Buddy Read Requests
I m up to number 4 of the Cormoran Strike series Lethal White by Robert Galbraith (aka JK Rowling) anyone like to join me?
Rita wrote: "I loved the first 3 books but I gave Lethal White only one star. I'm tempted to reread it sometime but not right now.It was very long. I felt that it was badly in need of editing. ..."
Did you think it was very different from the first 3 ? I am going to be listening to it. I have enjoyed the first three although the one about limbs was a bit too gory for my liking!
This book was too darn long. Some editor should have stood up to her because I think 200 pages could have been cut and it would have been a better book.
Both she and Elizabeth George need some editors with guts to stand up to them. Or study C.J. Sansom. His books are long but I never feel like they need editing.
Regarding Lethal White - I listen to those books on audio because the narrator is so fantastic. That one I had to “rewind” A LOT because the whole plot/crime confused the heck outta me. I’m still not really sure how it was resolved. I think I moved on from that book after spending so much time on it lol.

Sometimes I think I should just take notes as I read!! Looks like this one is a mixed bag but I'll give it a go!
I have read the first five Crispin books and the weakest in the series is the first book, The Case of the Guilded Fly. I recently read Swan Song but would gladly reread the other books in the series, or read a new one to me.
I thought Lethal White was the best one yet. I listened to the audiobook. Here's my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Do we have an agreement about a buddy read yet? Feel free to suggest or request others. When you have three people for one I'll post a thread.
Rita wrote: "I know that Susan and Rosemarie have expressed an interest in an Edmund Crispin buddy read. No book has been picked out yet. Is anyone else interested? Is there a book preference? I know nothing ab..."I would be happy to reread as long as it isn't the first book. I was introduced to the series with The Moving Toyshop which is the 3rd book of the series & one of the best in my opinion. But if folks want to read the 2nd, Holy Disorders, that is fine with me too.
I would really enjoy reading The Moving Toyshop again. I don't remember the details but I know it was a good one.
Could we stick to beginning of the month, or mid-month starts please? It's easier for people to remember then, and gives others chance to join in if they wish to. Thanks.
Anyone read Ann Granger’s Campbell and Carter series? Am listening to the first one and enjoying it. Mud Muck and Mayhem!
Well just in case, I looked to see if it was actually called "Mud Muck and Mayhem", but it doesn't seem to be. Do you have a title, Penny?
Jean, I was thinking of how much I enjoyed our buddy read of Inspector Morse and thought Inspector Wexford by Ruth Rendell would be perfect. There are 22 books and we would do one a month. I could moderate. Are there any people interested in joining me?

That's a brilliant idea, thanks Susan! And thanks for volunteering :) I've posted a thread for you with a temporary title, but if you can think of a snappier one I can easily change it. Organise it however you like.
I'm also messaging you with a similar on-going buddy read (about Poirot) I host in another group, in case it's of any help.
This is exciting! I'll certainly join in with a few, since it will run for nearly 2 years.

Thanks Penny. Mud, Muck and Dead Things by Ann Granger. Apparently her 25th crime novel! There must be some fans here :)
Would anyone like to read one of the runners-up in our poll? Or suggest another for a buddy read?
Yes, please don't forget that one, and let me know if anyone would like to choose another book for a buddy read with just a couple of others :)
Just today and tomorrow left to organise another quick buddy read for April ... or anything you suggest can start mid- April, if you like.
Hi everyone,
Since we now know what we'll be reading as a group, now might be a good time to plan any buddy reads for May.
We already have one planned :)
However, if you'd like to read one of the runners-up with 2 or 3 people, or something completely different, please say here.

Would anyone like to buddy read One, Two, Buckle My Shoe by Agatha Christieor The Hollow by Agatha Christie
Both are Hercule Poirot mysteries that I haven't read before. I hope to read them in July if we don't already have a buddy read.

I would love to do it, I’ve read both before, but I don’t remember the ending of The Hollow just thinking about it. I do know One, Two, Buckle My Shoe pretty much by heart though, but I have both. With Charles Dickens, Agatha Christie is my favorite author.

I would love to buddy read both these books! In fact, One, Two, Buckle My Shoe has been on my reading list since long!
I'd like to join for either The Hollow or One, Two, Buckle My Shoe! I must have read them ages ago, so would be great to re-visit.
There seems to be a lot of interest. I am not bothered which book it is so please can you state if you have a preference of 1 over the other. Or just post ' no preference'Thanks

Hi Tracy, sorry I somehow missed this message. My preference would be for One, Two, Buckle My Shoe - thanks :)

We will be reading One, Two, Buckle My Shoe starting 1st July.

I can't wait... now, I just have to search for it or I might buy it again as an audio to change things around the narrator is Hugh Fraser.
Would anyone else like to buddy read a book with a couple of other members? Just say what you'd like to read here, and see if anyone takes you up on it :)
We need at least three, before the thread can be posted, but you can start any time.

Hi Mystery lovers, well we have some great books on the poll at the minute for December's Group read, but one that I would really like to read The Christmas Egg: A Seasonal Mystery by Mary Kelly. Unfortunately this does not look like it will win the poll, so I am wondering if there are people out there who would be interested in a Buddy read even if it doesn't win the poll ??
I looked at The Christmas Egg as well, Adrian, France-Andrée and Michaela. I happen to have read Hercule Poirot's Christmas fairly recently and Portrait of a Murderer just earlier this year, so would be interested in joining in on this as a buddy read. Is it OK to have four of us?

This is the thread where you can suggest a book you'd like to do a buddy read of. Then other book club members come in, so you can plan it here, and agree when you want to do it.
I'll set up a thread for you in this folder, whenever you like :)
Anyone?
