There is something out there. No-one knows what it is but if you see it you'll go mad and kill yourself and others. Survivors start to barricade themselves in their houses, putting blankets over the windows and only venturing outside blindfolded. Malorie and her children are travelling to a safer place, she hopes.....

At first, I didn't really enjoy this and found the writing disjointed and confusing but as it got to the half-way mark I started to get more into it and it became really creepy. I read through lunch yesterday and then spent the afternoon alone in our office wishing I hadn't! The story is told from Malorie's point of view and because she can't look around her she has to rely on hearing so every slight sound is important. In our very old building there are a lot of noises!

This reminded me of The Day of The Triffids and it poses the same question. In a situation like this are you most at threat from the monster, from your fellow man or from your own mind?
