SOLVED. Mystery YA where someone the protagonist loved died and you find out who and how through flashbacks revealing a hidden love story between her and someone forbidden. [s]

Plllleeeeeaaaaassssseeeee help, so it opens on a girl who is grieving for her dead boyfriend in the present. Then in flashbacks you realise she was falling in love with his brother/best friend in secret. Her boyfriend was moody and aggressive and she didn't know how to break it off, and the other guy didn't know how to help her either. You aren't sure which boy died for a while. Then you find out that the boyfriend died when he found out about her loving the other guy and they feel guilty. I think he fell in a river or something there was definitely a wooded area.
I think it was set in the south (texas etc) they spent a lot of time at like a state fair and the boys were very traditionally masculine and strong.

i know this!!!
It had a red cover and the older brother was good with birds, and she doesnt tell the reader her real name until the brothers find out that they like the same girl. her name is alice.
the tiltle had the word ketchup in it. i know that. it was my friends book, i'll check with her and tell you :)
