennsylvania like Adam does, but I live in Lancaster county. It's not too far from York.

Rehmeyer's Hollow is where Nelson Rehmeyer lived and he was known as a Powwow doctor. He was murdered by John Blymire and another man because John believed Nelson Rehmeyer had put a hex on him. This link will give you a bit more information about it: http://www.crimelibrary.com/notorious...

message 116: by Mehmet (new)

Mehmet | 1241 comments Thanks Eden that is great information :-)

message 117: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Echevarria (gabrielzero) | 862 comments Yes. Thank you! I didn't know about that.

=)

message 118: by Eden (new)

Eden Silverfox (tsalagi_writer) | 41 comments You're welcome. I researched Rehmeyer's Hollow a few years ago. Besides reading online, I found a few books about it too. Hex by Arthur H. Lewis and Trials Of Hex by J. Ross McGinnis. Both have a lot of information.

I went to Rehmeyer's Hollow once back in 2009. I like ghost hunting and I am in a paranormal group. So we went there and were trying to find the house where Nelson Rehmeyer lived. We were unable to find the house, but the whole area is very spooky and from the minute we got there it felt as if we were being watched. We had a few experiences there too.

In my opinion, the area is very haunted. I could feel it very strongly.

message 119: by Mehmet (new)

Mehmet | 1241 comments Have they turned the house into a sort of museum for the history of the area ?

message 120: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Echevarria (gabrielzero) | 862 comments I like Ghost Hunting too and it's a shame I can't find others to do it with me. I live in the Hudson Valley and we're suppose to have a few hot spots in the area. But unfortunately we also have a lot of laws that keep novices like me out.

The closest I ever came to visiting one was this place: http://www.ghosttowns.com/states/ny/p...

message 121: by Mehmet (new)

Mehmet | 1241 comments The county I work in Hertfordshire had many ghost stories. There is a hotel that me and my wife visited that suppose to be haunted. The oldest part of the building is often said by customers to be plagued with strange sounds of people walking and ghost. I never experienced anything when we stayed the night, although the stories I read about the place freaked me out !

Sorry you can't find people to go with you or really any places you can go.

I've been to Gettysburg a lot, other places in Pennsylvania and some places in Maryland. If you lived closer, I'd invite you to come along with me when I go. It is really just me, my mom and boyfriend that go anymore. We had other members in our group, but we had to let them go because they were causing a lot of problems.

Mehmet wrote: "Have they turned the house into a sort of museum for the history of the area ?"

Nelson Rehmeyer's great-grandson owns the house and property. He wanted to open it up and let people tour it. But it hasn't happened. From what I know, he was having trouble getting the permits to do it. The one article I read a while back said the zoning board rejected his permit, and that was back in 2007 or 2008, I believe. I don't know if it will ever be opened to the public, which too bad.

Jonathan Echevarria (gabrielzero) | 862 comments Have you been to the area that inspired Stone Tears?

Stone Tears by Brian Keene

message 124: by Eden (new)

Eden Silverfox (tsalagi_writer) | 41 comments I haven't read Stone Tears. What area inspired it?

message 125: by Jonathan (last edited Jan 31, 2015 05:37PM) (new)

Jonathan Echevarria (gabrielzero) | 862 comments Stone Tears references the petroglyphs in the Susquehanna river. It is a prequel to Dark Hollow and is all about Nelson LeHorn.

=)

You can read Stone Tears in the short story collection called Blood on the Page: The Complete Short Fiction of Brian Keene, Volume 1.

message 126: by Eden (new)

Eden Silverfox (tsalagi_writer) | 41 comments I've heard about the petroglyphs, but have never been there.

message 127: by Mehmet (new)

message 128: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Echevarria (gabrielzero) | 862 comments I am doing great. So excited about the new Labyrinth series Brian has going. It really does tie a lot of his mythos together.

Eat.Sleep.Lift.Read. (misanthropic_scribe) | 41 comments Hey dudes and dudettes, finished Dark Hollow, BOOYAH

(view spoiler)

message 131: by Maxine Marsh (new)

Maxine Marsh | 737 comments I finished Dark Hollow finally! It was a sort of middle of the road read for me, the first half being pretty boring but the second half was action-packed and much much better. I really love the mythical aspects of the plot and definitely want to continue with the second book. Its pretty pricey on Amazon, is there anyone here who could lend me the Kindle version??? If I get through it quick enough, I could catch up in time for the 3rd book!

message 132: by Mehmet (new)

Mehmet | 1241 comments Sorry Maxine but I live in UK and do not have ability to lend kindle books. :-(

message 133: by Mehmet (new)

Mehmet | 1241 comments Glad you both enjoyed the book though :-)

message 134: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Echevarria (gabrielzero) | 862 comments I have the paperback one so I am sorry I can't lend it to you. :(

Most of my Brian Keene books are paperback.

Did you guys know about Brian Keene's podcast? You should give it a listen since it is free.

message 135: by Mehmet (new)

Mehmet | 1241 comments Brian Keene podcast !!!!! Wow I got to check that out :-) does he talk himself or someone talks on his behalf ?

Me too. I run around like crazy everytime I read a Brian Keene book. (Or like a half starved Clicker.) =)

I got my old friend from high school reading the Labyrinth mythology recently. I started him with The Rising, then Earthworm Gods. He is currently reading Dark Hollow and then The Lost Level.

^_^

message 143: by Kate (new)

Kate | 3525 comments I am a terrible buddy reader! I read the first 10% and it's not clicking with me at the moment. I'm going to put it down and try it again in a couple of months.

It could just be the start of the year and too many books floating around my head. Sorry, guys. :(

message 144: by Jonathan (last edited Feb 01, 2015 10:45AM) (new)

Jonathan Echevarria (gabrielzero) | 862 comments That is ok Kate. =)

I hope you join us in the future for a different buddy read.

I found this sneak peak of a the new Levi Stoltzfus novel coming out this year. It is called Invisible Monsters. Link: https://www.facebook.com/permalink.ph...

message 145: by Mehmet (new)

Maxine I did reach out to a friend and asked her if she could lend you a copy of Ghost Walk. =) I'll let you know when she gets back to me.
