"I am fascinated by product design and this is an engrossing history of the design of commercial products, which has been bent by technology to create the expectation that machines, should be built to anticipate human desire. From apple devices to Disney theme parks, or a next generation vegetable peeler, all of them have the user centric design which is the aesthetic of our era. An era in which successful products are now expected to give people what we want, rather than what we say we want, which is a mind-blowing difference. It’s an ethos which, when dragged to its conclusion, leads to screen addiction and the political turbulence in ways we have not quite appreciated nor worked out how to make tangible. See the story of Juul, as a zeitgeist example of that. This book is mind-stretching and easily readable. If Graham Potter was a book this would be him, and I mean that in a good way."
