AquaMoon (aqua_moon) | 12 comments I'm looking for a very particular Chose Your Adventure-type book I remember from childhood. In it, the character ("you") discovers a secret door at the back of his/her/their/your closet, which leads to another world. This is NOT in the Narnia series. I read it back in the mid-80s (so I would guess it was published anywhere from 1980-1987).

The only other particular detail I recall is at one crossroads the character is asked to mix colors to make purple. The choices were: Red + Blue, Yellow + Blue, and All The Colors (which made a goopy, drippy black and was obviously the wrong choice). I'm guessing it was a book geared to younger children, since an older child would know what colors mix to make what.

I'm not sure if it was actually in the Chose Your Own Adventure series or one of the many knock-offs, which were popular at the time. I don't even recall the premise of the story, Only the details about the door and the colors.

I would like to find it again, only to relieve that nagging "what was that book again?" feeling.

Thank you

Rainbowheart | 28668 comments I remember two younger versions of CYOA from that time period.

Do either of these series look right?

I wish I could say. I don't recall what the cover looked like, unfortunately. Only a couple interior illustrations: One of the character discovering a door in the closet and the other of the goopy, streaky mess created when all the colors were mixed together. I think it could be one of the first. I'll have a look. Thank you.

Rainbowheart | 28668 comments Were the illustrations themselves in color?

That would rule out either of the above series. They just had B&W pictures.

Maybe The Enchanted Forest?

Rainbowheart | 28668 comments I think this may be it!

The Magic Carpet mentions going through a secret door in the closet.

Rainbowheart | 28668 comments Awesome, glad that was the right one!

And thanks to Rosa for mentioning the Which Way Secret Door series. I had forgotten all about it. I even found a book I used to have, Brontosaurus Moves In.
