I purchased the book at a used book store about 10 years ago. It was modern time. The toy company works on top secret projects and they get hacked. Her really good friend owns the security company and sends his business partner to find the hacker. The security company deels in special ops for the government.
Someone is trying to buy her out but she declined. The toy I remember is some kind of wand.
They initially pretend to be together but really fall in love. They have some kind of mental bond.

I think thee toys were for kids but they used some kind of wand and updated it with magic. It was able to show a halogram of some sort of the explosion in the parking garage that killed an employee.
