2015 Finish What You Started

For this 2015 challenge:

Please post your shelves. NO COMMENTS in the main thread please. After I post the pair, I will add a link to the shelf, and then you can add discussion comments.

How It Will Work:
1) Please only post a list of 5 series that you have Already Started but now, you would like to get current on. There must be a minimum of TWO books remaining in your series.
*When listing your series, please only list the bookcovers in the series you have NOT read yet.
**Novellas are optional.

2) An assigned person will pick ONE series from your post series.

3) You have one month to try to read as many books in that series as you can—minimum two books in that series. (*if you don't, it's okay because this challenge is for YOUR ENJOYMENT)

4) Please try to select for your pair ASAP as we all get excited and waiting is torture to some.

Okay, I did a series challenge in 2013...I read 3 books, caught up, abandoned or finished 20 series and I started 41 series (read 41 #1 books) in 2013. I guess I'm not doing very good at closing up loose ends! :D

I did the 2014 FWYS challenge. Out of 136 books that I read in 2014, 97 were series books. I read 3 books in 1 series, abandoned 5 series, read the only book in 3 series, and caught up or finished 21 series and I started 24 series (read 24 #1 books and 10 were for R4Rs) this year. In 2014, I tried to work on started series and tried very hard after June not to start any new series.

I would like to finish or catch up 12 series in 2015. I am going to not be as strict about not starting series in 2015, but since I'm busier with my 2 jobs, I don't plan on reading as many R4Rs, so I won't start as many R4R series. I seem to be more busy in 2015, so I am only committing to reading 1 book in each series each month. But some progress is better than no progress.

Frustrated me when I tried to post my list
Wait, we usually have until the 20th to post our lists...I didn't check on the 14th cuz the thread doesn't usually open until the 15th...I'm so confused!

Marla, the dates for posting your shelf can change from month to month based on what holidays are occurring and the schedule of the mod posting the challenge. You can't rely that it will be the same deadline from month to month.

Ezi sent out a group e-mail around the 16th, reminding everyone that the challenge was going on. You posted your shelf after pairs had been posted for about 3 hours, and you had an abundance of time before that to get it posted. Ezi will have final say on if you get in on re-picks or not, but from the way it is going right now, everyone is pretty well on the ball and re-picks may not be needed.

Sometimes, it takes checking on Goodreads daily if you're wanting to get in on timed challenges like this. I nearly missed it myself, as I didn't notice the thread until the 15th, and it had opened up on the 12th, going until the 18th. I'd make it a point to start looking for it around the 10th, that way I don't miss it again.

I did totally forget to come back and pick for Dusty Bookshelf this month, but when did I miss FWYS? I forgot to post for FWYS many months and I was very bummed. In fact, I just stopped playing. But I don't recall ever not picking for anyone.

Late postings get you on the Naughty List, just like not picking for your partner does, as does incomplete posts (which you haven't had, but others have). You had late postings in September and December of 2015 for FWYS and then not picking for your partner in May 2016's DB. I probably should not have phrased it all as a miss, but I didn't want to spell out every infraction for public consumption either. All these things make it difficult for the challenges to run smoothly.

I saw your explanation to Clare as to why you missed picking for her in the thread. I think it would have been better if you had contacted one of the mods and let them know you were going to be out of town. Had I been aware of that, I would have paired you with myself, since I don't mind waiting for picks. I've done that in the past for those that are going to be out of town and it would have allowed you to go past the deadlines without being placed on the Naughty List. Communication is key when you're working with deadlines like this challenge has.

Ezi and I had discussed the situation briefly, but had not gotten very far with it. She's kind of left things in my hands for the month, since she was not the one posting the threads this month. Basically, we don't want members taking advantage and consistently posting late and expecting picks or not picking for those they are paired with. You've got a valid reason for not picking for your partner, so I'm not going to have it go against you by making you sit out of the challenges for a month. I'm sure Ezi will see your post as well, and will agree with my decision.

Please know that you are welcome to post in both DB and FWYS for June and beyond, as they are posted at practically the same time every month. You could post in one, then immediately post in the other, so you won't have late postings again. That's what I do when they get posted, just so I don't miss it. Just be sure to PM a mod if you'll be out of town and let them know your partner might get picks past deadline. However, be aware that I will be keeping track of Late Postings, Incomplete Posts, and Non Picks for Partners, not just for you, but on everyone participating in the threads. Feel free to contact me, if you think you can't get your FWYS list in on time, or even your DB shelf, or if there's a problem. I am more than happy to post it for you or try to sort it out so you won't miss out on the challenges!

Hey Trea,

Thanks for your reply, that's fair. I wish I had known that late postings would count against me on both challenges. I wouldn't have done it. But I really enjoyed participating in the FWYS and I miss it, but don't have time to commit to reading 2 books in the same series a month.

I travel quite often (I think), probably at least once a month or so, and usually I missed the posting deadlines, I had tried very hard not to miss picking for my partner, and succeeded until now. Thank you for the offer of posting my list for me, Ezi, has accommodated me previously in FWYS.

Knowing that if I should be late picking DB again, I will get publicly scolded, I think that might be too stressful, so I think this month will be my last DB. I've really enjoyed FWYS and DB for the last 2.5 years, but maybe it's time to move on to other things. I'll work on challenges where I won't be letting anyone down if I'm late, at least until my life is less hectic.

I'll see you in the Star Wars Challenge.

I can certainly understand about life being hectic and stressful, in addition to not wanting to let people down. Just know that you're welcome back anytime things slow down enough for you to be able to participate.
